I initiated divorce with my wife twice last year and both times I walked it back, due to her desire to work on things in a new way. We've been seeing a therapist. We are both making efforts to commit to date nights, have regular sex, and to get away for a night or two once a quarter. Two young kids.

I'm just constantly aware of how unnatural our relationship feels, how it lacks chemistry, flirtation, humor, affection. Sex is awkward. It just feels like hard work all the time. Everything is forced.

And then I compare it mentally to a past relationship where it was the opposite, a person that I only broke up with because of timing.

I can't help but think that I only have one life to live and that I should get eventually divorced to experience a vibrant relationship again. I also love the idea of never living with a romantic partner again.

But then I wonder, am I just naive about human nature, and unaware that all long-term monogamous relationships become boring and hard?
