Am I going too fast into mediation?

Wife of 27 years dropped the separation/divorce bomb this past Thanksgiving.

Kept things under wraps through the holidays to spare the kids (18F/18M/16M).

Broke the news to kids and others mid-January that wife was moving out Feb 1.

Separation was going okay, but red flags about a possible relationship with her boss started popping up.

More flags popped up and I confronted her March 15th.

She initially admitted it was an emotional affair & then did a U-turn to "really good friends"...than no one at her work can know about.

Kids were brought into middle by her and there was some nastiness that devolved from there.

I'm on my twins senior spring break solo with them until Sunday. Then, things start moving fast.

Mediation starts next Friday.

Lawyer thinks main pain point may be spousal maintenance.

***Should I be trying to slow the process in order to let emotions lower?

PS- we were in low-conflict marriage and could have been friendly post-divorce if she hadn't stepped out as we agreed during initial separation "rules".

Sage guidance appreciated!
