My parents are having to put their dog down this morning. My stbxw had the kids yesterday and I told them they might want to say goodbye to their dog who they’ve known for the last 12 years. My parents treated my stbxw like a daughter. They were there for her through thick and thin. Even at the divorce process, they did not cut off contact with her, but attempted to help her with things because they still love her even though they disagreed with what she was doing. My stbxw took my kids to my parents house yesterday, but sat outside in the car instead of going in and giving her condolences or being there with the kids as they said goodbye. Do you know why? Because my mom said something the other day that pissed her off. She couldn’t put her anger aside for five minutes. This is because she has always been an incredibly selfish person who doesn’t care about anybody but herself. I am convinced she took the kids there only because of how it might reflect on her in the future. And after that display yesterday, I cannot wait to be free of this woman. It’s time to acknowledge who the person you thought you loved really was all along. I grieved so hard at the beginning of this process. But now I realized I was grieving over a person that never really existed. A person that never loved me and that was always looking out for number one. The only reason I would do it over again is because I have two wonderful kids. Outside of that, I have absolutely no plans of ever having any contact with her except what is necessary. She burned every potential bridge she may have had with me yesterday. I’m not saying that I won’t reach a point where I forgive her. That is the goal. But it’s difficult to tolerate the way she just treated my parents after everything they’ve done for her for almost 2 decades.
