Hook-up means sex to me. A man who is granted your body, or the possibility of using it, for the first time should be celebrating and thankful, not analyzing you like you are a used vehicle with an odometer.

The only guy who ever asked me this turned out to be a total creep. It escalated from there. Turns out, he didn't just want to know a "body count." He wanted to know intimate details of what sex was like with my previous partner(s), how many times total would I estimate I had ever had sex in my life, how would I rank my previous partner(s) based on things like anatomy, performance, etc. It was incredibly uncomfortable and intrusive. I refused to indulge his interrogation and he ended up manically pacing back and forth, declaring that he needed to know these things. WITAF?

This was just one experience. But, my advice would be that gentlemen (HVMs) don't ask these sort of questions.

I could've sworn there was a whole article in the handbook about it, but it must be buried in one of the articles. That said, read the handbook. NEVER tell a man your N-count, and if he even asks that's red flag.

I’d say something like “I thought you had more confidence than that.” Or “I didn’t realize you were this insecure.” Because, to me, that’s the big issue when it comes to asking for that info.

Yes.

The only men that bothered to ask were judgmental or insecure. One guy I dated asked me after our first kiss. He was a muslim but I thought he was progressive until that point. The other guy was 8 years younger than me and was insecure.

Whatever answer you give will be the ‘wrong’ answer and he will use it against you. Best to not say in my experience.
