This made me think about the women out there for whom a similar comment COULD help. Granted being in an abusive relationship is a mindf*ck and can be so hard to get out of, but you never know when saying something could make a difference.

Poor Gabby. Just 22. Had been with her abuser since they were teens. She was too inexperienced and dug in too deep with him to know better. He might have been her first serious, long-term relationship if she got engaged that young. Sometimes, it takes experience to learn, and she never got the chance because the scrote killed her or left her to die rather than cheat or dump her. She was probably gaslit by his family as well when they lived together.

I'm seeing so many scrotes in the comments sections of the Gabby Petito case on social media saying that she was "the abusive one" and she was "mentally ill" and pickmes saying that MeNz gEt AbUsEd ToOoOo. Those comments further solidifies my belief that most men are trash and there's always a willing army of pickmes to rush to the defense of abusive scrotes.

I'm betting that she was either trying to break up with him, or that he's been needling her for weeks up until that point and she was defending herself. Many women get called "abusers" and "mentally ill" for setting basic boundaries and demanding basic human decency and bare minimum respect from their partners.

I just know deep down that her bald scrote ended her life. The writing is on the walls. "Camping accidents" and "hiking accidents" are on the rise because of the amount of plausible deniability surrounding these situations. Cops are weaponizing incompetence when women go missing or turn up deceased when it obvious that they were ended at the hands of scrotes. I hope justice is found for her.

the guilt this poor ranger is probably dealing with. all we can do is offer support and a calm, rational place for discussing their abusive relationships, but it’s so hard to see another woman fall victim to her shitty abusive boyfriend.

My husband and I were vacationing in the exact spots a week before these two. The idea of traveling there with someone I didn't trust implicitly or was afraid would leave me somewhere is a terrifying prospect. Just leaving anyone in the middle of nowhere out there is unthinkable to me. It's a gun to their head, if he didn't kill her outright.

Frankly, given what happened it would have been hard for Gabby to have broken up with this guy without him killing her. I think the only way out would have been to literally wait until he was out of the van for something else and driven off without him which would have taken foresight into how violent he was and a degree of self-preserving callousness not many women could likely muster given this was a man she once loved.

The more I find out about it, the more we should treat abusive situations more like a mental health crisis in which the victims are not mentally capable of decisions that are beneficial for their health. Actual removal of both parties is necessary in addition with examination by a PsyD. So many women each year are harmed and killed by their male partners. I'm so heartbroken over everything.

Oh lawd. What if Gabby absorbed the words of this kindly Park Ranger. Thought about it for a few days and started to see things clearly and used terms like "toxic relationship" to Brians face and "maybe we should break up"

That would have sent him over the edge.

Not blaming the park ranger for anything. From Gabby's pov, she had an older woman in authority giving her expert advice. Gabby probably was touched by how incisive her wisdom was.

I am just speculating.
