I was dating someone for 8 years. And I’ve always wanted to do something for Valentine’s Day, but it never really happened. Every single Valentine’s Day we had a fight, because he just didn’t believe in it. It didn’t matter that it was important to me. He did make it a point to send his mom a card though.

Anyway, I dumped him today, and I feel good.

I remember being in 6th grade, ya know when ya got the little puppy loves going on, and Valentine's day was right around the corner and my little boyfriend at the time got me mamba candy (he bought five in total just to get five packs of the raspberry, that was my favorite), a stuffed black Kitty with a bracelet he made as a collar, and he got his dad to help him order flowers to be delivered to the class.

I was so mind blown that someone saved up their allowance and spent it on me for a holiday and honestly I keep that day in mind when it comes to valentines day, if a 6th grader could do all of that for me when I was in 6th grade I don't understand men's excuses for not even writing a cute handmade card.

I got my flowers at work today.. he said.. I know you aren’t fond of V-day so we’ll celebrate the week.. he also knew I was off on Friday and going out of town for the weekend and I’d want to enjoy the flowers.. also, what he related to the person via phone to put on the card was beautiful.. I’ve waited 47 years to find this HVM!!

On a related note, a large amount of money spent doesn’t directly correlate to a large amount of effort put in. I want something that he obviously put time/preparation into because that shows value. If he could have picked it up at the grocery store any old time, it’s a no from me.

Last year, the man I was briefly dating made day of plans for Vday and brought me a gas station rose and chocolates. I already wasn’t impressed before this. He thought he was entitled to my attention due to his effort but he didn’t get any affection from me that night. Dumped him a week later.

I was dating a guy for four years, told him repeatedly let’s do something for valentines this year.

I bought him a bunch of thoughtful vday gifts in addition to a valentine themed dinner . When I gave these to him he looked at me and just said ‘oh, I didn’t think you were serious when you said we were going to do vday gifts.’

I’m with my new partner for six years now and every year he gets me red roses or some sort of fancy bouquet with a stuffy. Breaking up with my x to be with someone that values me was def a journey , but I’ve never been happier 💓
