I heard about a case where a man admitted to shooting his wife, but was let off without a sentence because he shot her after he came home to see her in bed with another man (so i guess the judge thought she deserved to be murdered?) The american legal system is the worst.

I... I feel like laughing and crying at the same time out of sheer ridiculousness. What the actual hell? “Oh he only beat her til she BLED, there’s no way he would have killed her!!!” That jury needs to take their clown makeup off and rethink their lives. I’m so pissed hearing about this.

I have to wonder, was the jury made up of mainly males? I know nothing about the process and whether or not they select equal males and women.

And men say women get away easier, clearly domestic abuse/murder cases mostly benefit men because we still live in a patriarchy. This case makes mer so angry, so he didn't even get charged for abuse even if they say the blood is from abuse? And who do they think murdered her? Most women are murdered by their partners.

If you ever want to know how fucked up our legal system is in the U.S. just look at the stats on Judges and Prosecutors.

"As of August 2019, 80 percent of all the sitting judges on the federal bench were white and 73 percent were male. Together, white males comprise nearly 60 percent of all judges currently sitting on the federal bench."

I read that out of 2300 US prosecutors ~80% are male, and 95% are white with about 79% being white males.

PoC and women have the worst outcomes for a reason. There is very little representation, and even when you have women and PoC sitting as judges or prosecuting, they are still working within a racist, patriarchal system that harms us.

I had a friend who did jury duty on a rape case.

She said that man was guilty - it was obvious. But she was pressured by other men on the jury to flip her "Guilty" to "Not Guilty". They said things like " This trial has dragged along for too long - I want to get back to my real life". She would experience all the typical scrote, pressure tactics to. Eventually they wore her - and her mental health - down to the point where she just had to flip her verdict. And, yes, other women pressured her to flip her verdict too.

The case was of a woman who met a fwb in a park for sex. He then raped her anally. He was on trial of that. Yes, you don't meet men in parks for sex - but this girl was in her 20s and saturated with "cool girl" "pick me" culture. Regardless, she did not consent to anal sex.

So all the men were immediately like "Well she is a whore because she met him in a park for sex" and the women on the jury were like "Ugh stupid slut should have know better"

My friend was shattered that she had to flip her verdict. She felt so much guilt that this rapist was getting away with it. She felt she had let down the sisterhood. But she had to protect her mental health as she started suffering.

She is still racked with guilt to this day. She quit her job and is re-training as a yoga teacher to heal her trauma. She says - perhaps through my yoga teaching I can help other women find peace and make up for what I did to that woman in the rape case."

Idk how some lawyers live with themselves. Like idc what job I have I will always stick to my morals even if that means I’ll get fired. I can NEVER do something shitty like this to another human being.

The other day I listened to a true crime podcast episode about a guy who drove his two or three (I don't recall) sons into a dam on father's day to get back at his ex wife. One of the children was a baby. I was floored.

I'm pretty sure this is a "cultural misogyny" post, because this guy did more than just have a crappy attitude - he full-on murdered her, and got away with it because who cares.
