Has anyone watched Married At First Sight? It's basically the pairing of LVM with women who need therapy. The latest season has truly broken one of the cast members, Paige. This show is dangerous.

Oh! I have an acquaintance who was on that show. She had a terrible experience, they guy was awful and everything about the show was designed to keep her with him. None of it was surprising, it’s all stuff we talk about here. She would call him out on bad behavior and the show would council her to lower her boundaries but not address his behavior. While on the show she was isolated and not allowed to talk to family or friends at all. She could speak with the show counselors and staff. So he would act low value, the show would push her to excuse it, and she wasn’t allowed to reach out to her real support system.

I stopped watching a few seasons ago. At first, it seemed legitimate, but it has slowly allowed for higher and higher rates of more and more broken NVM to abuse already hurting women in various ways.

I hate MAFS because the marriage “counsellors” always support the asshole. For example, pressuring the woman to stay and communicate rather than run for the hills for her own well-being.

The Australian version was a disaster that I couldn't stop watching.

The most memorable was Heidi being paired up with manchild Mike who told her he wasn't her therapist when she was telling him about her childhood and how she went through foster care. It was their honeymoon and they were isolated at a beach trying to get to know each other. I've never witnessed such an emotionally stunted 40-year-old man. He couldn't understand how cold and wrong he was and kept talking about how BORED he was when she was sharing pieces of herself.

I watched a bit of it (I don’t know which season) out of morbid curiosity but had to stop because one of the guys was verbally/emotionally abusive and manipulating to the women he married and it was giving me anxiety that no one was saying anything and the “marriage experts” were telling her to communicate. One of the other couples on that season had a “pro” (but not really) basketball player who was a textbook narc/sociopath married to this poor girl who just kept crying about “what was she doing wrong” and they kept giving him pass after pass too. It was painful

I had the misfortune of seeing some of it while in a waiting room. The beautiful, classy, polished women were doing all the packing for a holiday. The men were standing around like useless scrotes giving orders. "supervising" the work. Not offering to take her suitcases. Or mocking that they were taking so many clothes/make-up cases. Meanwhile they looked like shit in jean shorts and ratty t-shirts.

They arrive at the vacation house and immediately start relaxing, drinking beers, fucking around, bro-ing out with each other, playing pool, roughhousing like toddlers while the women are unpacking and checking the food situation.

It was like watching single mothers on vacay with their children. So painful. The women were tense and unhappy already.

Totally agree and good assessment. I can't watch the show anymore. It doesnt seem to be people with healthy dynamics. Then again. Would it make for as they say 'good tv' if they were?

never watched it but saw adverts on netflix, initially I thought it was a cute concept. After thinking about it however, I was highly suspicious of the concept. How do you marry them off so quickly? what is this based on? seems like a recipe for disaster.

This show makes me cringe.

I noticed most of the time the best way to gauge if the relationship will work is if the woman is more attractive than the man. It’s pretty telling actually. Many of the women have the ability to develop feelings, but if the man isn’t interested “at first sight” the relationship is doomed for disaster.

Damn I didn't know this. I never watched this, I only ever heard about this show because it was in one of the assigned articles I had to read for my high school English course. I specifically remember the article going in depth on how well the show's production crew would "vet" to find suitable contestants. They had to surpass a survey and a few interviews. They said they judged on how interesting the people are and also on how appropriate this show is for them. A history of mental illness was a minus/would deny them from the show, but it seems like they threw that rule out of the window then...

I did watch the latest season. Briana really is too good for Vincent. It’s a dangerous mix when the guy is not accomplished/educated and the woman is beautiful/well-earning/educated.

I used to think their intentions were good in the earlier seasons, but as it went along it became all about the drama. And the "experts" have been doing so little to step in. Your radar would have to be that of a 4-year-old to let Chris get past the first interview. Most of the guys on that show are a nightmare 🥴

I watched the Australian version, they glorified an emotionally abusive relationship between Bruce and Melissa and there was even a petition against the show to intervene but nothing happened...it was sick, awful to watch. The men are just trash on that show.
