And this is why older creeps go after underage girls. They don't ever want them reaching the point of self-actualization. If you've heard of Maslow's hierarchy of needs, they don't ever want a woman who's past the bottom tier or two, let alone have the top of the pyramid. This is why they say that conventionally attractive women who know damn well they're attractive are a turn off. Don't you just love it when men say they're attracted to a confidant woman, then turned around to try to destroy her confidence? Guess they're looking for some sick kind of challenge.

I never realised how celebrated self-esteem issues are in young women until recently.

A good example is What Makes You Beautiful - One Direction. A song aimed at teenagers. I thought it was a beautiful song until someone pointed out the lyrics.

LVM really had to pull some Jedi mind tricks to get society to believe their approval means something. We all know now that being locked down by a dude like this means insecurity and muling veiled as a respectable relationship, and yet there are still women out there that think it’s a prize and men who think it’s the greatest compliment to be told he’d “wife you up”.
