See my ex would do the door opening and walking thing but in a way that inconvenienced me. He once got pissed at me that I opened a door and walked through it then held it open for him and his father who were walking behind me. He told me I made him look stupid in front of his dad because I didn't, I dunno, dodge back around them and let them go first so they could go first or something?? It wasn't about being chivalrous, it was about showing off to other men.

I don't get why this is getting positive attention. Why don't we teach little girls about self worth and the importance of being independent and self-sufficient instead of focusing on who they date before they're old enough to understand relationships/dating.

If he wants to teach about dating, he should be teaching a girl to look for a partner thats empathetic, considerate, and compassionate. Jerks open doors and pay for dates all the time.

Also exploiting your kid for internet points? Not great.

I know a lot of women on fds are firm believers in the idea that a man should do all of these things, but to me these very shallow performative acts of paternalistic chivalry are merely infantilizing and insulting to my ability and intelligence as a woman. Low value men perform chivalry all the time, and it doesn’t make them high value, and plenty of high value men aren’t really about performative chivalry, though of course they are generous and thoughtful, and would protect any woman who genuinely needed protection in an emergency situation. I just don’t think this is a step in the right direction; it is much more akin to paternalistic social rules of the 50’s that infantilized women and kept a certain class of women locked in their “princess” role.

It’s a nice sentiment but I can’t help to think he’s the type to call out scrotes when he is one himself. As in he doesn’t set this example by treating his wife well that’s why he has to explicitly tell his daughter what to expect. Bet. But that’s just the cynic in me 🤷‍♀️

I see a lot of negative comments about this post, and I want to comment to that.

I was raised on Disney Princess films, and honestly I don't blame my parents because that's what was available at the time.

By the time I was in preschool, I was dead-set on getting married and having babies. There was a boy at my preschool I fell desperately in love with, and would do anything to assure we would get married in the future. So this is like before 4-years-old. And to be honest, I don't really remember this; but there are stories my parents share from this time.

When I see this video, I see a father explaining to his daughter, that if she goes on a date with a guy (which is a concept she is clearly familiar with and can expect to do in her near future, which is age appropriate), if he cannot:

1) walk on the outside of the street for her; AND 2) come to the door when he visits her; AND 3) open the car door for her; AND 4) pay for her on the date without question

--if he doesn't do these FOUR THINGS as the BARE MINIMUM for her--he is a fucking asshole.

I would agree with this 1000%. I think this is accurate. Regardless of what parents teach their children, they will hear things from their peers, or ingest content from other media.

I know now (in my 30s) that my views around love and romance and what relationship roles were "supposed to be like" were primarily based on movies and internet and media. Media in which the woman sacrificed everything in order to prove her love, and then she was rewarded for it.

So when I see this video, based on my life-story Pre-FDS and Post-FDS, this is what I see:

I see a man explaining to his daughter (who will have seen and will undoubtedly now have ideas about romance/love/relationships, and the importance of those things) what she should expect as the bare minimum.

So, real quick, think about the movies that YOU have seen. Think about the internet media--TikToks, YouTube, whatever the hell--that YOU have seen--throughout your various ages of life. Because if YOU have seen it (all that depraved Red Pill and Incel shit that HAS NO PAYWALL), a young girl her age has also seen these things, along with whatever TV shows and movie media is out there now, which we ALL know is generally anti-FDS.

So I see a father explaining to his daughter--who is clearly old enough (based on TV/media/internet access) to ingest content around romance/relationships/women's roles--I see him explaining to her the bare fucking minimum that she should expect from a boy. And to be totally fucking honest, his explanations probably exactly and completely contradict whatever is the newest appropriate-for-her-age story or show that is being portrayed in movies/on TV/in the internet/in general media. (Men are so silly and stupid and generally incompetent, but look, if you as the women sacrifice *everything** for them, they will magically notice it and love you for who you are as a person, forever, and also they will be secretly wealthy and therefore will be able to give you a good and easy life with lots of flowers and extravagant vacations and you will be HAPPILY EVER AFTER, I swear it.)

I was obsessed with love and boys before kindergarten. Do you think my parents telling my Disney-Princess-Obsessed mind to "just be a kid" would have changed my perspective? Of course not. All the Disney Princesses forcibly went their own way, rebelling against their parents: - Jasmine--her father was hypnotized at the time but she didn't know it, so she still stood up to him. - Belle--sacrificed herself so her father could live, subjecting herself to the control of the Beast. - Aurora--was so in love with this random guy in the forest but was cruelly prevented from seeing him, and as it turns out, he saved her life ANYWAY and so happens he was her true love all along. - Cinderella--goes against her Evil Step Mother and Step Sisters by facing the world all on her own. - Snow White--runs away from her Evil Step Mother who wants her dead and accepts a sedated first-kiss from a prince she has never met as her true love (because it's destiny, right? we have no control over our Soul Mate). - Ariel--falls in love with a statue and agreeably accepts muteness in order to silently fawn over her True Love (a random ass man she has literally never met or had a conversation with) and audition to win his heart, etc.

All of these women were rewarded in the end, and allegedly wound up with their One True Love based on their behaviors of 1) not listening to their loved ones; and/or 2) self-sacrificing EVERYTHING.

So yes. We should be telling women as early as we fucking can. Here are four barest fucking minimum things that some bullshit worthless scrote of a man should be doing for you, for the barest fucking reward of your attention. And as she gets older, add to the list.

You know for a fact that she's hearing this shit from her friends at school, from the nasty chaoticness that is The Internet, and from literally. every. single. movie. and TV show. Ever.

Young girls don't have the privilege of "just being kids" for a while. We just don't, and believing that witholding information they actually have access to, if not force-fed to them, is going to accomplish this, is being naive.

Tell your daughters. This is the barest fucking minimum.

And, as they get older,

RAISE THE FUCK out of that barest fucking minimum.
