Won't hear them talking about BDSM porn where girls are learning to get beaten during sex. But we got to talk about a song where a woman talks about how much she loves sex as the bad message? Lol they're so pissed at the idea sex isn't just for them. Bet they're the kind of guys who never give their partner an orgasm or even the ones who get turned off when she enjoys the sex.

Men rap about rape (aka Rick Ross, The Weeknd). A woman's pleasure is only used as a bragging tool to gain approval from other men.
Cardi B is seen as a threat because she raps about how she wants sex instead of pleasing a man. Granted, her songs are still pickme, but when I watched Meghan Thee Stallion and Cardi B compare themselves to Beyonce, it was the classy vs ratchet hierarchy which is inherently misogynist.

As Madonna put it, you can be sexy but you cant own your sexuality according to men

This. Men get mad when women exist in films as women rather than sex objects, I saw it n another FDS post about Birds of Prey. And it’s true. When women own their sexuality and flaunt it, they’re slutty or some nonsense. But it’s sooooo hot when their nudes get leaked??
I like the song, I am not a fan of too much vulgarity but I’m not going to go on some crusade because it’s not my taste. It’s the issue with choice feminism.
Like, on the one hand I as a woman feel that women should be allowed to do whatever they want, but certain choices still cater to men in all depraved ways which sets everyone back. And famous artists putting out vulgar videos and songs aren’t going to affect the women who have no choice but to put out such stuff like sex workers etc. So it’s not one of those arguments where I say they shouldn’t be doing those things because there are women who have no choice, like celebrities putting these things out there don’t affect those women who have no choice. I think that such things shouldn’t be displayed solely because it caters to male depravity. It’s not like a woman cleverly using her charm and looks to succeed in this patriarchal world because songs like WAP don’t bring any benefits for women.
But there’s definitely hypocrisy when male artists have even more debauched songs and videos out there.
[–]sleepykittn 51 points52 points53 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Absolutely, female artists dont have 100% creative control most of the time and the male gaze sells :/ but they can sing whatever they write and no one has to listen if its not their taste.
But sure let snoop dogg base his career on objectifying women.. thats fine /s

Have you seen the interview where they ask him about his opinion on WAP? He’s so hypocritical talking about “women need to keep that sacred part of themselves out of public view”

she's not "acting right for a woman"
This is Partition all over again - old white conservatives wringing their hands about how "filthy" this song about married women having baby-making sex. They've been telling us for centuries that that's the only acceptable kind of sex to have, and yet when a WOC sings about it, or god forbid, enjoying it, it becomes "filth."

My ex knew about the song and thought that it was no big deal, then quickly changed his mind when he discovered that it was sung by women! Apparently it’s fine for men to sing about women’s bodies, but not for them to sing about their own. I don’t love the song, but it’s hardly the worst thing out there!

I have something to say about Cardi B. People who criticize her usually knock her down for the way she talks, or her grammar, and just generally call her stupid. I want to ask them: whose fault is that? Whose fault is it that the school district she grew up with was defunded? Whose fault is it that the level of education in this country is so bad for so many? I just can't stand it when bullies give someone a problem, and then bully them for having that problem that they created. America has so thoroughly failed so many people, and if they don't like that Cardi B is world famous, and showing people around the world the reality of the American educational system, and how cruelly we treat our poor, they need to address that specifically. It's just so unfair to knock down Cardi for her background, when our unequal system is the cause of her not being better-educated.
Every time I read some gross comment about Cardi from a man making fun of her intellect or calling her a &*%$# it makes me lose respect for men.
I didn't hear any men complaining when underaged Britney Spears was being exploited?

She speaks two languages and she’s a self- made millionaire. She may be uneducated, but she’s not stupid.
I may not agree with what she does, but I can’t say that she is stupid.
[–]queenagaveFDS Newbie 18 points19 points20 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
She's also very educated politically and encouraged others to learn and vote etc.
[–]techwriter0001FDS Newbie 24 points25 points26 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
To me, her manner of speaking is part of her charm. Her unique elocution is a breath of fresh air.
In today’s version of capitalistic society, charisma and guts (both of which Cardi has an extraordinary amount of) are of higher value than education or “intellect.”
I’m educated but I’m much, much poorer than she is. Who is smarter by capitalistic standards? Definitely Cardi.
That said, I do see your point.

She is literally describing everything men like to do, what they jerk off to in porn, and saying she does it well. The ONLY reason the song is getting mainstream hate is because she says she enjoys it too, that she consents. No one wants the porn silenced, no one wants to stop having the sex she's talking about - they just want her to stop talking about it.
LibFems then interpret this as silencing their sexuality and double down on "I wanna gag, I wanna choke".
There is no equivalent anthem for vanilla relationships. For commitment and respect and skilled lovers giving us multiple clitoral orgasms on our terms. For truly taking on their share of household maintenance, for going to therapy before they even meet us, for raw ass love. Please. That shit's not cool, not sexy, doesn't sell. This isn't taking back our sexuality, it's not empowering, it's pandering to the male gaze.
She's wet. She screams. She never comes in the song ladies. She 👏 never 👏 comes 👏

Holy shit boo, you are my heroine for the day!!! Omg, this so amazing, love your initiative and creativity! My favorite parts:
"He said I need to twerk like those girls he's got no chance with/when I twerk on his dick and he can't even time himself with it"
"guess I'm medically confused from the lack of foreplay"
"How many queens out there don't need to rev the engine/sorry bitch can't give you a medallion"
🔥🔥🔥
I would LOVE to see more of these from our fellow users!

yeah, i hate the song, it's like the kinkmeisha anthem, but the hypocrisy is just 💀💀💀
[–]_differentmentality_ 63 points64 points65 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
if a male rapper had made this song word for word (only changing lyrics where needed) they wouldn’t have given it a second thought 🤡💀
[–]Lavender_flowFDS Apprentice 25 points26 points27 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I agree completely, I hate the song, but I also feel the reason why all these fucking scrotes are so triggered by it, is because she owns her own sexuality. They do not want women to enjoy sex, that is crude and vulgar. But wanking their crusty dongs to porn all day is healthy and normal.

I have such mixed feelings about WAP.
On one hand, it's a catchy song and the raunchiness isn't anything new. I listened to Lil' Kim's "How Many Licks" when I was a preteen (and I really shouldn't have but oh well). It's not a feminist anthem, but there is something to be said about how women are singing about cunnilingus and enjoying sex. Plenty of male singers and rappers talk about sex, blow jobs, their dicks, and everything nasty you can think of. The expectation for women to be good role models is stronger than it is for men; no one worried about the behavior of little boys because of, let's say, Snoop Dogg or 50 Cent, back in the day.
On the other hand, I understand why feminists are critical of the song and its performance. Speaking for myself, I was disappointed by the music video and the Grammys' choreography. I thought it would've been bolder if Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion were surrounded by a bunch of hot men ready to serve and please them. I find it interesting how even when women are focused on sexual empowerment, they still objectify themselves instead of men. The lyrics of WAP also focus on male-centered sexual acts, such as deepthroating, BDSM, etc.
It's complicated. I don't think Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion are "ruining" society or anything like that because of one raunchy song, but the over-sexualization of women in the media, even when women participate in it, is exhausting. Knowing female artists have to sexualize themselves to be successful and popular makes me realize objectification isn't likely to go away any time soon, and probably never will because of how lucrative it is.
I agree, though, that WAP is nowhere near to the misogynistic levels of some of the things men sing and rap about. I'm showing my age here, but I still remember Eminem's song "Kim", where he describes abusing his then-wife...
[–][deleted] 18 points19 points20 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I think Cardi B has done the best she can given her life circumstances. She never said she was a role model but has clawed her way out of poverty turning the tables on those who have judged her all her life.
She’s above all a business woman and so far her product is selling(Probably consumed in secret by her loudest critics). Whether you like the song or not her ultimate goal was to make money just like men have been, monetizing the female body since the beginning of time.
[–]fdssavedmylifeFDS Newbie 35 points36 points37 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
FYI, that song was also written by four men. One is billed above Cardi B and all four are billed above Megan. I love this song, I even learned the dance (lol), but it’s not my preferred female empowerment anthem.
[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Do you mean the dance from the music video or Brian Esperon's choreography? lol, the song is catchy, I watch Brian Esperon choreo when I run on the treadmill and his WAP dance is one of his best loll
[–]fdssavedmylifeFDS Newbie 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
hahaha I just googled him and it looks like his tutorial was what I used to learn the dance 😂 so yes, that one. Five people have seen the footage and that probably won’t change lol

I wouldn’t know, I refuse to listen to rap by men. Female rappers only. 💕
[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Same, there's so many good female rappers out there. Megan, Saweetie, City Girls, Cardi, Nicki, Stefflon Don, Dej Loaf. Why would I listen to Lil Wayne say "she can eat my dick, we'll call in breakfast in bed" or hear Drake's Truffle Butter about poop during anal sex, when I can listen to the aforementioned female rappers
[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
SaRoc is also one of my favorites (I am her and forever are my anthems!)
[–]fds_account58 5 points6 points7 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
YES YES YES. I don’t support WAP and I think Cardi B is hurting women with her antics, particularly black women who are already overly objectified, sexualized, and disrespected. But none of these conservative dudes ever mention any of that. They’re just mad a woman is talking about objectifying a man as well. Dead silence when all the other rappers NOT ONLY discussed graphic sex acts but also violence and objectification.
[–]Nice_Pass2393 26 points27 points28 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Cardi b is not an empowered female. She is a stripper helping to make old guys that own only fans rich. I don't like her because she is influencing young girls to strip, have of and get dangerous butt and breast implants
[–]my_curated_life 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
The premise is not that Cardi B is an empowered woman, it is that the outrage of WAP implies that there is a hypocritical double standard which women are subjected to but men are not. Also, why breast implants? No need to shame women for undergoing plastic surgery if it suits them. Their money, their business.
[–]Nice_Pass2393 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Because she is glorified for having plastic surgeryapp and they wont let women get famous anymore without them. Look at all of the famous female rappers. Also she got her fake butt illegally in a Brooklyn basement for $800. Something like ~1 woman a week dies from that procedure. Shes a pick me because she was in court for beating up a stripper that slept with her husband. Hes cheated multiple times and got other women pregnant yet she keeps taking him back. They wont give nicki Minaj a Grammy because she won't take that kind of shit from nobody
[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
It’s misogynoir.
[–]GiraffeLibrarianFDS Newbie 11 points12 points13 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Have never listened to it and don’t intend to. L I’ll probably get downvoted but oh well.
[–][deleted] 16 points17 points18 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I mean, enjoying your own objectification is also a product of libfems pandering to patriarchy so it’s all a mess tbh
