I’ve been lucky enough to have dated guys that called me on the phone, regularly and at length. It’s so much more intimate and relaxing. I’m kind of spoiled in that regard, because I’m just not impressed by texting.

Simply say “call me” when they try to make plans with you. I’ve found that the most simple, direct communication is the most effective.
Example:
What are you doing this weekend?
I’m not sure yet.
Do you want to go to dinner on Saturday night?
That sounds nice, why don’t you call me later this week.
end of the date
So do you want to see me again?
Yeah, call me.
Either he texts you, or he calls you.
If he texts you, you can say
“I thought I told you to call me ;)” or something playful like that, BUT, personally, if you ask for a call, you should get a call. It shows the man listens and takes direction.

I remember being the first to comment on a post from r/ relationships and the OP sounded young and inexperienced. If I recall correctly, he had managed to go on a date with this woman and somehow fucked up midway through. Said something he realized later could have been taken a different way. She politely rejected him after the date (forget by what means) and he was about to send a novel of a text telling her he would accept her decision, but he just wanted to explain what he meant by the possible misinterpretation. I think. It was so long I couldn’t even finish it. Which is what I told him (I felt sorry for him). I told him if he had to explain himself to her and apologize, he could just send the first two sentences of his novel, which did both. Then he could leave her alone unless she reached out to him after.

Oh boy. I tend to express myself better through writing than speaking - which is fine for a journal, story, or email to a loved one. Not so much when it comes to shitty men and I had the Epic Saga Text down to an art form.
If I was feeling horrible over a man (there have only been a couple I was serious about since I was married for over a decade) I thought if I just worded everything correctly, he would see the error of his ways and change his shitty behavior. I put so much time and effort into these eloquent Lord of the Rings trilogy text messages. I don’t know how it is with other phones, but you know how iPhones will collapse a long text and will open up to this word document type thing for the person reading it? Yeah, I practically invented those. Just these emotional outpourings, explicitly detailing why I was so hurt. Chapter-length texts asking for the bare minimum.
You know what it got me? JACK SHIT. Unless you count a whole lot of gaslighting, or changed behavior for a couple of days before going right back to the same old nonsense.
That post from a few days ago, the video where the woman says if you find yourself composing a text in the notes app, he ain’t the one, pretty much nailed it. If you have to text a detailed instruction manual on how to treat you properly, the man is no good and all you’re doing is wasting your energy.
These days if I’m talking to a man I’m interested in (which is rare), he gets three or four sentences tops - no matter the topic. Longer conversations are for in-person or phone calls.
(Also, another reason I used to like text so much was because I couldn’t be interrupted that way. Then I thought to myself, why in the hell am I having conversations with men who interrupt me?? These days, I cut that shit off as soon as it happens. “I wasn’t finished.” “You interrupted me.” If it continues, game over.)
