That's not a left / right thing. That's a human thing.
The right creates the same monsters, they just have different titles. Whether the yoke is made by a corporation or by the government doesn't matter to those who struggle under it.
[β]hill1205 6 points7 points8 points 6 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
There will always be a difference between influence and power. Power indicates force and/or authority. Which government has.
Corporations have influence over the wielding of that power.
Which brings us to corruption of government.
So there are actually only two problems here and both are flaws within government. They have the ability to use force as they see fit. And they can sell that power. That isnβt an inherent problem with the corporation.
[β]The_Best_01 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
This is something that socialists will never understand. At least commies are aware power leads to corruption.
[β]Blutarg 3 points4 points5 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
That's absolutely preposterous. Corporations have taken out hits on people, funded death squads--heck, the East India Company had its own army and navy.
[β]hill1205 5 points6 points7 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I didnβt say that people in corporations canβt commit crimes.
Of course your example of the East Indi Company proves my point and I thank you for it. All of the activities of this company was under the grant and control of the British government. All they way to the point that the βofficersβ and executives of this company received British title. This is an example of, actually the example of, mercantilism.
This is exactly what I am referring to when stating the force of government is for sale.
Iβm not trying to be mean but this is what they mean when they say a little education is a dangerous thing.
A company doesnβt have the power to force people into to purchase their goods or to be employed by their company.
Not without the force of government behind them. Such as with the East India Co.
[β]hajamieli 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago* (8 children) | Copy Link
The right creates the same monsters
Name one. Nazis, if you suggest those are "right", weren't "right" in anything but post-WW2 Soviet propaganda. They were socialists and allies of the Soviet Union against the capitalist west until they declared war on each other. Hitler even declared himself communist until he noticed it wasn't good for support, the populist he was. Antifa fought side-by-side with Hitler's SS troops against the Social Democratic Party's Iron Wall movement until they gained power. Communists of France sided with Hitler and didn't fight back when France was "Liberated". Hitler's people were educated by KGB and their decades longer experiments of death camps and mass descruction of people, and the Soviets continued sending people (including ones who survived Nazi campsu) to their own concentration camps long after WW2.
[β]The_Best_01 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

You mean the same way China is socialist against the capitalist west? Wait sorry, I mean "communism with Chinese characteristics".
[β]hajamieli 4 points5 points6 points 6 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Ah, the old tired "no real communism". Then you must mean the Rogue Khmer in Cambodia by Pol Pot was the real thing then. He was educated by the very Frankfurt school of communists in Europe, and cheered on by such communists and other leftists as you all over the world. Once news about the atrocities done by the book of contemporary communists came up, they were explained away as "capitalist propaganda" and once they no longer could be denied, they tried to forget it. So is that what you mean by real communism?
[β]The_Best_01 -3 points-2 points-1 points 6 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
No, I'm not saying "not real communism", but by definition the Khmer Rouge wasn't communist either due to having an authoritarian centralized power structure.
Also, I'm not a leftist but hey, keep assuming shit about me. People love judging people straight away, don't they?
[β]hajamieli 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Right, so in other words, communists are the most incompetent people ever. It's been tried dozens of times by now, and every time everyone fails to implement it. That, or it truly is impossible to implement. If so, why not try something new for once, such as Sauron's Orc things in Mordor. Seems more realistic, and the books are done by a more talented author as well.
[β]The_Best_01 -2 points-1 points0 points 6 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link
They're both incredibly competent, as shown by all those regimes, and incompetent since the actual definition is never realized. I would say it probably is impossible to implement.
Mordor seems like an interesting society, but I prefer this one, with all its faults.
[β]hajamieli 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
The last ringbearer is a nice fanfic describing how great the Mordor society of Orcs is, and how they had to live in fear of the crazy war-hawk Gandalf and his bloodthirsty elvish allies. It'd be a great example for the communists everywhere to follow and let's say make Sahara livable.

[β]hajamieli 5 points6 points7 points 6 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
I didn't say they are liberal. Saying communists were/are liberal is just as stupid. I said they were leftist. Left means collectivist; putting the collective ahead of the individuals, right means individualist; rights of the individual first. Liberal/conservative is another axis except maybe to some degree in American politics up to mid/late 2000s. The current leftist American politics are as far from liberal as feminism is from equality between genders.

It's also literally making the assumption that all men think the same way and have no individuality, making the assumption that men in power would not care about women or have their interests at heart(which is couldn't be further from the truth), and making the assumption that those men didn't get those positions through merit(also kind of dismissing the greater expectations placed on men to succeed).

Abortion is not a right, and despite the SC inventing privacy rights in the Penumbra of the Constitution that the NSA has never heard of, it has always been a states rights issue. And that's where it's being hashed out.

Contraceptives are related to health and should be covered by health insurance, a paid service. 14% of birth control users take them for medical reasons other than pregnancy prevention, again medical issues.
Why are you glazing over the fact that abortion rights are currently being fought against? Itβs a huge deal and it will hurt a lot of women (and children and men) if overturned. And why do you think it should be a stateβs right anyhow? Itβs a medical service that should be available to whoever needs it. And no I donβt think it should be a stateβs rights issue at all. Why do you get to choose what medical procedures are allowed in your state? Have you ever thought of the people born in those states who obviously had no choice in the matter and are kept systemically poor so they can never move, and canβt get an abortion in their state, and are thus even more kept in poverty? Contraceptives are related to health and should be covered by health insurance, a paid service.
If you really think so I suspect you'd at least be aware that male contraceptives are not covered by insurance at all.
Several years ago women across the nation were complaining that viagra was covered by insurance, they said it should not be covered and that woman's contraceptives should be covered instead. They said that ED was not an illness and having sex was a lifestyle choice for a man. Well guess what, if having sex is a lifestyle choice for a man, it is for women as well. They have the option of abstaining or engaging in non-reproductive methods of sex.
14% of birth control users take them for medical reasons other than pregnancy prevention, again medical issues.
Source?
Why are you glazing over the fact that abortion rights are currently being fought against?
I'm telling you that it is not a right, it's one SC decision and it can fall by congressional action or another SC decision. It's not properly a federal issue at all.
Itβs a huge deal and it will hurt a lot of women
Let women be on equal footing with men then. It's never a problem if a man is hurt.
And why do you think it should be a stateβs right anyhow?
It's not mentioned in the Constitution anywhere, and the Constitution also says...
Amendment X
The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.
Seems simple enough.
And no I donβt think it should be a stateβs rights issue at all.
Do you also think the sky should be purple?
Why do you get to choose what medical procedures are allowed in your state?
I don't believe any state is restricting medically indicated abortion, just elective abortion.
Have you ever thought of the people born in those states who obviously had no choice in the matter and are kept systemically poor so they can never move
It happens to men in all states and is not seen as a problem at all. Hell, it's not seen as a problem if the child he's being charged for is not even his.
It doesnβt effect you, why do you care?
You are sadly misinformed.
βMy premium will go to cover stuff that will help poor women, wahβ
You don't seem to know much about these things at all. Obamacare covers pretty much all woman's services, it does not mandate corresponding men's services at all.
https://www.statnews.com/2017/12/20/men-health-care-debate/
Why men donβt care about the health care debate
A clear provision in the ACA prohibits discrimination βon the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age, or disability.β But that doesnβt square with reality. Women and girls are covered, mostly for free, for a variety of preventive services, while men and boys are eligible for far fewer preventive services, some of which are also important for maintaining the good health of women and girls.
Is it any wonder that men have disengaged from discussions of health care? Hereβs a closer look.
Sexually transmitted infections
Under the ACA, non-pregnant women age 24 and younger, as well as older, high-risk women, can receive free screenings for chlamydia. And all sexually active women can receive free screenings for gonorrhea. Tests for detecting these diseases are equally effective in both sexes, but males arenβt eligible for free screenings. Since chlamydia and gonorrhea are both transmitted sexually, whatβs the point of screening only females?
According to the CDC, βWomen whose sex partners have not been appropriately treated are at high risk for re-infection.β Besides reducing the painful symptoms that sexually transmitted infections cause in boys and men, screening them could interrupt the cycle of infection. The same is true for oral human papillomavirus. Anti-HPV vaccines exist for both males and females, but females are more likely to get the vaccine. Males, as a result, are 3.6 to six times more likely to be infected with the virus (depending on the strain), which can cause genital warts and several types of cancer.
Annual visits for preventive care
The ACA provides for an excellent, comprehensive annual Well-Woman Visit at no cost. These visits, as defined by law, βinclude a full checkup, separate from any other visit for sickness or injury,β and βfocus on preventive care for women,β including shots (such as flu and pneumonia vaccines), education, counseling (diet, exercise, smoking cessation, etc.), and mental health screenings for depression and suicide risk.
No comparable βWell-Man Visitβ is provided, despite the well-documented fact that across all races and ethnicities, men live sicker, significantly shorter lives than women. Most premature deaths are avoidable through preventive care. And thereβs little doubt that effective mental health screening could reduce the horrifying statistic that males are four times more likely than females die by suicide.
To prevent premature deaths, boys and men must learn about their own health needs. But thatβs unlikely to happen unless the messages come in person from a health professional. Well-man visits would inform men of their health needs and encourage them to become actively engaged in their health. Theyβll also give providers the chance to catch problems while theyβre still treatable or curable. Prostate cancer screening
Under the ACA, breast cancer screening for women is provided βwithout charging a copayment or coinsurance,β even for women who havenβt met their deductibles. Screening for prostate cancer β which is the No. 1 cancer in men β isnβt covered at all. Why not?
The risk of developing prostate cancer is much higher for African-American men and veterans exposed to Agent Orange and other chemicals, and more than doubles with a family history of the disease. Routine screening for high-risk men can catch potential prostate cancer earlier, which can prompt earlier treatment (if necessary) and may increase the patientβs lifespan and quality of life.

14% use birth control exclusively for non pregnancy related health issues, and 58% use it for both BC and medical reasons, leaving only 42% using exclusively for pregnancy prevention. The pill does SO MUCH MORE for people than prevent pregnancies. Just like some people take cialis for blood pressure/etc. Also people got all worked up about the viagra thing a few years ago specifically to point out how absurd it was that viagra was covered but womenβs health issues werenβt. It was a reactionary complaint, to draw attention to the lack of womenβs coverage back then.
Sweet, letβs fight for menβs rights too. Youβre making it into some weird gender battle when itβs a class struggle for both sexes. You also seem to think the only fairness is both sexes getting the exact same dollar amounts of treatment, which is absurd because they need different care. We should be covering both. Also, men have historically gotten way more attention and study than women in medicine. Did you know that western medicine has mostly ignored women in terms of data and stats and studies until recent decades, and most women still get ignored by old male doctors? Ask actual women you know what their healthcare experiences have been like throughout their lives.
Iβm definitely not going through that point by point, but you misunderstand, Iβm pro all those things covered by insurance. Menβs wellness checkups, however you think they donβt exist (they do, theyβre called checkups), should also be covered. Menβs contraceptives are covered by my insuranceβobtained through the healthcare marketplace. Iβve also gotten free sti/std screening my entire life through services like planned parenthood and other free city health services. Anyone can get free screenings in nyc and all over the northeast, itβs a dope service. Iβve also had a prostate cancer screening covered by this insurance, so Iβm not sure why you think those arenβt covered.
I also didnβt say abortion was a right. I just said itβs availability helps lift women out of poverty, so it shouldnβt be limited (which also helps men! Gasp! Who do women have families with? Men! Just like lifting men up also lifts women up. We on the same damn team, quit throwing frags at your own team please)
Also βbut the constitutionβ is such a damned cop out response to βweβd like better rights please.β Itβs got good shit, but come on dude, 244 years have passed, society is different in ways that itβs originators couldnβt have even imagined (like healthcare), which is why we amend it to modern times. Iβm down to make amendments that make sure men are also granted needed services.
Yeah men have lots of problems that are unique to men and lots of problems that overlap with women. Healthcare issues are one of those that overlap, where both could be better.
Get out of here with your gender war and get on the team thatβs fighting to improve all lives already

I'm not even sure why contraception is an issue here, it is not being made illegal, it is still available to women who want it, and you yourself claim it's available from Planned Parenthood.
Regarding Hobby Lobby...
So not a single fucking thing is changed regarding availability and coverage of woman's BC, the ACA mandates it, the insurance companies just won't be able charge said companies in the premiums.
There is no issue here.
Also people got all worked up about the viagra thing a few years ago specifically to point out how absurd it was that viagra was covered but womenβs health issues werenβt.
Bullshit, they just hate men. I bet you think that everything should be provided for free to women (and only women) just like feminists.
Sweet, letβs fight for menβs rights too.
I see no sign that you know what the issues are, you're too busy virtue signaling that you are a feminist worried to death about woman's issues.
Youβre making it into some weird gender battle when itβs a class struggle for both sexes.
I've just been responding to the false-flag woman's issues you inventing to show how evil MRAs are.
Also, men have historically gotten way more attention and study than women in medicine.
Fuck off what that bullshit, all the dangerous trials were done on male prisoners to make sure the drugs would not kill or injure people who mattered and the issues of liability of a pregnant woman takes the drug and it creates birth defects remain to this day. The FDA was hailed as heroes because they were so inefficient that they had not yet approved thalidomide which caused so many birth defects in Europe.
Iβm definitely not going through that point by point
I don't think you have any valid points.
Who do women have families with? Men!
Not any more, 8-10% of families in the US and single mother and any man can be kicked out of the family with a casual lie, but his role as a provider will not change.
Also βbut the constitutionβ is such a damned cop out response to βweβd like better rights please.β
The constitution is the sole determinate of what is or is not a right. It's only a cop-out to the ignorant.
Have you read your post? You make some vague mumblings about also fighting for men's rights, as you do nothing but attack men's rights and defend women from things they are not even victims of.
You can't even support men's right's in r/mensrights, you seem to see defending men's rights as attacking women or starting a gender war or somesuch. But you have no such objections to arguing women's issues. Sexist much?
[β]Cutenesskink 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago* (14 children) | Copy Link
I didnβt attack menβs rights in any way and have only promoted rights for everyone. Iβm pro solving all those menβs issues you listed and you arenβt for solving any of womenβs issues. Letβs totally work on mental health, menβs isolation, depression, addiction, social expectations, forced gender norms, paternity rights, the draft, prison reform, and other issues that predominantly effect menβbut also stop trying to fuck over poor women please. We have the resources to work on all these problems.
I hope youre doing something about these problems other than being angry on a forum. You could be helping young men in big brother or scouts or helping with homeless youth counts (mostly boys) or volunteering with any sort of young menβs program. You clearly feel strongly about the tribulations of men and boys and thatβs dope, you could channel that energy awesomely Iβm sure.

OP: In the future, please use a more descriptive title. Had I caught this post earlier, I would have removed it. However, it has garnered enough participation, that removing it now would result in stifling that participation. Never-the-less, for the future, please note that we have a rule regarding titles that requires them to be informative rather than clickbait.

Got it π
[β]musteatbrainz23 points 6 years ago [recovered] (9 children) | Copy Link
What's the point of that rule if breaking it encouraged discussion. Far more engaging and pithy than "Here's a quote about "equality" masked as revenge."
[+]mensmod -23 points-22 points-21 points 6 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link
Clickbait and low effort/quality posts degrade the quality of a subreddit. We are encouraging people to improve the internet, not make it worse.
We (the mods) aren't really concerned with whether low intelligence, easily manipulatable people dislike the rule.

That was kinda uncalled for, but ok

[β]Ashybashy04 7 points8 points9 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I donβt see how him title degrades the quality of the subreddit but ok..
[β]austin101123 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
You don't know what the content is about until after it is posted and you can't search for it later. A title like "Equality, or revenge?" Would be more informative and could be searched for.
[+]mensmod -6 points-5 points-4 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Clickbait is used to manipulate people into viewing material that they might not otherwise care to look at simply by playing on their curiosity. "You won't believe what happened next!" or "This is horrible!" are examples of titles that don't explain what the content is in any way, but feeds into weak willed people who are basically vegging on the internet instead of on TV. We believe that this trend is bad for our society, and we don't want to see it on our subreddit.
It is a simple rule - provide a descriptive title for your post. How hard is that?
[β]NibblyPig 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Does reddit not allow mods to edit titles?
[β]mensmod 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[β]Svenskbtch 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I reject the narrative of historical oppression of women: gender roles were much more strict, but life was harsh for most people of both genders. Even a medieval king would prefer to be a poor American today for a range of reasons, starting with doubling his life expectancy.
But it is an interesting question to which extent we have an obligation to compensate for the travails of past generations. Most blacks are descendants of slaves that were brought here by force, and that is probably at least a small part of the explanation behind their current socioeconomic status. What is the right thing to do? What about Jews, the victims of one of the three most horrific crimes against humanity the world has seen (apart from Stalin, Mao)? They are socioeconomically far above the US and world average.
[β]Svenskbtch 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
In one meeting on gender equality, someone noted that our organisation had been very successful as 6 out of 8 directors are now female. I made the comment "Great. More equality", which I meant facetiously but was taken seriously.
A great example of this phenomenon is the Forums Gender Gap report, which evaluates gender equality based on economic representation, political representation, education, and health. The first two were pretty straightforward, but in the dimensions of education and health the team faced the "problem" that women outperformed men on most indicators. The solution was simple: count these areas as having a gender equality score of 1, rather than having "reverse" gender gaps cancel out gender gaps to the detriment of women.
Although I know this team struggled with these issues and realised the problem, I think this approach is pretty indicative: we simply struggle to see gender equality any other way. The mere thought of extending the logic to men, let alone to treat any systematic problem to the detriment of men as an issue worthy of attention, rubs not only feminists, but most of society, the wrong way.
The results ended up pretty bizarre, with political and economic gender equality in Afghanistan ending up in the low teens, and educational and health equality in the 90s (on a scale from one to 100).
[β]TracyMorganFreeman 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I've seen gender equality indices that included maternal mortality rate.
Those indices are largely designed to push pro woman policy, not equality.

I mean, its essentially just garbage. women do have a greater in group bias than men do. They know once women are in power, they'll stay there. Equity is not equality.
People who want everyone a fair go, regardless of any circumstances, race, religion, sex, orientation or class, those are the ones that really want equality.
