I can't see why anyone would justify circumcision after seeing this video. I had decided awhile back that I wouldn't want my son to be circumcised but thought that outlawing it was a little much. After seeing this and considering the real reasons for or against it, however, I don't think making it against the law is all that unreasonable.

As a Medical Professional working at a large hospital in Canada who performs circumcisions for parents who want them, I've seen so many of these it doesn't even register anymore.

The thing that bothered me the most wasn't the forcible restraint, the bleeding or the screaming. It was that parents actually chose to leave the room for the procedure. In my opinion, if you are going to radically change your son's sexual organ for aesthetic reasons (Labelled an aesthetic surgery in Canada, has to be paid out of pocket and not covered by our Socialist Health Insurance) they should be obligated to watch that change.

I'm uncircumcised as well, and always have a candid conversation with parents before I perform the procedure to make sure they are sure.

It's interesting to me that circumcision usually occurs at a much older age and the whole intent is that it's painful and scarring mentally and physically. It's an initiation into manhood ritual that was feminized and the women decided it should happen right at birth where the boy gets essentially nothing out of it except an altered penis.

After the time of Moses, the tradition of Jewish circumcision was altered from being performed at the stage of male puberty to that of the neonatal stage, typically being performed on the eighth day after birth. This was done to forcefully conform the male infant into the Jewish community, for circumcision was a distinct symbol of Jewish culture.

This is easily the most discouraging thread I've seen on MR, not because of my opinion on circumcision one way or the other but because of the visceral, hateful responses and the pride people seem to be taking in the refusal to understand the other side.

Can this please not be the way this subreddit reacts to issues more divisive or complicated than overt and explicit inequity? Infantile circumcision is a deep running and pretty complicated issue so can we treat the discussion like the intelligent, mature adults we are and not like angsty, naive children?

I, and my brother, born in the mid 60's, are both circumcised. Both of my parents are/were atheist. It was done at the recommendation of the doctor for "health reasons" (ironically, the doctor was probably a smoker.) I don't resent my parents for making that decision, I have absolutely no problem with it.

My son, also born to non-believers, is not circumcised. Progress.

Jesus. You guys are really trying too hard. It's circumcision. Lots of people have had it happen. You were a baby. Lots of bad things happen when you are baby, intentional or not. You fall, get sick, your parents abuse you or are negligent, or they aren't and have you circumcised and treat you well. The myriad of factors and variables that go into how you develop and what you become won't boil down to circumcision. Getting all bent out of shape over this is absurd. There are far more important things going on in this world than circumcision. Wars, wealth inequality, racism, intolerance, poverty, children dying of fucking starvation, girls and boy being sold into slavery.

So my dad decided to have my cut. IT'S NOT A BIG FUCKING DEAL. ITS NOT GOING TO CHANGE THE REST OF YOUR LIFE OR YOUR SON'S LIFE.

Kings, leaders over the centuries figured out when they circumsized people, (men or women) , they were unable to achieve mental healing during sex. Since they had no foreskin, they suffered from pre-mature ejaculation and were unable to heal themselves mentally. Thus they become broken, insecure & easy to manage people.

The men or women with foreskin in tact could have sex for longer and thus achieve the proper meditative state during sex to mentally heal themselves and create a stronger family bond with their partner.
