I have a uni degree and I'm still drowning in debt. One of my older friends dropped out of college, got picked up by a company and does fences. He works hard but probably earns more than me and goes on holiday to Spain/Greece for a month. Maybe I'd reap the benefits later but it's damn depressing. Can't afford a house, still had to work jobs that didn't require my degree and so on.

It shouldn't be cancel student loans because women have debt being the focal point of an argument.

I find the initiative to cancel student debt from the left bizarre. Why should working class people pay for the education of surgeons? I agree that there should be mechanisms in place for debt to be repaid based on income, something Milton Friedman advocated - but why in the world should we help people who have more than enough money to pay it off? Well, once the student debt is cancelled and tuition is free / affordable, it would lower the bar for entry for everyone. That would be good for everyone who were hesitant to go in fear of debt. If women make up the majority of collage graduates, that would probably mean proportionally more men would join the universities?

If they want to fund it by tax dollard then seats in the university will probably be a lot less.

But honestly college today is a complete ripoff. It was an investment 30-40 years ago, but now it's a luxury to attend college. Pretty hypocritical for me to say as I am also a university student, but it's not like there's any other way to get a teaching carreer in my country.

Everyone and their mother attends college today. Society is starting to feel the aftereffect.
