Hello!

I am a lady and have heard an enormous amount of hate from the feminist side of reddit about the MR subreddit or about mens rights in general.

This confuses me, as I used to think feminism was about the equality of gender so if a man wants to right for the rights he feels he deserves, then that is the same as a woman fighting for the rights she feels she deserves.

I read the article on the side of this sub-reddit that is "on the differences between feminism and the mens-rights movement." It claims we cannot find common ground.

What I want to know is, why not? If some feminists and mens rights activists CAN find some common ground we can go back ( if we ever were there) to finding equal rights for men and women. We don't want ANYONE raped, abused, or treated unfairly. At least I dont.

So men rights activists... do you think we can do that?

I am interested in all points, just know I am coming from a curious and compassionate place.

UPDATE: So here's what I have learned. Many MRA's feel that feminism is simply about spreading lies and decreasing the rights of men. While I agree that many feminists are on this boat, myself and many other feminists are not. I do feel I have been oppressed as a woman before. I.e told I didn't have the same potential to learn as a man, I am not as intelligent as a man, I should be valued simply for how I look and not for my accomplishments. I am an artist that practices and paints A LOT. It really hurts me that someone would want to throw away my discipline and hard-work in that area and say I lack value simply because I am not so physically attractive. That is only one way that I feel oppressed. There is nothing I wish I to do to put down men as a result of that. I simply want to feel free to talk to about that and what it has been like to grow up in a world where I felt my thoughts and ideas were not going to be as valued as a mans would be.

I feel like men face plenty of oppression, some that I have thought about, but did not know the official details or names of. i.e legal paternal surrender, and lack of due process. I really appreciate that people are out there discussing and fighting for these rights. It is something I can get behind.

I feel like I came here in the most peaceful way I could and I am pleased with the respectful and informative responses I go on here. I feel like some people here simply wanted to tell me to go away and hate all feminists without any discretion. The denial that women are oppressed in anyway is as ignorant as me saying that men face no oppression. (Yes that would be ignorant of me. Yes many feminist as ignorant and whiny as fuck, I will state again I AGREE WITH YOU ON THAT.) I spoke about my own personal experience with oppression above and I know my own personal experience is not bullshit.

Thank you again, those who wanted to respectfully discuss or debate with me. I hope one day we can have the rights we deserve. I am now going to frequent /r/ladymras
