My husband has primary custody of his two children from his first marriage and has since they were 4 and 7 years old (they're now 12 and 16). His ex-wife is an unstable mentally ill freakshow who couldn't (and didn't) provide a stable home for them.

I am always so proud of fathers who do the right thing and try to do the absolute best for their children.

May I ask what prompted you too take the week days and her the weekends? I would prefer to see my kid everyonce in a while on the weekends just so we could do something fun like a weekend trip or something. I would also prefer switching everyother week, I'd prefer 50/50 as long as the mother isn't some fucked up bitch... I mean I grew up with a dead beat dad, so I know exactly how much a good mother means....

Congrats op! It took me over a year, and thousands of dollars I didn't have in order to get full legal and physical custody of my son. Luckily for my son sake, she leaves us alone and he is doing great. Good luck to you and your son!

It's great that you got primary custody and all, but you've stated before in this thread that she's a great mother, so I think you should let her mom see her child more then the minimum amount required. What my parents did with me is essentially swapped weeks. I'd spend a week with my mom (including the weekend) and then a week with my dad. We'd alternate holidays. I quite liked that system (in fact, it was my idea).

You just gotta remember that your kid is going to love both her parents, and is going to want to spend time with both of them.

My ex-wife has every other weekend, it is pulling teeth to get her to take them while when she flakes I have to explain to 2 crying children (6 and 8) why thier Mama won't come see them.

Encourage them to see thier Mom, always error on the side of caution and righteousness.
