Ok, myself as much as the next MRA have all had run ins with "Patriarchy theory" a term often used as proof to shame men away from certain arguments. Claiming that men receive exclusive privilege in society and therefore are unable to objectively understand women's oppression.

After a very long and rather pleasant conversation with a friend of a friend who is a "Gender equity feminist" AKA for men and women's rights under the impression that feminism can fix men's rights issues too. I decided to read up more in depth in patriarchy theory.

After cringing at some of the more nasty implications at the start of said paper I started to realize a pattern. The theory in itself isn't really wrong. now hear me out! I'm not saying what some feminists are pushing as "This is why men are awful" is at all correct. just that the core theory isn't totally bogus as it encompasses mens negative stereotypes too.

But heres the kicker, They don't pay any attention to them! The framework within Patriarchy theory lines up pretty damn well with most men's rights issues Ive seen. The framework for showing how the system (feminists like to call Patriarchy) exploits men is right in there. Its just not garnered much if any attention in a movement driven by a desire to "Make women equal to men!"

I found this intensely interesting in the fact by studying up on feminist theory I found a nice neat skeleton for a Mens rights movement that was never taken advantage of. Its like they went through and broke down how society worked all the way along the line and then only gave the opinions/elaborated on the women's side of the fence.

I just thought id share as a point of interest, and a useful thought for MRA's with a mind of having proper discourse with non crazy feminists.

What is your experience with patriarchy theory? Do you think filling in the blanks could be a stepping stone to a better discourse between the movements?
