Man. I truly feel bad for that little boy. I knew a guy who told me that something like this happened to him. As a kid he was attracted to dolls and slept with this doll as a kid, he thought that the doll was his friend, and then one night while he was asleep his parents replaced it with a Dog doll. For over 25 years, he remembered that incident and thought that he had lost that doll and remembered feeling sad because of that. Now get this, it took him 25 years to figure it out that the parents might have replaced it. This dude is an introvert so he never discussed this with anyone before, but it seems that because of that memory he thought that no girls want to come close to him. It sounds insane, but most boys don't even uncover such memories about their past.

Honestly , I'm not a believer in no gender roles. I think that that's just bullshit because the vast majority of people exhibit traits in accordance with their sex. I don't think you have to try and force anybody to fill a role but I don't see any reason why they can't be encouraged to do so.

With that said , the kid is 3. Let him play with the fuckin' doll. If he's a girl trapped inside a boy's body , it's gonna happen eventually whether he plays with that doll or not.

I played with my sisters barbies with her with my GI Joes and I turned out alright... mostly...

There was that one time that I did a drive by shooting on her barbie high school with my GI Joes... and that other time where I wrapped kens head with a toilet paper turban and crashed the barbie plane into her barbie hotel...

But like that's just normal kid stuff...

I had a cabbage patch doll, played with barbies with my sister and legos growing up. I turned out fine. Then again, I transitioned to become a woman. So I may not be the best example. Still I say that there is nothing wrong with it.

I feel terrible about this post, and it breaks my heart. I loved dolls when I was a little boy, and I thank God my parents didn't give a fuck about gender roles.

The only reason I'd ever want to take away a doll from my son is if he was catching a lot of crap from other kids - but at 3, that's not going to happen. Children are absolutely brutal when they decide to make an example of someone different.

That being said, if she really wants him to adopt more masculine toys (not going to be PC here - there are toys aimed more at boys), she should be buying him, say, army men or Legos, and see if they take. Don't snatch the doll away from him - find some other toys to ween him off of it, but don't force him into them.
