He is making a claim that the reality of the past was that whites viewed themselves as the "Aryan" master race (He said "we'd still view Aryans as a master race", which doesn't specifically state "whites", but who else, if not whites, would considering whites the master race in the past? Non-whites? No.) Use of the word "Aryan" also brings in further negative connotations, associating the Holocaust with every white person in history. This is white-bashing, totally unnecessary, and untrue.

I honestly think you may be blinded by leftism into only seeing subtle racism when it's against a so-called minority race with a history of oppression by some members of a so-called majority race. But racism does not exist only against the minority class, and it's not acceptable to let racism slide against whites.

I am as sensitive to "reverse" racism against whites as I am to "reverse" sexism against men (sensitive as in "quick to detect or respond to slight changes, signals, or influences", not as in "butt hurt" as AA would so eloquently put it). It's easy to ignore racism and sexism against the supposed "oppressor" class if you've been trained to your entire life.

Someone who is trying hard to be offended might have interpreted it that way, but that is not what he said or insinuated. He said "we", referring to people of European decent. Whether it was called "Aryan" or not, many Europeans who employed slaves thought of them as less than human, or a sub-class of humans. "White" People were viewed as superior.

You can argue differently, but you would just continue to prove my point.

As for what Alanna said, she is clearly laughing at someone getting under someone else's skin. My comment to OThomson could easily be applied to Alanna as well. I don't see why not.

You guys do the same thing - you follow around moderates and antagonize them with inane things. When they make a strong point, you call them trolls. When you feel like you have made a strong point, you are incredibly abusive in your response.

But yeah, I think AA's response was dead on. Neither he nor I approve of racism against white people, but we are also not so childish as to get upset when someone makes ridiculous comments. We prefer to focus on something that shows actual signs of racism.

None-the-less, I did warn OThomson as I warned other people in the past, as is laid out in the mod policy. If you can't see that, I don't care. If you can't see it, then you definitely are concern trolling and you are not worth my time responding to.

Why is it okay for blacks to be offended while it's not okay for whites? How can you say that someone has to be "trying hard to be offended" when someone disparages their race in an environment that already disparages their culture? And if you don't see that whites are disparaged and mistreated in some ways, then again, you're blind to racism that isn't against a supposed "victim" class.

You are doing the same thing to whites that feminists do to men. Exactly the same. "Grow up! Stop whining! You have it too good to complain about anything!" I appear to be a much more authentic egalitarian than you are.

She is engaging directly in racism as well as encouraging it. So "funny" racism is okay here? And racism against whites is "funny" but racism against blacks is "not funny" and a bannable offense?

It seems you are truly drawing a skin color line between acceptable racism and unacceptable racism.

Where is Alanna's warning? Where is the acknowledgement that even white people can be offended by casual racism against them? Why marginalize all whites at this sub-reddit simply to punish MSB? And no, you don't get to say "I'm white and I don't care" anymore than white knights get to say "I'm a man and I don't care" when the topic of misandry comes up. Actually, you do "get to say" it, but you shouldn't, and you're not an egalitarian if you do.

A picture is being painted of a so-called egalitarian sub-reddit where the moderators nevertheless consider certain sub-groups more equal than others. Racism and marginalization against whites is encouraged and anyone who is offended is "butt hurt" because "it's just a joke". Racism and marginalization against blacks and other minorities is bannable. Repeated lewd unwanted sexual advances by bisexual men against heterosexual men are encouraged and anyone who is offended is "butt hurt" because "it's just a joke". Repeated lewd unwanted sexual advances by heterosexual men against women are a bannable offense.

That's not egalitarian.

People have posted a plethora of evidence for Thingsarebad in the comments on this thread. Check them out. Also check out his history to find the repeated verbal warnings he was given (they were public). As for the 24 hour suspension, there really is no way to provide any evidence of that. AnnArchist can verify everything that I say, and you can either take our combined words of identical stories, or not.

As for MrStinkybutt, it is clearly stated in the mod policy that accounts that are under 3 months old have a no tolerance policy. His account is under 3 months old. His repeated use of racial slurs is one reason. His personal threats to me are another.

It is very difficult to provide evidence of personal communications because they can easily be faked. I took the issue up with the admins, but they mostly ignore users who have interpersonal problems. They would rather let the mods deal with the issues themselves, in their own way. So MSB was banned.

Malcolm X and his followers were terrifying, too. But this is what inevitably happens when a specific group is permitted--legally and socially--to be discriminated against and disenfranchised.

If you're white and you're male, you aren't even allowed to talk about a problem or injustice you suffer without being told to "STFU, you're just trying to hold onto your right to oppress others." When discrimination against a group is actually codified, and members of that group are denied the right to even talk about their problems without being vilified, what do YOU think the reaction is going to be?

Many members of the "white male alliance" groups are indeed powerful and privileged and capitalizing on current social conditions that don't really affect them specifically. That does not mean those social conditions do not exist for a large number of members, or that there is not good cause for dissatisfaction.

As for women's suffrage? It was destined to change the entire way society interacted with government. Some of the affects are not going to be positive, considering the social norms at the time (and even today) were an expectation that women and children should be "taken care of", and now a large bloc of voters had the means to foist a huge amount of that job onto government itself. Since women's suffrage, governments have expanded to about 100x there original size, income tax (originally a temporary measure) has stuck and only increased, and the welfare state has expanded enormously.

It's no surprise that the most feminist countries also tend to have the greatest tax burden--placing the welfare of women and children in the hands of government is costly, because unlike a husband or father (who supported women and children out of love and/or duty), government takes a huge cut before what's left trickles down to help, support and protect women and children.

Discussing the ways women's suffrage has altered our society, not always for the better, is not inherently sexist. And frankly, I don't think we're in any danger of women losing the vote, unless we allow the current system to expand and expand to the point where there's a serious collapse. And if that happens--if government no longer has the ability to protect and provide for women and their children because the bubble finally burst--I think the right to vote is going to be the least of women's worries.

Surviving and digging ourselves out of the mess.

Let's look at Afghanistan. A lot of people think they're completely fucked as a country because they keep women down. But it's the other way around. They didn't always keep women down. A lot of older women in Afghanistan are highly educated. They were downright progressive, 40 years ago.

Then 30 years of proxy wars fought on their soil devastated their country, and living conditions got so harsh extreme patriarchy and religious fundamentalism teamed up to impose order. Resources are scarce, their economy is broken, many still cook over dung fires, there's little uncorrupt enforcement of the law. When the Soviets pulled out, it became Lord of the Flies--you have tribal warfare, the unscrupulous vying for power, no rule of law other than the most extreme form of religious law.

Women are kept in cages (where they can be kept alive, and where they can't "cause trouble", and any who step out of line are put to death so they can't disrupt society's tenuous grasp on some kind of order), and men are sent out into the world to fight for carrion, where their lives are cheap, harsh and soon over. Warlords walk over the bodies of children to obtain power and wealth, women die in childbirth, and survival of the fittest is the rule everyone has to live by.

And while I don't think we're in for as hard a road to walk as Afghanistan if we manage to bloat the oligarchy to the point where we can't sustain it anymore and it falls on us...the changes that happen if there's a major collapse are not going to be fun ones for women.

Nah, it's not left-right (because both are on one side of) it's the Liberal - Conservative split.

You can't be a liberal and be an MRA, period. Anyone who is a liberal and who argues for equality is actually arguing for female superiority (whether they know it or not). Until we resolve the issue of women having social preference over men... fat chance... to argue for women to have legal equality + social preference IS to argue for the next step, where women turn equality + preference => legal advantage.

A liberal MRA is nothing more than a trojan horse for feminism and female superiority. Hopefully they will recognize that sooner rather than later. I guess it really depends on what is more important to them: a quest for an impossible "equality" or a sustainable society which won't destroy their children.

The intelligent are more likely conservatives and the educated are more likely liberals. This is not a shocker to me.

They generally call themselves libertarians... which has its own interesting liberal/conservative split (they disagree less than the MRA liberal/conservative split, however)

See, here's the issue: For libertarians, liberal/conservative really doesn't matter all that much as you can resolve their core issue (reduction of government and personal freedoms) whether you are a liberal or a conservative. They just have slightly different ideas on how exactly to get there, but the overall goal is the same.

With MRAs, the split is huge. Conservative MRAs generally want a return to traditional gender roles, while liberal MRAs want to make magic happen and have equality. Those goals are not the same, much less the ways to get there. The real crux problem is that Conservative MRAs know that a move towards exact equality (rights, responsibilities, and privilege) = female supremacy. That's why we see Liberal MRAs as a problem rather than co-workers towards a solution... because liberal MRAs aren't supplying a solution to the problem!

Now, IF liberal MRAs wanted to supply a solution, they first have to accomplish a goal, and that goal is to remove female privilege. Until that goal is accomplished, advocating for equal rights (and the often ignored equal responsibilities) is not a valid solution for equality because the end result will not be equality but rather female superiority. But that's not what I've seen any liberal MRA advocate for. Instead, they say "let's set the rights to equal (and if they're really smart they might mention responsibilities too) and everything will work out!" totally ignoring the difference in privilege. That's simply not a solution. And, us conservatives see it for what the end result will be: as an argument for female superiority.

That's bullshit, its actually going to be far easier to get progressive types to support many of our issues than it will be so-cons, right wing Conservatives, traditionalists etc. Keeping traditional male servitude and female protection in place, is the opposite of what men's rights is about. We don't want the state to take care of women more so than men, nor do we want it to be our obligation to take over from the state, your solution is basically the same thing as the welfare state, just applied differently - directly by men as individuals, it still involves men being obligated to take care of women.

And you base your theories in divisive american politics and civilizations that tried to evolve in a certain direction but failed mostly because they didn't have birth control technology and strong reproductive rights in place for both sexes.

But I don't think that you care that your belief system has large holes in it, I think that your idea for the men's movement is best described as crypto-right wing american politics, and that's more important than the truth and what the mens movement itself wants.

You are the one who is ignorant. There are two ways to obtain equality: exact equality (equal rights/responsibilities/privilege) which is the liberal view or relative equality (the three are individually unequal but the balance is roughly equal) which is the conservative view.

What about egalitarianism do you presume leaves space for this?

That's the whole problem... it doesn't. You are giving a two car garage solution to a house that has 3 cars. That third car doesn't fit, there is no space for it, but it still exists and has to be dealt with.

If anything, you attempt to create a contradiction that doesn't exist.

What is your precise problem with Ig? To be clear, I have not been closely following this community recently, honestly I moved on to other men's rights communities outside of reddit that aren't so geared toward bitching and more aimed at discussing solutions. I didn't even know Kloo was not here anymore or what happened to cause him to leave. However, from everything I have read Ig is a fair, moderate and solution focused MRA and a good moderator. I have read through the history of the two posters who were banned and they never once contributed to the conversation, were almost always down voted below the threshold and mainly only spouted racist and frankly, misogynistic, rants, and I don't use that word lightly. They were supporting hate speech and their posts blatantly violated the communities policies that have been here since the beginning.

So, why do you feel that Ig should be removed as a moderator? What specifically has he done, as far as action he has taken in deleting posts or banning members, that was abusive in any way, not his personal opinions.

Dude, as an African American male, there is no way I can side with conservative politics. Those so-called conservative values would have still kept me and mine as second-class citizens in this country.

The conservatives were not marching with Dr. King during the Civil Rights movement. The conservatives were not the ones that got attacked by dogs, sprayed by fire hoses, or rode on the Freedom Buses.

I agree totally that there has to be change in regards to men's rights and that real work has to be done. But if you try to make this movement into a "Left vs. Right" thing, then you are going to kill this movement.

There are already those who want to make this a "white men only" movement as well...I see quite a few of those on the Spearhead.

This isn't going to work...there has to be compromises on both the liberal and conservative fronts within the MRM if we are going to be successful.

If kloo2yoo and kanuck were to come back and disagree with my moderation, I would take it very seriously and chat with them about the direction that they would like to see the subreddit go (including the possibility of changing moderators). kloo created r/MR, and kanuck was an awesome moderator (and my predecessor). I have great respect for them.

Alternatively, if a vote were taken of all subscribers that had at least 51% vote asking me to resign, then I would also consider stepping down. (FYI, up/down votes don't require the voter to be a subscriber, so that isn't proof.) The problem with that is that there are too many inactive or casual subscribers who really don't care.

I realize that some people don't like me as a moderator, some people don't really care either way, and some people do like me. But the same could be said of anyone who moderates. It is impossible to make everyone happy.

I don't agree with your bannings but I wouldn't want an "unkown" moderator to take your place. How long have you been moderating this board?

And a better question, is there anyone who has been on this board longer than you who does not want you as a moderator?

I am not happy with the recent "moderation changes" at all. But that is a matter of style. I felt that the "diamonds" in the "rough that was the chaos" of this board were of higher quality than any conversations on more "moderate" boards of the same vein. From the most malicious, outlandish and misinformed views comes the most logical, concise and well cited responses.

Having said that, I also feel and have said in the past that this board is the "closest portal" that the MRM has to "mainstream media". Just a few subreddits away you have celebrities, scientists, politicians and media figureheads doing AMA's and otherwise interacting on a relatively intimate scale with the Reddit community as a whole.

While I personally don't like the change in style of this board, no matter how subtle it might be, I can see the benefits of tempering some of the extreme elements that used to thrive in these threads.

But be aware, if moderation is too strong you will scare away the opposition, and become like any other MRM "isolated" forum, an echo-chamber of non-events and non-issues. It is far easier to ignore a board that is being moderated to the point of ideal censorship. This is why it doesn't bother me to ignore /r/anarchism or /r/feminisms.

They put you in a tough position and you did what you thought was right, which is what I respect. I don't think I would have done the same but I don't fully disagree with your means or ends... just wish they weren't being asshats.

I appreciate this follow up comment. It really does feel like a "rock and a hard place" type situation.

I always give things time and I am willing to listen to other's points of view. When AA was instated as mod, we made some changes that he wanted to see in how the subreddit was moderated and then we gave it 3 months to see how it worked out. Unfortunately, it didn't work out - it was a great idea, but it had complications, and the side effect was that SRS went batshit rampant all over r/MR.

A number of SRS type trolls have been banned since the mod policy change, and a huge swath of SRS comments have been removed. But when it is some of "our own" that get removed, I thought it prudent to at least let the user base know about it. A courtesy, and one not shown in other subreddits.

But it doesn't matter what we do - someone is going to complain. It is impossible keeping everyone happy when we have such extremely disparate points of view in this subreddit. So the only possible goal for moderation is to find one that promotes the most discussion - and sometimes that means removing overbearing individuals who don't respect fellow users.

How in the world would one go about this in order to satisfy some ambiguous test which I doubt will be possible to satisfy? Besides, you use puppet accounts to pump your threads and posts.

Until you slowly ban them by labeling them various things. If you applied similar standards to yourself, I think you might have trouble passing. You started /r/traditionalistmras as a pure and total troll. Do you somehow manage to avoid mirrors at all costs?

Please read How reddit works on the official Reddit blog. In particular:

The moderators of each community decide how to moderate and who to include on their team. Some are very hands-off, while some define specific criteria for appropriate uses of their community.

If you are unable to resolve your grievances with the current moderation team of a subreddit, the best response is often to create a competitor and see if the community follows you. In the rare cases of mismoderation, some of the most successful subreddits ever have cropped up overnight in response.

I recently created /r/TraditionalistMRAs, made MrStinkyButt a moderator, then resigned as top moderator myself. He seems to have taken it well.

Edit: Oh, in case you hadn't guessed, no I'm no sock puppet... to use one of MrStinkyButt's favourite phrases "100% guaranteed" :).

Now, I will admit I am a bit of a troll. I'm blunt and loathable. But I do care about the future of society and men's rights. So please understand that everything I did was in what I thought was for "the greater good".

What a blatant act of censorship. Wow, you really outdid yourselves this time. For christ's sake, mrstinkybutt has three submissions on the front page of the subReddit AS WE SPEAK.

But extremely belligerent and troublemaking individuals will find themselves removed completely.

You are banning people that have differing opinions than you and call you out for your foolish and childish behavior. Thingsarebad and Mrstinkybutt can be abrasive at times, but so were your reactions to them. They have plenty of good points even if they are unpopular.

This is foolish and you are harming the movement. I warned everyone that this is what would happen when they instituted this silly policy. They will start with the blatant trolls and start censoring anyone with disagreeing opinions. Here is step two.
