Meanwhile these two men's futures have been jeopardized because of a lying bitch who once again decided to use rape accusations as a tool to get her way.

[–]ewilliam 153 points154 points155 points 9 years ago (16 children) | Copy Link

Yovino is now charged with one count of second degree false reporting and one felony count of tampering with or fabricating physical evidence. The felony could land her in prison for up to five years. Her arraignment is set for March 3.

At least she's being charged...it's insane how women get away with these lies. Jackie Coakley, the girl who made up that story that was the basis for Rolling Stone's BS piece, hasn't had to face any repercussions. She'll just go on with her life...shit, most news outlets still to this day refuse to print her last name and just refer to her as "Jackie". How is that fair? The men who were falsely accused got their names unfairly plastered all over the news, but the woman who committed this ruse is afforded the protections of anonymity? It still sticks in my craw.

But I digress. It's at least progress to see this woman getting charged and her full name released and printed.

for up to five years.

Which will come out to 100 hours community service or something. They always go lax on these situations.

[–]Jex117 42 points43 points44 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Statistically they go lax on women in general, across the board. Even examples of a man/woman crime couple, they always charge give the man a harder sentence.

she'll still be kicked out of college with a felony on her record. Her life will be fucked up nonetheless

[–]eletheros 22 points23 points24 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'll believe that when I see it.

First, she'll take a golden plea deal granted her by some biased prosecutor.

Second, the school will waive any ethics violations - pointing out "it's just a misdemeanor" - and continue to allow her to attend.

[–]TheProphecyIsNigh 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Or she will get an honorary degree or something.

[–]keithmcd901 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]therable_theradactyl 18 points19 points20 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Yes! Thankfully she is being charged!! I've always wondered how it was possible for women to not be charge for falsely accusing men of rape. I 100% believe women who falsely accuse men of rape should be charged AND convicted. No slaps on the wrists... people need to be held accountable. Make an example out of a select few with harsh punishments so women will stop with this BS. It is beyond me how someone is willing and capable of ruining the life of another (innocent) person!

[–]TheCoyPinch 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

As much as I dislike the idea of giving harsh punishments to set an example, I feel like that is what has to be done to stop the false rape accusations and the hate crime hoaxes.

[–]bearinfoxhole1 point 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

not enough. Wanna bet she'll be out in a few months for "good behavior"?

[–]jaheiner 11 points12 points13 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I agree it's progress but it's really sad that we've turned accusations of rape into the weapon of choice for women with no moral fucking compass...

This is not anything new. Heck, its in the bible.

[–]phukka 5 points6 points7 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

What do you think feminism fights for anymore? The right to falsely accuse men of rape for personal gain seems to be really fucking high on their list.

[–]the_unseen_one 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Let's see her get a deferred six month sentence.

[+]dudeware points 9 years ago* [recovered] (4 children) | Copy Link

Yup, what bullshit. She needs to get 20+ years AND be charged as a sex offender. This shit keeps happening and these girls get slaps on the wrist while the victims are fucked for life and some times just kill themselves from the ridicule of everyone they know thinking they're this monstrous rapist.

[–]thinkdeep 14 points15 points16 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

That is an interesting concept I have never thought of: requiring those whom are found guilty of fabricating a rape to be registered as a sex offender.

To be sure, this makes sense under a very liberal interpretation of "sex offender," but the more I think about this, the more I think this is the appropriate thing to do. They have abused sex, but not the type of sex most people consider; to put it more aptly, they have weaponized sex--just like someone whom commits a sexual assault or puts a camera in a dressing room--and they should be punished as such.

[–]TheCoyPinch 3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Your username is very accurate, as is your comment.

[–]Mackowatosc 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Alternatively, just balance the equasion. Get a legal position of state appointed rapist, akin to state executioner. Fake rape? Well now its real, girl. You asked for it.

[–]Chibibaki 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I have often wondered about the merits of doing such a thing myself.

[–]Taco-Time 14 points15 points16 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Jeapordized? They suffered real repercussions despite being found innocent. Yeah it could have been worse but both of them lost their scholarships and are not playing football anymore and one of them isn't even back at school.

[–]GermanScrewdriver 6 points7 points8 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Guilty in spite of being proven innocent. I always thought it was the other way round...

[–]Pz5 10 points11 points12 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Nikki Yovino should be prosecuted and the 2 football players should sue the school for sex discrimination. They were not dismissed based on evidence but rather gender.

[–]Chibibaki 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Thanks to the internet they can never fully escape the accusations.

[–]Gotovoat5342 138 points139 points140 points 9 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

This is what bugs me SO much. Feminists say there are no false accusations because no woman would subject herself to the pain and humiliation of accusing someone of rape if it didn't actually happen.

Yet, time and time again we see completely mundane and, frankly, stupid reasons for false accusations. Not even mental illness, just... Complete disregard to the consequences.

She accused people of rape so a bit will sympathize with her and get closer to her.

I remember one girl who claimed she was raped because she wanted her mother to not be angry she failed a math test.

My ex accused me of rape after we broke up (didn't get to the police thank God!) Because her friends were giving her shit for breaking up with me, saying it was a mistake, and she wanted then to stop. (Two years later she apologized and told everyone that she lied, but those were the two worse years of my life)

It's just... False rape accusations can fit the smallest and stupidest of reasons.

[–]DevilishRogue 36 points37 points38 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Feminists say there are no false accusations because no woman would subject herself to the pain and humiliation of accusing someone of rape if it didn't actually happen.

I'm happy to report that I'm seeing this less and less these days from feminists and hope that it is increasingly being abandoned for the obvious insanity it is.

[–]azazelcrowley 15 points16 points17 points 9 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

To be fair, feminists I meet online have become a better frequency of not saying patently fucking stupid and misandrous things over the last couple of years. Some still do.

I think mostly though they're slowly realizing their movement has been pretty anti-men in a lot of ways, and it taught them a bunch of abusive arguments and mindsets, and often outright lies that they spread, so now want to distance themselves from the institutions they used to support, and presumably, build new ones.

I have NOT seen however, much recognition from these "Not that kind of feminists" on the fact they had to UNLEARN being "Not that kind of feminist.", because their universities and media and all that shit did it. They don't seem to want to confront the fact that the default state of feminism is misandry, and it requires viewpoints from outside the movement and its institutions for a feminist to change.

A feminist is only a decent person to the extent they aren't a feminist, in other words. Their decency does not stem from within the movement.

I think it reveals a kind of denial on their part. Next time you meet a "Not that kind of feminist", ask them "Were you ever?" and take the conversation that route.

[–]SpiritofJames 8 points9 points10 points 9 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Simply saying that something has happened is almost infinitely easier than performing the action. Surely it is much, much easier to lie about rape than to actually rape someone. On net, given what we know of human societies, nature, and behavior, we would expect false rape accusations to greatly outnumber actual rapes for this reason alone.

This seems trite and obvious to me. Yet people act as if women are different from other people. Even worse, we've built systems that even further incentivize lying about rape. If you could gain so much from a mere report, with little to no official or even unofficial sanctions against you, I think most be people would be pretty tempted....

[–]bravado 20 points21 points22 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I think the "listen and believe" response is from people who legitimately think that women are incapable of devious behaviour (while it might even be natural for men) - but isn't that sort of fairy tale princess thinking super sexist? Women are just as capable of being deceitful as men and the law should work around this fact.

[–]azazelcrowley 9 points10 points11 points 9 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Personally I think a lot of this shit has been about legitimizing speech control and organized intimidation of the population by the people who control the overton window.

It's to terrorize us into compliance.

The press is prepared to get on board with the feminist movement because it gives them more power to control the overton window and the acceptable things to say.

They want to be able to make speaking opposition to anything the press and elites want grounds for immediate firing and social ostracization.

This also gatekeeps so their ideology rules in perpetuity.

Eventually, they'll all just end up dead. I'm not advocating it, just acknowledging a fact about how this usually goes.

The elites never learn.

They are actively going to make it so they are out of touch from the populace by ensuring all the institutions of power conform to their ideology of neoliberal capitalism, and bolstering progressivism is about bolstering speech control and gatekeeping mechanisms, as well as intimidation of people with careers in those institutions into compliance. Keep an eye out for sudden new arguments about how saying/doing/wearing a particular thing is terrible and the person who said it should be fired, despite this not existing as one of their rules before. They make them up as they go along as an excuse to target the person, often for going against their agenda on capitalism, or questioning this regime of speech control.

What gets me is, you know the hard-left often says "Poverty is violence."?

Well, then, isn't this kind of shit terrorism?

[–]Mitthrawnuruodo1337 17 points18 points19 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

because no woman would subject herself to the pain and humiliation of accusing someone of rape if it didn't actually happen

They use circular reasoning, and often legitimately don't see it. Making an accusation is painful for an actual victim because you have to face what happened. Thus, why would anyone subject themselves to that pain if they didn't really need justice? Of course they miss that such pain is predicated on referencing real memories... There is no such pain for false accusers, just maybe a little inconvenience when questioned.

[–]TheCoyPinch 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And the questioning isn't necessarily going to be that inconvenient either. I'll try to find a link to the story, but basically a woman accused a man of rape, and then she only had to recite her story once and that was the extent of her involvement in the case.

[–]cr4zyh4ck3r12 points 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I feel for you man, had the same thing happen to me in highschool. Crazy ass christian girl with a crazy ass christian family. Treated like shit the first court date, but the 2nd and 3rd it became clear that she was lying through her fucking teeth. The real bullshit was when I had to do 6 months of informal probation(no charges) to 'ease the fire' while she had got off absolutely scott free.

[–]mitzibishi4 points 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Makes me wonder how many rape convictions are based on false accusations. I'm guessing there are a lot of innocent men in prison being raped right now.

[–]Electroverted 38 points39 points40 points 9 years ago* (6 children) | Copy Link

University spokeswoman Deborah Noack told the New York Post, “Whenever there is any kind of incident at Sacred Heart University, we go to great lengths to ensure due process for all parties involved. The way that this particular case is playing out certainly demonstrates the validity of our procedures.”

Because it's probably happening a lot and they're sick of this bullshit.

Edit: Nevermind. Her definition of "due process" is fucked up, considering the school immediately threw those two students under the bus.

[–]JakeDC 49 points50 points51 points 9 years ago* (4 children) | Copy Link

Well, her statement is just nonsensical and dishonest.

The linked article from the Connecticut Post says:

But months after the players were dismissed from the team, stripped of their scholarships and had withdrawn from the school, 18-year-old Nikki Yovino confessed she had made the rape allegations up to gain the sympathy of a prospective boyfriend, police said.

It also says:

One of the students has now been allowed readmission to the school but without his scholarship and he is no longer on the football team.

Uh, sounds to me like the time for due process was months ago, and the damage was already inflicted before any due process took place. So, "great lengths to ensure due process for all parties involved" my ass. And what is going on demonstrates the invalidity of the school's procedures. If the procedures were valid in the first place, none of this would be going on.

[–]pynewbie 14 points15 points16 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Can't they sue?! I would certainly try.

[–]JakeDC 11 points12 points13 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Many have sued schools in similar situations. Results have been mixed, but overall not great. The fact the SHU is private is not helpful.

[–]thetompain 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No, they most likely signed conduct clauses which they violated by even being in that situation. it is a Catholic University.

[–]thetompain 5 points6 points7 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I take that to mean - "we didn't go as crazy as some other institutions have pushed Title 9, but we also created conduct clauses to give us the right to punish student athletes that embarrass us."

[–]______POTATOES______ 7 points8 points9 points 9 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

" [..] we go to great lengths to ensure due process for all parties involved. . The way that this particular case is playing out certainly demonstrates the validity of our procedures.”

I like how even though the football players admitted they had sex with her, her lawyer still says she was worried that her potential boyfriend would be put off by "the allegation that she had sex with them" rather than "the fact that she had sex with them."

[–]Istalriblaka 10 points11 points12 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

"The way that this particular case is playing out certainly demonstrates the validity of our procedures"

"The alleged attackers never faced criminal charges, and one of them has now been readmitted to Sacred Heart — but without his scholarship, and he is no longer playing football." (Emphasis mine)

Remember folks, hearsay is as good as video proof and a dozen eye witnesses in the eye of universities.

[–]Blutarg 21 points22 points23 points 9 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

When was the last time a rape allegation in the news turned out to be true?

[–]Mitthrawnuruodo1337 10 points11 points12 points 9 years ago* (4 children) | Copy Link

Anything which gets traction is far more likely to be fake because the account is tailor-made to elicit attention. I'm on mobile atm, but there's a study I like to link to that demonstrates that there is a strong correlation between likelihood of being false and certain elements to the account... Basically it boils down to accounts that elicit more sympathy and are more stereotypical or involve being drugged are far less likely to be true, if I recall.

EDIT: It was two studies actually, found here and here, but unfortunately both are pay-walled.

[–]Blutarg 3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

[–]Uzak45 11 points12 points13 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Yea doesn't it count as libel and/or slander?

[–]Rauma11 points 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Yeah that's what I'm thinking, even if the authorities don't go after her they can at least get a conviction against her and potentially some compensation, not that it'd make up for what they've been through. Although I doubt they'd get any money due to her probably not having any.

Not sure how the legal system works in the US but it'd be possible in the UK to go after her, particularly as she's admitted guilt.

Defamation of character.

[–]contractor808 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

[–]TheCoyPinch 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

They would probably sue just for the satisfaction if they did take action, although they might be able to get a lawyer to go for a percentage of the winnings.

[–]ewilliam 10 points11 points12 points 9 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

FTA:

[–]IAmMadeOfNope 10 points11 points12 points 9 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Thanks for the correction but please keep in mind she's only been charged.

I sincerely doubt she'll be convicted, but at least there's hope

[–]ewilliam 9 points10 points11 points 9 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Hey at least she's being charged. As I noted in another comment above, a lot of times there aren't even any charges for false accusers. Jackie Coakley basically walked away from that whole Rolling Stone UVa debacle even though she clearly made up that whole elaborate scenario (and even went so far as to create fake personalities on the internet) just to get a guy.

[–]JakeDC 4 points5 points6 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I agree, but it is interesting that the charge that has any teeth is a general law about tampering with or fabricating evidence. The false reporting charge appears to be significantly more minor. Which suggests that the charges here are not very relevant to efforts to ensure that false accusers face significant criminal penalties.

[–]ewilliam 3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Do you think that there are more specific statutes that could be applied here? Or are you saying that there should be but aren't?

[–]JakeDC 7 points8 points9 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

What I am saying is that in this particular case, her conduct apparently allowed officers to charge her with a crime relating to inventing or tampering with evidence. I don't think the article gives enough facts for us to tell why that is. According to the article, this is the charge that could have serious repurcussoins for her. But in many (most?) false accusation situations, there won't be any basis for evidence-related charges. There will just be potential for a false accusation charge, which appears to be a fairly minor. Upshot: The only charge she is facing that really has any significance is one that will not come up in most false accusation cases. Advancing the ball will require giving more teeth to the criminal statute about false reports.

so did it work? i get really tired of girls coercing men into relationships by demanding they be protected. i've seen so many girls accuse their ex's of being abusive/etc to seem more interesting and excuse their shitty behavior.

False accusation of rape should carry the same sentence as rape. Across all genders, I'm not talking about female teachers raping students and getting 18 months. I'm talking about the amount of time a male would get for rape.

The thing about the rape allegations is that even when it's proven to be 100% bullshit, somewhere out there will be a lot of people who believe the 'victim' was just pressured by the horrible, horrible lawyers. There's that and then there's the people who read about the case, make a note of the defendant's name and completely ignore any news about the case going belly up.

After that it's time for some good ol' back alley justice.

The actual timeline is: she consensually fucks a couple football players... the guy that she dates finds out, so she cries rape so that she can manipulate him into being her boyfriend and won't lose him. She's a monster.

I went to high school with this girl. She was really nice and I never would have expected her to do something like this.

This is what people don't understand! They will say things like "don't stick your dick in crazy" or "you should have saw the red flags and stayed away from her". A lot of people assume that women that do this must have some kind of mental illnesses.

They don't realize that it's nearly impossible to predict this kind of shit. Some girl can be perfectly "normal" and "good" but under certain circumstances, when her back is against the wall, she will have no problem throwing an innocent man under the bus just to save face and protect herself.

It's really fucked up and selfish but women are human beings after all! All people, Men and women, are capable of some truly horrible, disgusting behavior. We are all capable of being evil and making some bad decisions.

The problem is that society has always treated women like innocent little snowflakes. Long before feminism ever existed, women were treated almost like children. They have never been held responsible for their actions to the same standard as men. There's always been this idea that women must be protected and coddled.

Even now, after decades of feminism, this kind of mentality still exists in our collective psyche. This is illustrated by the huge sentencing disparity between men and women in our justice system.

One of the most hypocritical things about feminism is that they are constantly fighting for women to be treated/viewed the same as men (as they should) but they only do this in the areas that benefit women. When it comes to things like our justice system or our divorce courts, they have no problem with women being treated like children that need to be coddled and protected because it gives them a huge advantage. It's fucking bullshit and it makes me see red!

[–]bearinfoxhole 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Those women should face twice the punishment. 1. Destroying someone's life. 2. Making it hard for real rape victims. I am sorry but present laws literally favor false rape accusers. They face very laughable punishments just because they are women. Or just give her own medicine. Drop her in a conflict zone and see how long will her tough act survive.

Love how your boys scour the net to find the rare examples of this while ignoring the countless examples of women being abused/raped.

Point to the exception to the rule as being important as the rule itself?

If only your hatred for the men who rape was as strong as your distaste for the women who lie. If only you used your collective to spotlight crimes against all of humanity, and not just the select and historically privileged few.

I'm guessing that you are all also supporters of the equally offensive "all lives matter" group for the same idiotic reasons

Maybe we just care about a HUGE fucking flaw in the justice system-- a vindictive woman (or possibly even a man who knows how to gather sympathy) can ruin lives with no threat to themselves and no need for solid evidence.

Further, maybe it only seems rare because it's taboo as fuck to discuss because everyone thinks it's rare because these things never end in conviction or even investigation.

I know there are at least 3 or 4 of us on this sub that this has happened to, and I'm pretty sure our cases haven't been included in any statistics because nobody wants to be the one to track it and get marked for death by feminists.

Point to the exception to the rule as being important as the rule itself?

Not sure what you're trying to say.

If only your hatred for the men who rape was as strong as your distaste for the women who lie.

This would be a valid sentiment of it were just a lie. But this is "gosh I sure want this guy to be publicly slandered and get 30 years in prison and have his future decimated.

If only you used your collective to spotlight crimes against all of humanity, and not just the select and historically privileged few.

Selectively picking causes based on relevance to you is bad? Lemme know when you travel to Africa and feed all the children there, when you fill your house with homeless people so they have a place to stay, and when you decide not to be a hypocrite by criticizing people for supporting causes.

I'm guessing that you are all also supporters of the equally offensive "all lives matter" group for the same idiotic reasons

You don't think all lives matter?

[–]PIG_CUNT 10 points11 points12 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Not sure who you're talking to but how is picking one cause to support, any different than picking BLM as a cause to support?

Also you are saying that all rapes matter but you're saying that "all lives matter" is stupid and offensive. Hypocrite much?

[–]andejoh 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

First, how do you know it's a minor problem? Second there are hundreds of "victim's advocates" already doing what you claim is more important. Who besides us, is even remotely concerned about false accusations. Fourth, false accusations could and have had a devastating affected on the wrongly accused. Of course, you think a man spending 5 or even 25 years in prison on a false conviction is a minor inconvenience and he really should be concerned about how distraught the woman must have been to put him there because he didn't call her back the next day. That's the real victim, right?

3% of rape cases end in conviction. 2% of rape cases are considered false. So about 40% of provanle cases are false accusations. Doesn't sound like a small number.

Where's you sympathy for the actual victims of the case. The 2 men who had their lives derailed and like will have trust issues moving forward?

[–]sillymod 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

There are starving people in Africa. If only your concern for starving people in Africa was as strong as your concern about what people post on the internet. If only you used your wit and internet-warrior-effort to spotlight crimes against all of humanity, and not just a select, privileged few. Then the world would be a better place.
