I tell my boys never, ever to start a fight, but that if anyone hits them to punch them straight back in the face (and aim for the nose) and then leg-it.

Is that what they mean?

What is this?

[–]AkaviriDragon 16 points17 points18 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

never hit girls or women, no matter what

my (much older) brother was told this by my mother when he was young. he kept getting hit by girls, and thought he couldn't fight back.

when I was 13 I was quite happily playing with my Legos on the table while my sister was watching TV, wasn't making much noise, just quite happily getting on with FUN and then completely out of no were my sister turned to me and gave me a slap around the face and told me to shut up.

I had no idea what I should do (I've already learnt to push my anger inside thanks to my family) so I stormed out of the room and slammed the door behind myself, then that's when I noticed a strange tingle in my fingers, turned to look at my hand and realised I have left the tips of my fingers in the door, to the hospital I went....

shes never apologised or even remarked that what she did was wrong and led to what happened.

Feminists can be divided into stupid, immoral, and lazy who believe what their ideology and culture tells them without checking or thinking. Many feminists represent, of course, all three.

[–]Sasha_ 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I think what I still fair to understand is why this is such a big deal when it's pretty much the smallest problem in society.

[–]nuesuh 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Eye gouging is effective.

[–]Lrellok 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I always found aiming a kick for the knee joint underneath the knee bone followed by an elbow to the solar plexus tended to slow them down alot. Took a little more time, but tended to impede running after me alot more.

[–]Sasha_ 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Apparently (never done it thank God) a punch to throat is effective, but it sounds really nasty and I wouldn't be comfortable doing it in case you killed someone.

Let's imagine a poster that tells us to teach black children not to steal

See how stupid that sounds?

[–]_Eggs_ 9 points10 points11 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

More like "stop theft by black children against white children".

Theft by black children against white children needs to stop. Teach them not to steal when they're young.

[–]ThePigmanAgain 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Hell, not even that -- just imagine this poster with an aboriginal boy. All hell would break loose!

[–]nuesuh 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This is like making a poster telling white kids not to steal.

Women are more frequently violent towards the opposite sex than men.

Black kids steal more frequently than white kids.

Noticed it today at Parramatta railway station in Sydney. Must have cost them a fortune in advertising.

[–]ThePigmanAgain 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I can't imagine that would do any good. All those places are run by pseudo-leftists and feminist scum these days.

[–]Bevman00 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

So that website. Oh boy, that website.

Think you can just write a 'To whom it may concern'? NOPE. Gotta fill out an extended yes/no questionnaire, your full details including address, phone number, full name. Then, at the bottom of the second page it led me to, is a rather small dialogue box with a character limit.

[–]mikesteane 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If you fill it in, you get an email reply to which you can reply. You can also link to websites and other material within your character limit.

I found this while I was on the tram to uni. Come on Australian Government, get your act together. Male violence is a thing, too.

[–]Dragmire800 6 points7 points8 points 10 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

Male violence is a thing, too.

I think that was the point of the poster...

[–]TamidMT 17 points18 points19 points 10 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

I think that was the point of the poster...

Violence against men is most definitely not the point of the poster, but I think you both know that and this is a misunderstanding.

This is a big(oted) ad campaign here, targetted at men and boys, about stopping violence against women by respecting women from a young age. "The cycle of violence against women starts with disrespectful behaviour", the ad claims, harmfully engendering the issue and incredulously ignoring those with a Y-chromosome. "When we excuse these behaviours in our kids, we let it grow", it continues, conveniently degendering the audience by using the word 'kids' instead of the 'boys' who they are pretty clearly trying to guilt. The TV ads are even worse. "Men are always, always the perpetrators and the women are always, always the victims". We can optionally question the ulterior motives of telling men to respect women.

The fatal fundamental problem with this A$30-million campaign is that they're painting men with an extremely broad brush, strawmanning them into something that they're not. Those behind the campaign have started with a faulty assumption and have reached a very harmful conclusion that they're spouting out at a national level. 'The ends justify the means' in their world, and they're completely oblivious to the damage it's doing to the characters and mindset of boys and men. They aren't just being insulted - they are being demonised. There is precedence for me to believe that the accusative approach to this issue is bound to have an adverse affect.

People assert and claim that men can't be loving and tender, but I now see it all the time and all around the country, from the working class city pubs to outback country towns. The reason I see it is because I treat men empathetically and don't blame them for everything that's wrong with our culture. I suspect this is also a major contributor as to why "men don't open up" or why "men are unable to express their feelings": there's a learned helplessness and distrust that men have when they sense that they will cop the blame. I've lived it repeatedly in private male-only groups of varying sizes: men have far less trouble opening up when the people around them are ones they can trust wholeheartedly. Men are hurting, and they've been cultured by everyone, not just other men, not to say anything. They are constantly told to shut up and put up. Women can't hear what men don't say, and men won't speak when society doesn't listen.

The cycle of contempt for men starts with non-empathetic behaviour, and when we excuse these behaviours in our kids, we let it grow.

[–]Zambzz 5 points6 points7 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

completely agree, but i think Dragmire800 was being sarcastic ( ya know its all about males getting violent. )

[+]josh0423 -14 points-13 points-12 points 10 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Do you blame the Australian government trying to target an issue which is over representated by men? I know of course that there is violence against men but the main issue is violence against women. I think both problems should be dealt with accordingly based on importance.

[–]Endless_Summer 12 points13 points14 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Funny, even they know domestic violence is committed pretty much equally between men and women, with men being victims at an equal rate as women. http://www.oneinthree.com.au/overview/

Research from the 2012 ABS Personal Safety Survey and Australian Institute of Criminology shows that both men and women in Australia experience substantial levels of violence.

Males make up a significant proportion of victims of family and sexual violence, yet are excluded from government anti-violence programs such as Our Watch and ANROWS.

75 males were killed in domestic homicide incidents between 2010-12. This equates to one death every 10 days.

But please do go on about the main issue being violence against women, you ignorant twat.

[–]RoboLegGaming 8 points9 points10 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Why don't we just take out 2 birds with one stone and tell everyone that ALL violence is wrong?

[–]Phrodo_00 12 points13 points14 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Why is violence against women more important?

[–]EgoandDesire 7 points8 points9 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

My seething anger when I first saw this in a shopping centre made other customers nervous. I was unprepared, and as such I let my emotions dampen other people's day. Still, though, what can I do about it?

[–]GIfuckingJane 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Twist: the poster was placed there as some huge ironic conspiracy to get you so mad you punched a woman. Poster: 1 you: 0

[–]MalibuStayZ 5 points6 points7 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If you think violence against women is a big problem.

It is, but violence against men is a bigger problem as your own statistics show: http://www.aic.gov.au/statistics/homicide/victims.html

http://www.aic.gov.au/statistics/violent%20crime/assault.html

[–]boringcarpets 6 points7 points8 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

So.... all those abusive mothers that fuck their kids up need to address their issues. I mean it has been proven child abuse is perpetrated by mothers more, hasn't it?

[–]Tmomp 5 points6 points7 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Can someone with photo editing skills reverse the genders on this poster?

[–]nuesuh 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Thanks, this is very helpful.

I've been contemplating moving to either the US or Australia, as our european leaders are about to open the floodgate that is Turkey. My home country is going to be converted into a Muslim nation within the next 40 years.

If the australian government is spending taxdollars on stuff like this, my destination is going to be the united states of america.

[–]ThePigmanAgain 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

As an Australian, i think you are making the right decision -- especially if Trump gets in, as we all hope and pray he does. Australia has swallowed far more feminist and multi-cultural Kool Aid than the Amerikans have -- it will be interesting to see what happens when those two interests collide, as they are currently doing in other idiot countries like Sweden.

[–]nuesuh 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Sweden is a meme

[–]aslarue 8 points9 points10 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Would a poster like this really cause the abusive fathers to rethink and change their attitude towards their sons?

[–]aesopstortoise 10 points11 points12 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Or the abusive mothers to think about what they are teaching their sons about women.

[–]aslarue 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Ah yes, forgot to include the women

That's it, boys are guilty of a crime before they have even committed one. Are we gonna teach young girls to stop killing their baby's aswell?

[–]securitay4 points 10 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

https://www.respect.gov.au/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/Conversation-Guide.pdf

This is their guide on how to "tackle" it - look on page 12. You'll see how to adress your girl, when she's being harassed and disrespected and how to adress your boy, when he's harassing and disrespecting a girl. Just fuck me up.

[–]PowerWisdomCourage 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Given IPV stats, maybe they should be teaching little girls to keep their hands to themselves.

[–]_Kannon 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

"start a conversation"
What they mean is start a narrative and repudiate all decent, a conversation is an exchange of ideas.

[–]Deefry 11 points12 points13 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I wonder if they've intentionally used vague language because the research told them

"violence against women starts with disrespectful behavior"

of women towards boys.

[–]Tmomp 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Sadly, I'm sure many men helped create this poster, so not just women toward boys. Much of society.

[–]erenthia 13 points14 points15 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

This is basically advocating child abuse. It tells women to come down hard on boys who are disrespectful to them and will probably lead to violence in many cases.

I am completely horrified.

[–]ThePigmanAgain 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Women's violence against boys is a major way of maintaining matriarchal power, so it could all be quite deliberate.

[–]Shanguerrilla 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I don't think it is though... I think that's exactly HOW you create the 'monster' that that they are trying to wage war on. If women in greater number beat down and acted like enraged cops (U.S. here) when they don't get enough (over)respect... especially if they are violent against them.. That is specifically the way you raise more sons to be violent against women when he is older I believe.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's the worst one I've seen so far.

[–]civilsaint 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Not to be a grammar Nazi, but this poster makes no sense. What is 'it'?

Whatever it is, why should I tackle it because it's little?

What the fuck does this mean?

[–]Historicaldog 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Obviously spear tackle the child as they will then learn not to mess with an adult..../s

[–]ThePigmanAgain 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No, that will just piss him off and make him go and beat a women's soccer team!

[–]EgoandDesire 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]ThePigmanAgain 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Whatever it is, why should I tackle it because it's little?

You shouldn't, you should leave the tackling to a women's rugby team -- boys that small are the only males they would be able to win against. Heh, heh...

[–]Chickenthang47 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I think being carefully taught is the parent's responsibility and not the responsibility of the government, and it is important to know that infants can be too young to learn and don't have enough social awareness. I think most behaviors at the start are formed as habits. Here's what I did in elementary: saying the pledge of allegiance; ABC's song; lunch time; homework; and ride the bus home. Same process; same routine. But it wasn't questioned.

At first infants are dependent on their parents and tend to mimic their actions at a very young age, such as smiling, making silly faces, sticking their tongues out, etc.

The child's face in the bottom right; is that supposed to be a boy's face? If it is, that's a very one-sided message and may influence others to adopt a "men are the aggressor, women are the victim" mentality, and it makes sense because "it" is referring to "violence against women" and not "violence against everyone."

I'm not a parent and don't condone violence to solve any problems whatsoever, but if I had to defend myself or my children from being severely injured or killed by another person or people, I will fight them.

[–]ThePigmanAgain 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I've seen the bigger version of this fucking poster at bus stops and it's disgusting. Apparently, boys disrespecting women is a problem, women beating the crap out of kids, male and female, is nothing to worry about. You know, i remember when we had media campaigns to prevent child abuse, now it's all about the precious women. Australia is turning into shit.

[–]IronJohnMRA 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Revolting, but I couldn't help but notice a significant change over similar ads in the past. They reference an entire government as being responsible for this message. Usually, it's a specific department or agency which produces this garbage. It would seem that they are almost trying to conceal or perhaps diffuse responsibility for it by referencing an entire government. Another possibility is that by using the entire government as a sponsor it's an attempt at an appeal to authority or maybe even force. This leads me to speculate that they are starting to feel some heat and are trying to shore up their defenses. Quite possibly we are having a serious effect.

[–]Shnook82 -3 points-2 points-1 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

All good, I don't think violence against women is a big problem.

Sadly I think this is targeted at impressionable mothers parents to try to get them to sit their kids down and tell them it's only okay to hit boys. I'm sure that'll work out fine with no resentment issues or ramifications down the line.

[–]bellwhistles -5 points-4 points-3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Come on, this has got to be one of the worst strawmen I've seen in a while. You're deliberately twisting the message of this ad.

[–]BluSn0 -3 points-2 points-1 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

lol tackle your children if they are disrespectful. Its funny but I'm not really so offended by it.
