Women telling men how to "properly" be a man.

FLip the fucking script.

[–]Dis_mah_mobile_one 26 points27 points28 points 9 years ago (39 children) | Copy Link

I used to not believe in cycles of history, but this stupidity has changed my mind. The backlash against the unbroken stream of misandry that has been the feminist movement always, paired with the probable economic and social crises that will spark it, are going to be savage for any "equalist" ideology. And I'm beginning to think that's a good thing.

[–]Flavius_Stilicho 22 points23 points24 points 9 years ago (38 children) | Copy Link

It is really the internal destruction of western civilization. The SJWs are just as militant and ridiculous as the early christians. We are still in the "social pressure" phase, but soon enough expect violence to enforce conformity and "right thinking" to become mandatory.

[–]Dis_mah_mobile_one 13 points14 points15 points 9 years ago (19 children) | Copy Link

Depending on how broadly you define the SJW mosaic, we've already seen violence at the edges this past year. I believe that some sort of new compromise between men and women (and majority heterosexuals and the minority sexualities) is imperative in order to best react to the whirlwind changes that industrialization and the de-personalization of work has wrought. But at this point I believe that equality is impossible.

I also believe that feminism and the wider SJW axis is completely uninterested in compromise, so I think that any coming backlash will be decidedly anti-equality ideologically, and with how bad intersexual relations have gotten, and how much real world damage it is causing, sociologically, economically and morally, I'm kinda looking forward to it.

[–]Flavius_Stilicho 18 points19 points20 points 9 years ago (18 children) | Copy Link

I just want to be left alone to raise my family in peace and not have the school system brainwash my kid into hating himself or thinking he is an attack helicopter.

[–]Dis_mah_mobile_one 15 points16 points17 points 9 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

See I'm not a father yet so my thinking is still more hypothetical than yours. I want a family but it kinda scares me, I'm not sure I want to do it in the US after watching my cousins get chewed up by divorce.

[–]BigOldNerd 14 points15 points16 points 9 years ago* (6 children) | Copy Link

The news you read here is extreme. I have two boys in a midwest city and none of this stuff comes up. Elementary is tilted against boys who have a lot of energy which means you have to put in a lot of effort to make sure they complete their studies and can behave in class. That's pretty much it, and true for most families. Good luck!

Most female teachers don't hate men and boys. Make sure you keep in contact with the teacher and talk to your kids about what is going on. Anything smells off, talk to the principle Principal, and make the right choice for your kids.

[–]Dis_mah_mobile_one 9 points10 points11 points 9 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Thanks for that. I live in the Midwest and so did my cousins so I've seen how bad things can get here. I don't think women as a whole are out to get me, I just think that there's no consequences for bad female behavior so we get more of it. My cousins exes weren't "bad", but both divorced my cousins, one after cheating on them. Both got cash and prizes, the house etc. Our current incentive structure reliably brings out the worst in femininity, and though I remain convinced that I can still find happiness with a (or several) women, I still have to keep that in mind.

[–]BigOldNerd 4 points5 points6 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

If you figure out how to find a good woman, please share. Going through a divorce. We are on the same page with caring for our kids at least.

I think I'll be just fine not having another serious relationship with a woman again. I'm probably pretty bias right now as the divorce wraps up, but I've gone on a few dates and thought to myself that I'd be totally fine not planning out and executing any more dates.

[–]Dis_mah_mobile_one 9 points10 points11 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I'm in my mid twenties. My trauma wasn't a divorce, but a false rape accusation my freshman year in college. Charges got dropped but the damage was done. So I'm not sure I have any advice but I'm here to listen if you need to vent.

As for "good women", there's no such thing. Women are women, that's all. Goodness in them is a matter of maintenance, both by society and the men in their lives, and though I completely understand you when you say that you don't feel the need for a serious relationship (juice not being worth the squeeze anymore), I think it'd be different if a better balance between the sexes could be reestablished.

[–]BigOldNerd2 points 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I'm sorry my man. I wish you the best of luck.

[–]Dis_mah_mobile_one2 points 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Thanks buddy, and the very same to you

[–]acearmv8 3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Sure, not all marriages end up in divorce but the chance is high. And once you go to divorce your wife holds the cards. The issue is not whether it will happen to you, the issue is that it could. If this were any other type of contract nobody would sign for it and would laugh at anyone that accepted those conditions as stupid. But because marriage 2.0 carries an special aura from the marriage 1.0, men go for it.

And I know that you as a married man prefer to believe that you'll be fine over being worried of the hypothetical, that's fair I understand it, but for someone who is not married it is worth considering. I personally want to have a wife and family, but it will be without the official government marriage contract.

Same here.

It's truly sad that "live and let live" is perceived as weakness and an invitation for any self-righteous moron to try and impose his way of thinking.

Contrary to Hollywood "turn-the-other-cheek", martyrdom image, Christians have historically been quite comfortable with violence.

On the other hand, your common SJW ... well, they're twice the apparent area of a standard silhouette target. Look to the US. Angry white men. Inbred rednecks. Deplorable racists.

Well, maybe, probably not. But they do have all the guns.

.

In Europe, 'violence' will probably be social, with a (by European standard) far Right wave in the coming years (it may have already begun), and oppressive notions like not getting any pay for wanting to teach feminist macrame.

[–]Flavius_Stilicho 6 points7 points8 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Contrary to Hollywood "turn-the-other-cheek", martyrdom image, Christians have historically been quite comfortable with violence.

My hobby is late roman history, so I am aware. The Book "The Closing of The Western Mind" is quite good describing both the physical violence and institutional pushback on "free thinking" that occurred. The parallels are obvious, only we are dealing with a secular "religion" this tine.

[–]BDMR_lurker 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]Pornography_saves_li -1 points0 points1 point 9 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

Youre an expert on 'militant and ridiculous' Christians are you?

Somehow, I think you know a lot less than you allude to...but you have bigotry in spades, that I can see from here...

[–]Flavius_Stilicho 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Yes, as a matter of fact i have studied early christian movements and their use of violence in late antiquity, particularly during the reign of Theodisius. I was raised catholic myself and have and respect a lot of deeply religious friends...but none of that changes the fact that the early christians were quite violent and shut down or destroyed pagan roman temples, aristotles philosphy schools, and what remained of the library of alexandria. St. Nicholas condoned many such acts.

[–]Pornography_saves_li 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

You fail to provide context. How violent was the world in general at the time? What avenues of recourse were actually available to any given political entity at the time? What were the reasons for any given action?

I make no excuses for barbaric behaviour, past or present. That said, I find nearly every criticism of Christianity incredibly hypocritical in that comparisons can never be made with other belief systems, somehow.

For example, is the current jihad in Syria that destroys temples, executes 'nonbelievers' on YouTube, etc, any better, or worse, than the Spanish Inquisition (which was itself the ass-end of the expulsion of 700 years of muslim invasion - much of which was abetted by Jews...which was why they were expelled from Spain...thus CC 'discovered' America)?

Will you condemn the Muslim faith, because they invaded Europe, burnt temples and libraries and killed scholars on a level widespread enough to cause what we call the 'dark ages'? Probably not. To quote Obama in his 'courageous' Easter prayer breakfast admonition to Christians...."Get off your high horse".

[–]Flavius_Stilicho 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Woah buddy. I am not "anti-christian." I have no high horse. But it well documented that the early christian church was violent and "converted" most of the roman world through violence, threats of violence or confiscation of property. I agree that the catholic monks in the "dark ages" kept the beacon of civilization going....but that does not make up for what the early Christians did. Hell, even St. Augustine wrote that violence was an acceptable means of conversion.

And yes, the world WAS a violent place back then....but the early christian church were not a bunch of pacifists. They fought tooth and nail to establish Christianity as the official religion of the empire, force it upon everyone else, and prohibited any philosophical intellectual pursuits that was not in line with the official dogma.

[–]Pornography_saves_li 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

But it well documented that the early christian church was violent and "converted" most of the roman world through violence, threats of violence or confiscation of property

As opposed to what? Islam?

I agree that the catholic monks in the "dark ages" kept the beacon of civilization going

...from the continued efforts of muslims trying to eradicate the knowledge.....dont forget to mention that...

And yes, the world WAS a violent place back then....but the early christian church were not a bunch of pacifists.

Who the fuck says they had to be? The only ones saying Christ was a pacifist are the same ones trying to tear down the Church....

They fought tooth and nail to establish Christianity as the official religion of the empire, force it upon everyone else, and prohibited any philosophical intellectual pursuits that was not in line with the official dogma.

Again, how is this different from any other religion? What about this singles out Christianity for criticism? My guess, if most other people are a guide....Christianity forbids something you like....

While not at all exhaustive, see:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christian_persecution_of_paganism_under_Theodosius_I

Also, read "The Closing of The Western Mind"

[–]Pornography_saves_li 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Wrong reply, lets try this again...

'Early Christianity' was, in my view, considerably different from the Political Christianity adopted by Rome. The Catholic Church was created via wholesale absorption of Sun worshippers' religion, including the use of their religious garb.

Churchianity, as opposed to Christianity, is not a new concept, and Rome canonized a Churchian type viewpoint...adopting virtually everything prescribed against in the Bible. That said, Christianity has had nothing if not a calming influence on civilization since its inception, fearmongering about Crusades notwithstanding.

[–]Flavius_Stilicho 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I don't disagree with your notion that Nicene Christianity was a re-branded take on the cult of Sol Invictus with Christian iconography and lexicon.

Constantine made Christianity the state religion but had issued an edict of toleration. Theodisius encouraged the violent suppression of paganism by said Christians.

[–]Pornography_saves_li 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Being unfamiliar with the succession myself, i assume Theodosius was Constantine's heir? If so, hardly surprising he pushed so hard, since Constantine was Christian about as much as your average Imam is today.

[–]Flavius_Stilicho 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Theodisius was a few after---after Constantine's son's had multiple civil wars and the goths destroyed the eastern army. Theodisius and the Bishop of Milan were ruthless in their persecution of paganism and Arianism.

[–]Pornography_saves_li 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

So...he was a weak Emperor, utilizing religion as a political force. By extension, Jesus must be a total asshole.

Are women leading the class? Did I miss that? Sounds like it's based on conversations with men.

[–]Flavius_Stilicho 8 points9 points10 points 9 years ago (34 children) | Copy Link

Hardly. It sounds like a bunch of feminist profs lecturing men about "appropriate displays of masculinity."

[+]lets--be--realistic points 9 years ago [recovered] (33 children) | Copy Link

Called the “Men’s Project,” the non-credit program aims to counter what some progressives refer to as “toxic masculinity” by talking to men about their troubled gender.

“The experience focuses on the examination of societal images, expectations, and messages around masculinity to empower men to better understand themselves, promote the advancement of gender equity, and raise consciousness in their communities,” it continues.

Sounds nothing like a lecture to me, and it sounds like it's fully driven by men. There's an enormous difference between men and "toxic masculinity," the latter of which I've seen people discuss in this sub all the time. It's the kind of stuff that leads to higher suicide rates for men and discourages them from seeking mental health help.

[–]Flavius_Stilicho 9 points10 points11 points 9 years ago (27 children) | Copy Link

How does that NOT sound like a lecture. I bet dollars to donuts that the class is nothing more than elaborate attempt to further feminize men and discredit, disparage, and modify behaviors to abolish traditional masculine qualities. It may be fully driven by men, may not.

"Toxic masculinity" is just newspeak for man = bad.

[+]lets--be--realistic points 9 years ago [recovered] (26 children) | Copy Link

If you want to assume the worst without reason, there is nothing I could ever to to convince you.

Good luck out there.

[–]majortom22 8 points9 points10 points 9 years ago (19 children) | Copy Link

Except if you look at the broader landscape there is definitely "reason" to believe so.

Incidentally, if this is about bettering people, why isn't there "Toxic femininity" available as a class too?

Hmmmmm

[+]lets--be--realistic points 9 years ago [recovered] (18 children) | Copy Link

They aren't thusly named, but they're out there. That's what women's studies classes cover, conflicting and negative definitions of femininity.

[–]majortom22 5 points6 points7 points 9 years ago (17 children) | Copy Link

I've taken women's studies classes in college.

They're coming at it from a completely different angle.

[+]lets--be--realistic points 9 years ago [recovered] (16 children) | Copy Link

I've also taken women's studies classes in college.

They included this angle. It was a longer course, so we also had other angles, such as literary portrayals and a discussion of masculinity. But it was still very much this.

[–]itty_bitty_beaver2 points 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

In passing, maybe. There is no toxic femininity courses, the phrase is by no means anywhere near parity in the literature, and it's rarely mentioned publicly except by MRAs, for the most part. Toxic masculinity is a direct byblow of Patriarchy Theory, so suggesting the female alternative gets anywhere near the same shrift is nonsensical.

Past participants shared this about their experience with the Men’s Project: “I realized vulnerability can be a choice you make actively. You can choose not to identify with certain types of masculinity and identify with parts you want to. I feel like when masculinity becomes a choice as opposed to something people are telling you to do, you live such a better life”

UW’s Men’s Project begins with an off-campus overnight retreat on Saturday, October 3rd and follows with six weekly 2-hour on-campus dialogues where there will be two cohorts of 10-14 students who identify as men , and each cohort will be led by two UW professional staff members.

Having worked in a few places that were mostly staffed by women, I can say that "toxic femininity" is a thing as well. I wonder how many programs there are to fight that...

Im wondering... whats the benefit. Better they take a class in just about anything else

[–]SpicyJim 5 points6 points7 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Normally I would agree, but this article has major holes.

The guy they interviewed who is supporting it seems to imply that the class' aim is to help males express themselves and their emotions. He mentions trying to examine why males have such high suscide rates. I think there are real issues that we should care about.

No one but the author is implying that masculinity is being taught as bad or that manspreading and mansplaing are issues or even involved in the curriculum. I think seems to me that this article is just trying to put it in a bad light.

[–]serial_crusher 6 points7 points8 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I agree that the article is one-sided, but there's also a lot of coded language in those quotes (and more in the source article) about "violence prevention". They're going to teach men not to be the evil rapists we were born to be.

Isn't this what this sub is all about? People paying attention to the negative expectations and stereotypes people impose on men? I don't see how it's bigotry if it's literally an attempt to tear down negative stereotypes.

[–]Dembara 22 points23 points24 points 9 years ago (113 children) | Copy Link

Because the program reiterates stereotypes and negative behavior. It claims men are over-represented in crime, because of masculinity. Which is provably minimal and/or false.

[+]lets--be--realistic points 9 years ago [recovered] (112 children) | Copy Link

The focus though is on toxic masculinity, which is different than masculinity in general. It's discussing the harmful stereotypes men face to mitigate them, not strengthen them.

I think if you've ever faced a ridiculous social norm or pressure due to being a man, you should know that this class will have something to talk about. Whether you think you'd want to be in the class is a different issue altogether.

[–]Qapiojg 16 points17 points18 points 9 years ago (46 children) | Copy Link

Toxic masculinity is a term fabricated in order to paint everything men choose to do as bad. It has a loose definition, same as patriarchy and other feminist terms, so that it can easily be shifted from reasonable to unreasonable.

[+]lets--be--realistic points 9 years ago [recovered] (34 children) | Copy Link

If that's what you believe, go to the class and discuss that. That's what it's for.

[–]Qapiojg 13 points14 points15 points 9 years ago (30 children) | Copy Link

That's not what it's for. Classes aren't for discussing ideas, they're for being taught ideas. The professor has the content and a position on said content, failure to regurgitate the talking points and a shared or acceptable position on those talking points results in failure of the course.

This is how all social justice courses go

[–]billy-_-Pilgrim -1 points0 points1 point 9 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

What are you talking about, theres so many classes meant to engage students without professors giving "answers" like a math class (but even math theory can technically change/added in a classroom).

A major point in the article is how mental illness in men is underrepresented, and its true! We cant talk about our feelings without being a bitch/pussy, I think that oughta change. I bet you five bucks if you took the class it would offer some pretty interesting perspective, maybe nothing that'll change your mind, but points to consider and shit.

Anyway thanks for reading take care.

I agree, but it "operates on a transformative model of social justice allyship." Which means they'll be peppering social justice and feminist bullshit throughout.

In addition, it's only open to men. This isn't a problem with men, it's a problem in society as a whole. So why would they only be giving the class to men?

All signs point to this being yet another class to preach social justice at men.

So your argument is shit, because the school itself says that its framed through social justice.

You forget men can only talk about their issues so long as it doesn't take away from women's issues.

No goalposts were moved, you latched on to the tangent like a retard. Go back up two replies, I quoted my main point word for word. Let's walk through it.

You:

If that's what you believe, go to the class and discuss that. That's what it's for.

Me:

That's not what it's for. Classes aren't for discussing ideas, they're for being taught ideas.

Followed by a tangential rant on social justice courses

You:

It's a non-credit course that meets once a week for six weeks.

Absolutely nothing to do with the previous two posts. You took part of that tangent and ran with it. Now that I'm calling you out on that and telling you to get back on the main train of discussion, you're saying I'm shifting the goalposts.

No, the goalposts aren't shifted because you decided to misinterpret a tangential argument.

[–]MadAlice89 4 points5 points6 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Your ignorance is impressive.

[–]Qapiojg 3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

So your stance is that men are perfect and there is no value in reflection?

Here's one of the bait and switches I was talking about in using the feminist terminology. You've now made the topic not about masculinity, but about men. This is the exact problem I have with the concept, because it never stays constrained to the actual issues present in society's expectations of men.

Toxic masculinity should be seen as those societal expectations of men, but as you've demonstrated they leave it so ill defined that it can easily be shifted to men rather than the expectations of men.

Also that everything that might be toxic about the way men are brought up is feminist rhetoric?

No, but this is feminist rhetoric. Which is why feminists love to throw the term around so much.

[–]Stewba -2 points-1 points0 points 9 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

[–]Stewba -3 points-2 points-1 points 9 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

You're not really making any. It's no feminists fault there is an issue with toxic masculinity. It deserves to be addressed and contrast to popular opinion (in this sub) woman are always challenging toxic femininity. They have movies, shows and articles about it all the time, the whole body image movement is what that is. In this department men have dragged behind, its only recently that we have encouraged this type of thinking for men at all. This has nothing to do with feminists and everything to do with bettering the self. Everything you are saying is just projection.

One could even say, like a "woman" you are reading far too much into this.

[–]nikdahl 9 points10 points11 points 9 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

What is and isn't "toxic" is subjective though. And that's my primary problem with it. For example, being "competitive" could easily be defined as toxic, when I see it as nothing even close to being toxic. Same with being assertive, or sexual, or other alpha traits. To some, those are toxic. To me, that's being a human.

When feminists start to demonize those traits in the abstract, but at the same time, women celebrate those traits in men in real life, then that's a problem.

[–]billy-_-Pilgrim 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]MadAlice89 5 points6 points7 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Except those stereotypes are harmful because society disallows deviations from the masculine while narrowing what counts as masculine.

That's not toxic masculinity. It's a lack of self awareness of what causes these problems and uses masculinity as a proxy for men who don't toe the feminist line.

[–]Dembara 9 points10 points11 points 9 years ago (38 children) | Copy Link

If toxic masculinity stereotypes are true, you'd be correct. They aren't. For example, they claim men are "overrepresented in acts of violence and use of drugs and alcohol" and attributes this to masculine stereotypes, rather than the actual cause (being the law and available support).

[+]lets--be--realistic points 9 years ago [recovered] (37 children) | Copy Link

I think you're just trying to be offended now. Instead of reading a salty article, look up what the Men's Project actually is:

"Men's Project creates a space for critical self-reflection and dialogue on what it means to be a man and how masculinity impacts our lives."

The course isn't based around those mentions that are bothering you so much. The point of the class is to discuss the issues you're bringing up, however. It's a forum for men to discuss maleness. If you're willing to discuss them here, I don't know why you'd be opposed to it in a classroom setting.

[–]Dembara 9 points10 points11 points 9 years ago (24 children) | Copy Link

I am not offended. I am not even annoyed by it. It's just going about it wrong. As I said, it uses false claims to explain how masculinity impacts our lives. I was quoting their page, not the article (it may have been in the article also, though.

It claims to bring them up, however any reading makes their preexisting views clear. Ones that are varifiably false. Those being views common among social justice spheres. Heck, they refer to male participants as social justice allies.

[+]lets--be--realistic points 9 years ago [recovered] (23 children) | Copy Link

Odd; I didn't see anything talking about men and crime on their website.

Regardless, if the class does as it promises (discuss messages around masculinity and how these messages have impacted men and our communities), I think it's a good thing.

If it's as biased as you're thinking, terrible. But if it does what it's designed to do (there really isn't much detail on their website, so I'm going off of what is there), it'll be helpful in getting men's issues a platform.

[–]Dembara 7 points8 points9 points 9 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

The aim of the project "is to ultimately prevent future violence," by addressing men, as it [falsely] claims "They’re also overrepresented in acts of violence and use of drugs and alcohol."

[+]lets--be--realistic points 9 years ago [recovered] (12 children) | Copy Link

Ah, I was looking on the pages for the project itself.

If you think men are appropriately represented in violence and crime, that's fine. I stick by my above point.

[–]Dembara 3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

They are not appropriately represented. The cause is not masculinity as they claim. It is the law.

[–]Unconfidence-1 point 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Do you not feel as though it's a little bit of both? I mean, this is just my personal experience, but I've met many more men prone to violence than women. I've seen much fewer barfights between women, and less women trying to become involved in violent crime. We can talk about why that is, but I think to say that the only thing causing male over-representation in crime statistics is the courts' willingness to consider men criminals is incorrect, and I doubt you think that.

[–]Dembara3 points 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

It is. But the split is 2:3, women to men. (meaning men commit 60% of domestic abuse). It also should be noted that 60-70% of battered women, initiated the physical conflicts, and less than half of battered men did the same.

The reason for the rest is biology. Women's brains are (by the physical makeup) more risk adverse than men. The believed cause of this is that men had to think more quickly when hunting (during caveman times) than women did when raising their children and whatnot.

[–]Unconfidence-1 point 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Domestic violence isn't all violence, though. I've been robbed at gunpoint several times, never by a woman. The DV stats may show parity but the majority of violent crimes are armed robbery and assault. These skew overwhelmingly male, and it's hard to argue that's courts showing leniency to women.

[–]Dembara3 points 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

YOu missed the point of the class. It's not to say that being a man is inherently bad. It simply seeks to expose some of the more detrimental situations that young men find themselves in when having their manhood called into question. Some of that can be traced back to violent crimes. Especially in low income areas where gangs rely on that type of manliness to coerce young men into doing something they otherwise wouldn't to become a man in their eyes.

Men shouldn't be afraid to show their emotions or feel gay for pursuing arts or less masculine careers. It's to further our understanding of the environment that men grow up in not to promote man hatred.

[–]Pornography_saves_li 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You feminists blew your credibility long ago. The only people you will recruit are the people nobody...male or female...has the time of day for. So, knock yourselves out, recruit social rejects and sexual losers to your hearts content...teach them to demand the world alter itself to suit their weaknesses too...no one will notice.

Except the people avoiding the indoctrination. Dropping out. Avoiding University. Avoiding large corporations. Avoiding women...

Keep doubling down. Its what you do. Because youre stupid followers doing what youre told. How you are still blind to how you affect the world is beyond me, but I concede cult behaviour can be extremely focussed.

Everyone hates you. We know your game, we dont believe a word out of your mouth, because you are so transparent youre almost invisible. Your agenda is weaksauce 'rebranded' feminism trying to hitch a ride on a dead mens movement (youre so out of touch you dont even know you just tried to mount a dead horse).

Hilarious. Keep killing the golden goose, ladies. Might as well, the Point of No Return sign was a few miles back....

[–]boringcarpets 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

And yet most child abusers are women and women aren't free from committing violent crimes... So where's the toxic femininity course? Women who don't have children or don't act feminine have their femininity called into question... Where's the course on toxic femininity? And so few gangs exist (poverty is to be looked at, not gender), it doesn't warrant a course.

YOu missed the point of the class. It's not to say that being a man is inherently bad.

Then why do they?

Men shouldn't be afraid to show their emotions or feel gay for pursuing arts or less masculine careers.

Then why do they face derision from women when they do? There's a story in this sub very recently of women actively trying to shut down centres for male victims of abuse. Who came up with #maletears? NOW campaigns against fathers and equal parenting. Again, where is the toxic femininity course?

It's to further our understanding of the environment that men grow up in not to promote man hatred.

promoting man hatred you say? So the core of feminism. If anything the importance of fathers and male role models should be taught, funny though, it isn't. Also laughable: "about men and being male..... By a woman"

[–]Stewba-2 points 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Toxic femininity is being addressed everyday in a verity of different ways, movies, TV shows mommy bloggers etc, ever seen Mean Girls, how about the body shaming issues that have been brought to light? Those are all about toxic femininity, woman studies courses do a lot of those types of things as well as spread incorrect rhetoric about wage gaps and such. Gender studies aren't without merit, when done correctly they bring understanding and acceptance to gender relations.

Feminism has been perverted but it's supposed to represent equal rights. It's not inherently about man hating. It's just swinging the other way.

All I can say for the course is that it could possibly consider a name change, but it deserves to and should exist as a way to provoke a conversation as to how we bring up our boys and how we can foster a better understanding as to what it means to be a man and a person in today's society.

This sub is as guilty as feminism for placing blame, it should be a place where we find solutions and hash out topics not an echo chamber pitting one sex against the other. There are more woman and especially mothers who are joining men's right advocacy groups which are concerned with both their boys exposure to some of the more detrimental aspects of "toxic" masculinity as well as the school systems which primarily cater to the way women learn leaving the boys behind.

We need a lot more understanding and a lot less finger pointing. Neither side is without flaws and critical reflection in an academic setting will help further both causes.

Toxic femininity is being addressed everyday in a verity of different ways, movies, TV shows....

Oh hey guys, apparently toxic femininity has been done and masculinity and men have never been addressed in these formats before. well you've gained a convert with that line of reasoning. Somewhere you're depriving a village

[–]Stewba1 point 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Yup downvote me for challenging you since you have nothing constructive to add. Well done

[–]boringcarpets1 point 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

What? Were you being constructive? All I read was a bunch of made up, hollow, wanky bollocks. You think, or want people to think, your educated or something, but you're not really, anyone over 16 can see through you and what you've written. Maybe it works with navel gazing pretentious types, but not so much with anyone with an ounce of actual intellect. So, "well done" can't really be applied to you, or what you've written

[–]Stewba1 point 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Well I don't have to pretend to be educated. You might since you clearly lack the capacity for provocative though. You believe anyone with a more developed view or a different perspective is a threat for some reason.

By the way thanks for making essentially the same post on 3 of my comment threads really puts you in the right and proves that your not a sexist retard.

Reddit is about the free flow of ideas. Step outside your red neck echo chamber for once.

[–]Stewba-1 point 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

So your stance is that we are perfect and time spent reflecting on the social norms of being a man is wasted.

How very irrational

[–]boringcarpets1 point 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Just stop pretending that the concept of "toxic masculinity" exists or is relevant. It's literally peddling hate and you know it, that's why people are against it

[–]Stewba1 point 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Hahah peddling hate and i know it? Im not being an aggressive dick, thats you responding to ideas you precieved as threatening.

So you don't think we should reflect on the social norms that are imposed upon our young boys? If your closed minded to any kind of change you are the problem.

The only one spreading hate is you. MRAs are working towards changing these norms already. In the larger context you are in the vast minority. So the next time you feel your manhood threatened in a bar and end up getting the shit kicked out of you because you allowed yourself to be baited by idiotic chants of " be a man" etc. During your expensive sit in the hospital waiting room, take a moment to reflect on what a pathetic Idiot you are and how your "toxic" masculinity has really served you.

Whose negative stereotypes?

[+]joepaulpavlin points 9 years ago [recovered] (60 children) | Copy Link

This pertains to men's rights how?

[–]Dembara 13 points14 points15 points 9 years ago (41 children) | Copy Link

The right for the sexes (including men) not to be discriminated against in education. I would say that includes not teaching one sex they're bad and another they're good.

[+]joepaulpavlin points 9 years ago [recovered] (40 children) | Copy Link

They are allowed to teach that, that is well within their rights. It might not be correct but it us a right they reserve. Are white people not allowed to take the course? That would be discrimination, teaching one group as bad isn't discriminating.

[–]Dembara 3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

The group bars women. I said how it pertained to rights, not that it was infringing on rights. I'd say it shouldn't be allowed by the university, but because of the falsehood of its claims, not what it teaches.

[+]joepaulpavlin points 9 years ago [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

If it bars woman than its discriminating and creating its own echo chamber which is garbage.

[–]Dembara 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yep.

[–]Pornography_saves_li 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (36 children) | Copy Link

teaching one group as bad isn't discriminating.

Huh? So the KKK dont discriminate? The NAZIs? Black Panthers?

Dude, teaching that a group is bad is the fucking definition of 'hate speech'....

Are you an extreme hypocrite, or extreme moron?

[+]joepaulpavlin points 9 years ago [recovered] (35 children) | Copy Link

That isn't the definition of hate speech. Just because we don't like the content doesn't mean its hate speech. It isn't discrimination either. I am glad you brought up Nazis. Teaching people Nazis are bad isn't discrimination against Nazis, it isn't hate speech against Nazis either.... that should be obvious to you. So it isn't all of the sudden hate speech or discrimination when that same teaching is applied to white people or jews.

[–]Pornography_saves_li 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (34 children) | Copy Link

Hate speech is speech that attacks a person or group on the basis of attributes such as gender, ethnic origin, religion, race, disability, or sexual orientation.

You know what let's play your game. Let's all woe is me and play the victim... Oh wait hate speech isn't a crime. You know what you keyboard dick shits are going to do about this university? Nothing. You won't stop them from exercising their right to host this. You won't apply a smidgen of pressure to stop them. Because your fight isn't about what's right or wrong its about you not liking it. Boo hoo. Let me know when the university crosses the line and actually takes the rights of men. Fucking losers pissing and moaning over rights while in the exact same hand trying to take the rights of others.

[+]WiWiWiWiWiWi points 9 years ago [recovered] (3 children) | Copy Link

I didn't speak to whether or not they have the right to teach the class. I spoke to the stupidity of your initial question.

Stop moving the goalposts.

[+]joepaulpavlin points 9 years ago [recovered] (2 children) | Copy Link

It's posted on men's rights, the sub is allegedly dedicated to the discussion of men's rights. This isn't a rights issue, it's whiny bullshit.

[+]WiWiWiWiWiWi points 9 years ago [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

So the damaging theory of "toxic masculinity" is not related to men's rights?

[+]lets--be--realistic points 9 years ago [recovered] (11 children) | Copy Link

Isn't it kind of the male equivalent of women's studies? One looks at the harmful portrayals and pressures women face; the other looks at the harmful portrayals and pressures men face.

[+]joepaulpavlin points 9 years ago [recovered] (10 children) | Copy Link

It doesn't matter what the course is about, I wouldn't argue its a course worth taking. I am simply arguing why is this posted on the men's rights sub? It isn't related to the rights of men. The university is well within its rights to make retarded classes for retarded students to waste money and time on. It could be the study of circlejerks (like this sub often gets itself into) and it would still be okay for them to do.

[+]lets--be--realistic points 9 years ago [recovered] (9 children) | Copy Link

I'm saying it does relate to rights of men if it's opening a dialogue about men's social issues. Probably doesn't need to a gen ed course or anything, but I can see it being relevant to those interested in gender studies and politics.

This sub has a lot to say about negative stereotypes of men and unfair social expectations — this seems like a step in the direction of tackling those issues.

[–]Pornography_saves_li 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

Might seem like it....to anyone not paying attention....but it isnt. Its just another way to shame and demonize men and masculinity. Because feminists hate men. And never miss an opportunity to show it....in an indirect way, of course...

[+]lets--be--realistic points 9 years ago [recovered] (7 children) | Copy Link

Really? Because I'm here, talking about how men's issues matter. While you call me a feminist, lash out in anger, and talk about feminist hatred.

The class is about men, so that's why it's not about women's issues. You can relax now.

[–]Pornography_saves_li 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

The class is about demoralizing and indoctrinating men into self hatred. Which is what the MRM was set up to combat. It might be 'about' men...in the way Patriarchy Theory is 'about' men, but it most certainly IS about advancing the feminist agenda.

As for 'relaxing' , bite me, you condescending bitch. I, and peole like me, have been attacked openly for decades. I have no time for pleasantries, especially with those who openly hate.

[+]lets--be--realistic points 9 years ago [recovered] (5 children) | Copy Link

You're doing all the attacking and the hating here, bud.

Feel like a victim if you want to; no one is going to stop you. But nothing in the class materials supports your theory that this is an evil class. It's just your personal bias. It's set up to allow men to talk about whatever plagues them about the idea or pressures of masculinity. No one who doesn't want the opportunity has to take it.

[–]Pornography_saves_li 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

So, you are teaching the class? If so, just do an AMA. As for 'voluntary', we all see the feminist definition ('voluntary' unless you want to pass...then its mandatory). We have seen countless 'voluntary' initiatives converted to mandatory to know you, and anyone connected with this course, are totally full of shit when saying it will remain so. You man hating bitches already force men to endure castigation as potential rapists and lowlifes as part of University 'frosh week'. You hateful fucking harpies cantry and keep lying. Most of us have heard it all before, many times, and know you are a lying sack of shit.

[+]lets--be--realistic points 9 years ago [recovered] (3 children) | Copy Link

I have not once said one bad thing about men throughout our conversation. Women are also not the force behind "frosh week." If you're going to continue hallucinating, do so elsewhere.

Have a good one. I hope you one day realize how misplaced your anger is.
