If this is typical or not, it is not evidence of such, as it's just a screen shot of one conversation.
It's also worth noting whether they know it or not, divorce lawyers make more than the women a lot of the time.
[–][deleted] 101 points102 points103 points 11 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
This isn't even a screenshot. This is a complete circlejerk that brings nothing to the table in terms of men's rights.
[–]Xanthan81 32 points33 points34 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
This. I mean, what's the source? I could make something like this in Photoshop in a couple of minutes. They didn't even make it look like it came from anything.
Of course, I would still be a bit wary if it looked like it came from Facebook or somewhere similar because you can fake those too. I believe there is even a website dedicated to making fake Facebook screencaps.
So, this is equivalent to just saying, "My friend heard from her uncle who heard from his neighbor's mother..."

Not only does it not help us, it hurts us. For every critic that says MR is just a bunch of unthinking misogynists, posts like these only prove them correct.
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Absolutely agreed. I dislike making generalizations but this group seems to focus soley on stuff like this and not the reasons I initially decided to subscribe.
[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
This seems fake to be honest.
[–]dyse85 12 points13 points14 points 11 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
trust me, this is not an isolated incident, this is financial planning. it's a bad time to get married as a man. and you're right the divorce lawyers may get paid more than the wives, but at least they had to earn it.
[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
It's not an isolated incident because it's not an incident at all. For it to be an incident, it would have to be real, which it has been proven not to be every single fucking time it gets posted here.
[–]dyse85 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
before i moved i had a very close friend who's ex-wife came up dirty for meth and cocaine on random UA's on a regular basis, while the divorce was underway and had been in and out of rehab most of her life... still had full custody of the kids. and with child support and alimony she was taking home 44k out of his 70k a year, she had no job. and in order for my friend to have PARTIAL custody he had to quit drinking and submit random UA's and breathalizers for that. he wasn't a heavy drinker or anything like that, just a beer after work, and not violent at all in the four years i'd known him. so no, i don't feel this is an isolated incident, of course i don't hate women (maybe distrust) but the divorce courts are on their side, no doubt about that.
while a story of a friend may not hold much water...
i was dating a girl for about a year and a half and been living with her for 5 months, she tried to get a "divorce" as a common law marriage, luckily it turned out to be 6 months living together and none of the bills were under her name so i wasn't nailed for anything. but i'm sorry, that's financial planning man, and i'm just one of the lucky guys that didn't get nailed to the wall.
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
No doubt the alimony system is fucked. No doubt that men get screwed over in divorces an awful lot. But OP's submission remains a fake. That's all I'm trying to argue right now. There are plenty of real examples, we don't need to go making up fake ones, or falling for obvious fakes time and again.
[–]dyse85 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
i'll concede to that, after reading through it again it is clearly fake or at the least unreliable.
Yeah, the entire MenGoingTheirOwnWay movement strikes me as a lot of heartbroken guys who'll change their mind given enough time.
I love the crap out of my girlfriend and she returns it. She thinks a prenup is ridiculous but she's still totally willing to sign one.
And we don't even plan to ever get married...
[–]ErasmusMRA 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
It's very obviously fake and written by men.
[–]double-happiness 59 points60 points61 points 11 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link
Yeah, sorry, but I call BS on the whole thing.
I searched "Full share? Not in Texas, it's a non alimony state" (in quotes) and couldn't find any hits for the original source of the supposed exchange. The #1 hit in Google is Stormfront, FFS. The source for the copy pasta is http://www.nomarriage.com/, a completely commercial site with ads for dating, diet supplements for bodybuilding, and eBooks. About as far away from a credible source as you could get.
I think this supposed exchange is 'illustrative' and 'hypothetical', at best.
"Our survey said..."
[–]IHaveALargePenis 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
This doesn't work on sites like reddit or facebook. So although you couldn't find it doesn't necessarily prove it doesn't exist.
[–]double-happiness 4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Good point, I hadn't really thought about that. Still, it doesn't do our credibility great favours to be discussing random exchanges on the internet that may or may not have happened. I'd like to see discussions of marriage here, but we need better starting points than this.
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
For the number of times this picture has been posted here, and the number of times that anybody has been able to find any kind of source (zero), I feel quite safe in calling bullshit on this.

Of course.
[–]LaughingTrees 16 points17 points18 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

But you never can tell.
[–]breakwater 55 points56 points57 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
You can tell. It's an unsourced "conversation" that only works to fit an exact worldview that supports MR beliefs. It should be treated with extreme skepticism. That does nothing to undermine what MR believes, but it sure as hell helps our credibility.
[–]Lightfiend 4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
It's an unsourced "conversation"
That's a reason to be skeptical and probably dismiss this conversation - it doesn't however make you able to "tell" if it's actually a parody or not. People can be really manipulative and say some really outrageous things sometimes (especially when love and relationships are involved) - I wouldn't put anything passed anyone.
[–]5th_Law_of_Robotics -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I agree that anything without a source should be suspect (and it does seem a bit too perfect).
That doesn't mean it's a parody or otherwise made up.
It does mean I won't make any conclusions based on it without a source.

I am in love with my SO and want to marry her, is that bad? Is being alone my whole beret than being happy with someone who is always there for me? We both pay bills and for dates equally, but she cooks and cleans. that's unequal to my benefit.
[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
That's because you're not married yet. Once you're married, she'll give you hell about her doing more chores than you, despite it being her choice.
[–]MeEvilBob 17 points18 points19 points 11 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
"Emotional Rape", huh, that's a new one, she can scream at you and degrade and devalue you entirely as part of her rant, but if you say anything back, now even that is rape apparently.

Stay single and spend my money and time on myself? That sounds like a miserable, selfish way to live my life. I'd rather just find a wife who respects my rights and signs a prenup with me. Someone who doesn't expect me to pay for her stuff. Someone who treats me more like her equal and less like her daddy or her employer.
Yeah, she exists somewhere. I can't give up hope that lovable people exist.

Here's an illusion that needs to be dispelled: the value of a pre-nup.
Pre-nups do not help. Judges commonly throw them out.
A second illusion: she will never change.
She can seem like the most loving and respectful woman, and then in ten years be an ice queen ruthlessly trying to eviscerate you.

[–]THEAdrian -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago* (8 children) | Copy Link

[–]THEAdrian 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
Didn't word it right, what I should have said is "It's not so much that they DO this, is that they CAN."
Men can think like this all they want, but good luck taking a woman for all she has in divorce court, the woman wins that battle almost every time. This is why women have conversations like this one, because they know that it benefits them.
[–]mtm5891 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
All right. Thanks for clarifying.
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago* (3 children) | Copy Link
They could if she were particularly wealthy and he made significantly less money. I know if my husband and I were to divorce, I'd almost certainly be the one paying alimony. Thankfully that won't be the case because a) we're definitely not getting divorced, and b) he thinks alimony is as stupid as I do.
[–]THEAdrian 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I was under the impression that this is about child support, not alimony (or at least a combination of the two).
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Child support is completely different. Most people here would be fine with child support if it were reformed to reasonable levels, and if men were offered the chance for financial abortions during the period when women can get medical abortions. Supporting your child is one thing, supporting a full grown adult just because you lived with them for a while is quite another.

im in the military and I see this often..VERY OFTEN! some guys are so broke afterwards they can barely cloth of feed them selves. the sad thing is for the most part its not because of infidelity ont he guys part that they get divorced. (adultery is a violation of the UCMJ, not saying it doesn't happen but its not as common from the military member as it is from the dependopotamus) Then the ex-wives are ruthless and take every single dime the member has...i know a guy who his wife cheated on him...she wanted a divorce and she is taking him to the cleaners for everything he is worth and she is getting granted it all...and her uncle is her lawer..and my friend has to pay for all the legal fees...they even tried to go after his Per diem from a TDY(tempory duty..away from his home base...per diem is used to shelter and feed you) Whats so sicking is a lot fo woment talk this way when they get together...they know the system is in their favor and they know the time requirements...and they wait it out then drop a bomb just like they said.. and alot of military men get prayed upon and women go after their retirements...Its sickening and disgusting...and no one should ever treat a another human being that way.

man my 8 years of military I have easily over 100 (extremely low balling this number) stories I could tell as well as a personal one. I'm sure you could too. Almost every damn time it's something the woman did, but the guy gets fuuuucked. It's sad. Agreed.
Tell me, is it bad like this in all of America? I'm European & the stories I read on here (yours included) just make me sad & disgusted. Tell me, is it like "just some states" that have really biased laws, or is the majority of country, sorta on the same level as Europe (when it comes to divorce, child support, alimony, etc). Because I've noticed that you guys states that are nightmarish (& not just in regards to mens rights), & some that sound perfectly reasonable. Is it that bad in in the ENTIRE COUNTRY? Or is it just a few states (usually it's the southern states) that are still giving America a bad reputation?
[–]tsymnoimad 6 points7 points8 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
i think some states arent that bad. But most are this bad. The stereo type with southern states is they are are all a bunch of Drunk toothless idiots with no sophistication..which is untrue...though there are a few that perpetuate the stereo type it isnt true for the majority.. but i can tell you almost all women are are very aware of the systems being set up to benefit them.

Well, in the south, the people in urban areas tend to skew more reasonable and less slack-jawed. At least from my experience of living in various parts of the south. Going out into the rural areas can be a crap shoot though.

While I have lived in a few southern states, I used to live in southern Missouri, and that was probably the worst as far as ignorance goes. I lived in an extremely rural portion of the ozark mountains in a town of about 10 people (somewhat near a town of about 200 people mind you). It was not uncommon to actually see someone that looks like this... Farmer Fran
... drinking moonshine they just dug up, while feasting on some squirrel or other roadkill.
The school was all one room, and ass paddling was very common. We were taught all faith based curriculum (even though it was a publicly funded school).
If you pissed off the town folks, as people passing through sometimes did, you disappeared for good. The local sheriff knew everyone and wouldn't give two shits when some outsider would come up "missing in the woods".
It was a scary place in how separate it seemed from the realities of civilization. It was a place with a lot of dark secrets.
EDIT: I just wanted to mention that there wasn't a single black person living within 30 miles of us, and that was no mistake.

The socially conservative states tend to have the worst divorce and family laws, because gender roles are huge there. Women are seen as the nurturing homemakers and men are the financial providers. Women can't possibly care for themselves so the men need to care for them.
Want to see family values and gender roles (which are of course reflected in the law) severe enough to make you want to vomit? Head over to Utah, the worst of the bunch.

First off we see a generalization about what "your future wife" will be doing in the future, which if not blatantly sexist is at least making several large assumptions. Then underneath there is a bizarre conversation that can't be verified, isn't typical, and doesn't do anything for anyone other than piss people off. Then underneath you post a rage face and a suggestion to "stay single and spend your money and time on yourself." Wow, no wonder the feminists hate us, I'd hate us too if this is the sort of shit I saw associated with men's rights all the time.
What we have, without exaggeration, is a bitter suggestion to live alone and be fiscally selfish based on your own preconceived assumptions about a person you haven't even met yet based on their gender. I can't help but see that as sexist.
[–]VictoryDeluxe 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

In traditional societies women only really participate in small roles, usually as wives, mothers, home makers, and menial jobs. This varying a little from place to place.
The trade off, you get no say, the bonus, no one is going to mercilessly slaughter you, nor are you required to put yourself in harms way.

Women do not have the same loyalties that men have, and my message is imperative to the feminist white knight MRAs here that believe in fairy tales because they lack experience with women.

dudebro, I hate those MRA white knights who worship women and only claim to be MRA's for the karma

No, in fact it's not that hard at all. You keep the arguments geared towards equality and the fact that laws as they are give an unfair and abused legal bias towards women in many areas such as support, custody, allegations of domestic violence and rape, and others.

His own immense personal experience obviously </sarcasm>
Yes, there is a weird sublet (maybe even a majority now) of MRAs here they promote a gender neutral philosophy. They denounce masculinity and femininity and buy into feminist philosophy and dogma, but reject the feminist movement.
Then they turn around and complain that they can't cry and be weak as a means of justifying their victim-hood.
They literally are the feminist equivalent with a penis, it is very sad to see.

Yeah...
I'm just going to let the collective downvotes you are getting speak for themselves at this point. Good luck with that whole manhoodacademy mentality. The rest of us? We'll just be over here trying to get equal representation and legal footing.

Totally, that's why no relationship ever lasts and people never grow old together. /s

What are you talking about?
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
Women do not have the same loyalties that men have
If this were true nobody would ever stay together until death.

Key word: same.

Because women are always looking for an opportunity to jump ship and fuck over as many men as possible.

This is legitimate, I saw the original post years ago. It was on an internet forum, site probably does not even exist anymore.

The name of the forum might help us here...
[–]surilamin 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
It was years ago, don't remember, was linked off 4chan. Back when /b wasn't that popular.
Never forget that people can justify any time of horrible behavior. In the first post, she is pregnant and happy. Then her friends tell her to look out for her own financial interests and all of a sudden she is plotting the optimal way to financially rape her husband, who is already being screwed over and working his ass off to support her + his ex.
If this is fake, then fine, although I do know some situations that are similar. My gf's dad had a son with his ex who hasnt worked a day in her life. The two (the father and the son) are really great together, but he doesn't even have visitation rights, so once in a while, maybe twice a year, the mother will allow them to see each other, but that is all. It's infuriating because they basically live in poverty, off of solely what they can buy with the dad's child support. If she worked too and also received the CS, then he could probably have had a pretty decent childhood, with more than frozen dinners.

The pyramids weren't built by slaves. They were built by well-paid laborers who were provided with healthy food and plenty of water, medical care, good housing to live in during their 3 month shifts, and given honorable burials in stone tombs near the pyramids where the pharaohs lay. Such honors and provisions would never be given to slaves.
