When I was in film school one of my projects was shown to the grad students, I had a lot going for me, fit in with the more successful people in the department.

I now work in the media industry and get complimented fairly regularly.

If you’re a man who is starved for compliments it’s because you need to step your game up and actually do something worth being complimented on.

This fucking obsession with compliments completely baffles me. Y'all don't have moms? Siblings, friends, nephews, coworkers, etc.? Partners have never complimented you ever? Like, what are y'all crying about. That no one has ever stopped you in the middle of the street to tell you the colour of your eyes reminds them of a late summer sunset?

I used to give everyone lots of compliments all the time. I still do give quite a few compliments because I don't have much of a filter so if I like something, I'll say it. Unfortunately, so many men thought that I was flirting with them. Multiple friendships became awkward. They would be aggressive with their advances. They would be mad that I 'led them on'. I hate it, but I have learnt to watch myself when complimenting men. I wonder if any other women have had a similar experience.

Also, all the guys I know compliment each other fucking loads. Normally it's reciprocal, try giving out some compliments to your mates and see what happens.
