Hard to say. In my experience, most of the bosses I've had have been women, and most of the bosses above them have been men.

I was raised in a certain environment, in a certain time period, watching certain media, and that shaped my worldview towards women a certain way. Overcoming those ingrained biases has been... challenging.

I don't believe it's systemic but I do think it runs in families. For example, a parent that holds sexist views and imparts them to their children because they think they're doing them a service.

I think we are in a transitional stage. Systemic misogyny was the way in the West for a very, very, very long time. Our societies have been working to fix that, but something that old doesn't disappear over night. Aspects of the system desperately cling on to life and remain.

There's parts of American society where women are discriminated against and parts where men are.

But no there isn't universal country wide institutional sexism. It's worth keeping in mind though that the new thing for women is to blame men's issues on misogyny as well

I find Misandry much more systemic. The Justice System (divorce, child custody, alimony, criminal justice) vastly favors women. Also, only men have to register for the draft to get basic citizen rights. The government also has special programs and more funding for women, and no specific programs for men. Institutionally, the US government favors women over men.

Misogyny is real for sure but it's not systemic, as it has too much action taken against it and women get tons of aid and support in Western nations, whereas men get next to nothing.

Well you pretty much covered it. Misogyny exists in individuals but not on a meaningfully systemic level. Most major organizations (academia, government, corporations) provide more incentives, benefits, guarantees, protections to women than men. It doesn't make sense to think society is systemically misogynist when it's obviously gender biased towards women on an "official" level.

The definition of these words are so loosely used these days that Im not even sure the meaning outside of context. This notion that some people demand to be respected simply for being alive in itself is an odd idea Im often baffled by. Some people are brilliant, amazing and talented, while others are lazy, corrupt, and horrible. This applies to male or female. I think respect should be valued when its earned and maybe its over simplified to label it mysogyny, misandry or bigotry. Maybe this is masking a greater movement of "shitty" people in society demanding respect they did not earn.

Systemic misogyny really only exists in the business world. Women were not obligated in the last 5000+ years to protect and provide for the men in her life (sons, brothers, fathers, grandfathers). That was a man’s burden and obligation for millennia in many cultures and nations.

For example, by the age of 20, British artist Louis Wain was responsible for protecting and proving for his five (5) sisters and mother.

This misogyny is rather normal and dare say JUSTIFIED. Why? Because women were fine with being infantilized for the last 5000 years because their welfare was prioritized to the same level of a new born infant; Which , by the way, is still a social “law” today under all this Feminism.

Does the “Women and children first” ring a bell?

As for the systemic politically correct misandry, stems over a modern women’s entitlement to keep the benefits, of say, 1950 US culture (such as been seen as helpless when it suits them) and the benefits a man has (without the drawbacks of being held responsible for your own safety and the safety of others). For example, women feel entitled to not be subject to the violence from a man (but 100% okay from a woman) just because of that 1950’s part of the culture that a man should not strike a woman.

If we are to achieve a true egalitarian world, the ladies need to begin facing the world with the same harsh realities men face. The current “everything bad a man does to a woman is misogyny” is not addressing the real issues and just continues to infantilize a feminist woman.

I think that misogyny is ingrained in male DNA and the desire to control women's bodies and ensure paternity. The laws that are created are in place so that we treat women as fellow human beings rather than revert to our primitive natures, which are probably not the most productive ways for us to live as humans.

Misogyny is a concept that was born with the idea that men and women are equal, which mind you is a great goal to achieve, but may lack empirical data.

We may well make a case on every other "ism" that exists out there, like racism. It does exists, in our minds, but we also need to understand that it comes from the modern ideas and secular moral that shape the way we see the world, that weren't prevalent at all in the past.

Just think about it. There are people living among us, hell we must have some of them here on PPD probably, that lived in a time where races were segregated.

If I remember well, the Apartheid ended in the 80's.

I was born in 89' and I'm not even that old mdfk!

My grand grandpa was an ol' italian man who fought along with the Axis (no shit) and I remember as I was a child, diving into long convos with him on how I should respect life and respect animals and plants because "every life is valuable, as it is unique".

That man killed 37 other men, shit you not, as I came to know from my grandfather the night the old man died. He said he only spoke once about the war with him and said "I know the Lord won't forgive me for what I've done, but still you gotta do what you gotta do".

That people lived 70 years ago.

That's a fucking life span.

Imagine how the people who lived 100 years ago thought. What about 200 years? What about 500?

They came from an absolutely RUTHLESS world that looked NOTHING like the one we know, and while that does not excuse their behaviour, explain why they thought the way they did.

And that people built our societies from scraps, the systems we live in, the beliefs that were passed to us, our morals, our laws, our ethics and religions, even the way we look at science...

I would like to think we are making some progress here you know. I sometimes doubt it judging by the general state of some communities around the world... But I would like to hold some hope for mankind and think we are going the right way.

And it is good that misogyny has come up, has been brought as a concept from our civilized minds and gets visibilized.

Because if we strive to live in a peaceful world where everyone is happy and live happy, fulfilling lives, women deserve respect too. They are our sisters, our mothers, our friends, wives and daughters after all, right?

Would you like to opress your female relatives and friends? I don't think any sane man even entertains those ideas...

And that's why I don't believe misogyny is institutionalized. And I don't think it ever was TBH.

The source of man-woman inequality is not in our societies, and our ideas. It's in nature, in fact.

The only difference in misogyny not being visibilized in gorillas societies VS our societies being against misogyny, after all, lays in our evolved comprehension of what being a human is.

Misogyny doesn't exist for gorillas, because they can't figure a word for it.

Also, I strongly believe the male mind being "shapped" to act only in a logical frame didn't help with women's freedoms in the past too.

The most misoginystic cultures of all in the ancient times, those of the roman and greeks for example, were often the most evolved societies of their times, and some of the most insightful, smartest, brilliant men in mankind, those men we deem as "our greatest geniouses" today, were extremely misoginystic in essence, like Plato, Nietzsche, Socrates, Engels, Archimedes, Makiavello, Marx, Eidegger or even Freud or Foucault or the likes of Da Vinci and Michael Angello...

There is something as "too much logical thinking may throw you out of your humanity".

Because, lets face it...

In light of logical thinking, there is no such thing as good or bad, right or wrong. The world just is.

And if you follow the rabbit hole deep enough, you may start to think some humans are just more capable, more suitted, in short, "better" than others... And thus, more deserving.

And we already know how that story ends.

It's like if our societies were compossed of "stages" or levels just like the human brain? You know, lizzard level, mammal level, then human?

But instead, the rational societies here come before the humanist societies.

This furthers my theory that humanism, tho may not seem to follow "logical" paterns in some of its ways, it's the byproduct of societal logical a rational deep exploration and, thus, the next step in the human evolution.

Thing is, as women gain their own place in our societies, men are still trying to figure out how to do it right, at least foe once in our history.

And that's something really good dude, it's something trully commendable.

And that's the reasson why feminism doesn't fly well with me.

I see the constant mainstream media struggle between men and women as an extreme regresion of what could be a natural, more relaxed and even faster progress into more humanitarian societies.

Because in reality, we are not here because of feminism. Feminism is the result of men self-correction.

And when I look around all over the western world and see extremist right wing, racist, sexist parties rising up everywhere, I gaze a glympse of the male "uber-rational" mind trying to break out as a reflex reaction to being punished by past mistakes and being tosed around.

And what is the societal reaction to this? More backlash.

Dude, I feel like we're adding fuel to the fire here... Just saying, don't kill the messenger.
