It highlights his complete lack of real 'alpha-ness', he's a puppet who was propelled to victory by the political establishment and mainstream media. A guy who marries his teacher who's twenty years older than him cannot lead a presidential campaign to victory without some strings being pulled behind the scene.

We don't think about it much. The press like to gossip about it, but most people in France don't care beyond the occasional joke.

Personally it's not for me, but they are both educated, successful, mature and articulate people who seem happy and in love, so who am I to judge. I don't think I can analyze this through a "pill lens." He was a brilliant student and now he's a powerful politician. He was never going to be an average guy. His relationship is unusual, but so is everything else about him.

It's weird. He was 15 when they met so she had some pretty strong hold over him when he was immature and still developing. That's never going to sit well with me. It's just as weird as if the genders were reversed. Don't think it has much to do with how he will govern France, as I don't believe a politician's personal life matters too much....

I think it's odd. Brigitte is a total GILF though. Macron thinks if you think his relationship is odd you are a misogynist or homophobic (?). I have a feeling he is sexually submissive and she is a Dom.

Sounds like her maturity and support has helped propel him to the highest office in France.

Sounds like she was good for him. Had he been tied down supporting a young wife and kids, he might have not gotten anywhere.

It doesn't sound like a case of grooming at all. He was a 16 year when they met, and he pursued her over the next few years, not the other way around. Highly unusual and wouldn't usually work out, but for them it did.

Well, for starters I think both have issues. Him for going after a women who could be his mom and sticking to her, and her for going along with this. Personally, I have to admit that I would actually be relieved if it turned out that the rumors that he's a closeted gay and she's his beard were true - because this would still reflect better on him than the story we get now.

But what pisses me off more is how elated our oh-so-progressive press is about this oh-so-courageous and oh-so-emancipated relationship setup. I wonder whether they would be similarly understanding if Macron suddenly started dating a girl 24 years younger.
