Suits and dresses are two entirely different things. Yeah you can change the shirt and tie but other than that, the suit stays the same. Also, people on the news tend to stick with dark blue or black suits. Men usually have what, like 3 suits maximum? Tell me if you can easily notice the difference between 3 different suits unless you’re looking at him in person. Whereas dresses are so varying that it is very easy to notice when one is repeated. Not to mention a whole suit costs so much more than the average dress.

Also, you said nothing regarding his point that girls usually make it a big deal, not guys. Did he say anything about the demographics of who was saying those things? Now don’t get me wrong, I personally couldn’t give a shit if they wear the same clothes but it’s not an apples to apples comparison.

Well, black people are over-represented (higher proportion of black people winning acting Oscars than black people in the population) in acting Oscar wins (and that's with there being basically none until the last couple decades) because Hollywood has a weird fetish with casting as many black people as possible.

The real under-represented races in Hollywood are Asian and Latino actors since they are a huge portion of the population and almost never present at the Oscars. No one talks about how racist and stereotyped the roles are for these groups and yet people still only really talk about "diversity" when it means more black people. There was a lot of anti-black hiring policy in the past but now it seems like there are tons of amazing leading roles without the expected racial stereotypes in the character, but not if you are Asian or Latino.

Why would I argue about racism in a professional setting and use my own life experience as anecdotal evidence if I were talking about another country. I think you're focusing too much on the suit. I'm pretty sure there are lots of people and places that still judge people by the color of their skin. This is obviously conjecture, but aren't there still deep pockets of racism in the southern US states? I'm not saying we're still living in the Jim Crow era, but racial minorities do have a harder time in many parts of the world. For example, here in Canada there is still a huge amount of animosity towards indigenous people. The situation is different, of course, when you factor in tax-exempt status, reservation laws, and the substance abuse rates in Native communities, but the underlying issue (that many people believe it is in their nature to be vagrant alcoholics and drug addicts) remains the same. I think there can even be a comparison drawn with black ghettos in almost every major US city. Racism is very real, and just because you may have been largely unaffected by it doesn't mean it isn't. That's just survivor bias, I think.

Edit: Furthermore, you really don't see anything wrong with one of your previous statements that "some racism is a non-issue"? That's just defeatist, and giving a pass to the people who would treat others poorly based on the colour of their skin. No racism is ever okay, and the moment that we look the other way, the racists win.

I don’t know, I don’t know the hard facts. I only know what I have experienced. I believe due to biological reasons, such as the desire to protect females more being ingrained into everyone, women are likely to face sexism.

And men don't? Isn't the very idea that men must be the protectors sexist towards men? Being expected to protect the meek and mild, women and children first, male only draft, expected to be the bread winner, the provider. We both have disadvantages and at this current moment in time due to the modern feminist movement, from my perspective at the very least it seems what many more so on your side (im assuming youre left wing feminist but i obviously dont know for sure but) do is attempt to give themselves more rights and privileges without being expected to deal with equal responsibility.

Because of that, men are less likely to be focused on, therefore men are also likely to have their problems ignored because of their gender, so that’s also sexism.

I'd argue that men are less likely to be focused on due to a number of different things. Id agree that what you brought up is one of the reasons but because of the feminist narrative of males having more inherit privilege than females I'd say in recent years that type of narrative has been the cause of it. I mean the metoo movement barely involved males despite male rape being just as prevalent as female rape if you count prison statistics and the number of rapes that go unreported due to fear of social ostracism. Feminism is practically useless in western society. We should be focusing on egalitarianism to solve the issues of both genders and all races/sexual orientations.

I said I don’t know the facts. Yes, the idea that men should be the protectors is sexist in most cases. From my perspective, a lot of things like “men should protect women” are also sexist against women. Male only draft is sexist against women. Women are too “meek” to work and need to be the stay at home mothers, need to stay at home instead of protecting their country etc. Of course the guys are the ones actually getting physically hurt by the issues.

You might think that feminism is a wide spread phenomena and that’s a half truth. So many southern mothers say to their girls “you gotta find a nice man and give me some grandkids.” Many people are still incredibly sexist to women (especially out in the country), but you just don’t see it.

Feminists nowadays want to stop the draft/make it women too since it’s unfair for guys to do it alone.

Actual feminism isn’t the “Feminist gets REKT” or the “hey guys, look at this feminist argument I’m about to debunk” videos. If you actually go to feminist subreddits, and ask “do you think male prison rape is an issue?” Or any of the other issues you’ve brought up, they will say “of course, what the hell were you thinking we’re going to say?” And they’re also usually against circumcision, prison rape etc etc. Even YouTube feminists reach out to non-feminists to collaborate on boys issues sometimes. There are so many issues out there, it’s hard to focus on things you don’t experience. Hence why women tend to focus on things they actually experience.

Also, that rape stat you said. Does it take into account female prison rape? Because that happens as well.

And metoo wasn’t just about the quantity of rape, it was about posting your experiences with it. Men could post about it, but men in prison don’t tend to have twitter on them. Terry Cruz talked about his metoo moment and other men did as well, you just didn’t see them since there was way less.

I can understand getting annoyed that we’re not focusing on the serious men’s issues, but at the same time making any social progress is way better than non. Eventually the men’s issues will be sorted out. I’d rather feminists exist and push for change than not.

Feminists just have different information to you. Everyone has a father, brother, husband, boyfriend. No one wants them to hurt. Men’s issues are important to women. Feminism is a great way to get woman together thinking about our society.

I said I don’t know the facts. Yes, the idea that men should be the protectors is sexist in most cases. From my perspective, a lot of things like “men should protect women” are also sexist against women. Male only draft is sexist against women.

You keep spewing out the word sexism to the point where it literally has no meaning anymore. Within this conversation everything to you is sexism and you only seem to care or mention sexism against women while only conceding there's sexism against men when I push you to acknowledge it. You might think that feminism is a wide spread phenomena and that’s a half truth. So many southern mothers say to their girls “you gotta find a nice man and give me some grandkids.” Many people are still incredibly sexist to women (especially out in the country), but you just don’t see it.

I see it, I see it plenty. I just don't think your solutions to it are the answer. Censorship? Harassment and demonizing people for having a different opinion? Calling people racists or sexist without even attempting to grasp the other persons perspective? Pushing legislation that only helps women? Feminism has created an us vs. them mentality and in its current form it is doing more harm than good. If you want to end racism, sexism, and all the other "ism" buzzwords it starts with education and the spreading of acceptance and tolerance within our youth. I know you don't see it because you're one of them, but that has been my experience every single time I engage with one of you people. Even YouTube feminists reach out to non-feminists to collaborate on boys issues sometimes. There are so many issues out there, it’s hard to focus on things you don’t experience. Hence why women tend to focus on things they actually experience.

I am neutral "in my idea of you." The feminist movement is a different story. I'm an atheist and I understand not every Christian is against gay rights, but I still am vehemently against Christianity as a concept due to that kind of anti-tolerant rhetoric the concept itself contains and advocates.

Men don’t have to deal with a lot of things women deal with. Women don’t have to deal with a lot of things men deal with. This is a “male privilege” now?

I am a woman and I think this “male privilege” shit is absolutely asinine. Men don’t have to deal with catty, bitchy women laughing at them for wearing an outfit twice, sure, maybe not, even though I’d argue that many men do experience this. But, here’s a thought: if you’re so insecure as a woman that you literally cannot even wear your clothes on multiple occasions for fear of other women’s comments, get help.

Men don’t have to deal with this weird wardrobe debacle that’s apparently a big deal, sure. But, I would argue women in the US, which is where I live actually benefit from real and far more abundant privilege. Women have more access to domestic violence shelters, as well as shelters in general, parenting resources for moms (WIC is one example; stands for “Women, Infants, and Children), women are given less harsh prison sentences or less harsh punishment for crimes, in general, women are over-represented on college campuses, women are overall less likely to take jobs in hostile and dangerous working conditions (electricians, plumbers, maintenance workers, waste management employees, etc.) and an abundance of small privileges here and there that women benefit, like the ol’ cops-give-tickets-to-guys-but-not-women thing which, in my personal experience, has been true more often than not.

I don’t believe in this “male privilege” shit because each gender experiences privileges, yet we don’t call the privileges that women benefit from “female privilege”, even though I believe we benefit from far more than men do. I may experience more privilege than someone who is staying in a homeless shelter, even though I am by no means rich. Do I have “employed person privilege”? No. I’m just lucky to be experiencing a privilege. Someone who’s got a more fuel efficient car than me may spend less money on gas. Do we demonize them for “fuel-efficient-car-having-person privilege”? No. We each experience different privileges so let’s stop demonizing entire sexes for it.

Yeah I’m aware this is a passionate issue, like safe spaces and feminism in general so I don’t take things personally.

I think most people replying to me are jumping the gun and putting their own idea of what I’m saying forward and arguing against their own manifestation of my idea. This means I’m constantly saying, “yeah but I’m not saying that-“ or “when did I say that?” Etc. They’re doing this because of what you mentioned. They have an idea of the words usage and so it makes them upset because they’re brought back to all the times the word has been used that they don’t agree with.

But anyway, I agree that differences are not always privileges, but I think that public opinion on those differences can mean peoples problems can be swept away because “everyone else is fine with it, you’re just looking for attention” etc.

I’m finding it hard to put into words to what I exactly mean but I hope you can understand.

Why are they not allowed to complain? If it’s truly mostly women that insult other women then they’re not blaming us. When a woman complains about a women’s issue that doesn’t effect, nor is affected by, men, that doesn’t mean she’s blaming you. She’s looking for support. It’s the men who make fun of the women for being shamed by other women. I'm not saying they're not allowed to complain about the women that insult them...but don't complain that men have it good because they either don't insult each other about the things women do to each other, or they just ignore it and don't care.

Men do this to some extent to each other too, just not usually with fashion/makeup/looks like women do. With men, it is more often with cars, houses, toys... But some of us don't care.

And I have heard this from many women over the years: "We have to make ourselves look good for you. Men expect us to look good." BULL SH*T!! For me personally, I could care less how many times a woman wears an outfit. In fact, I'd rather see her get her money's worth out of it. I also love women who wear little to no make up. And ultimately, men would just have to take what they can get when it comes to women. Unfortunately, they see it as much more of a competition between themselves than men do, and are way more "keeping up with the Jones'" than men are when it comes to these things.

The problem is, and this completely my bias experience, is that women compliment each other's clothing, specially if you wear a new blouse to work or something. so if you like that sort of attention you continue to try to please people and dress to the nines to get compliments all the time. I've had friends who come and stand in front of me for me to notice their new whatever's just to get a compliment. And that sort of pressure and hunger for attention builds up so much it's hard to watch. It's a tough world some women create for themselves. But I agree with this dude here, it truly is a problem that women create for themselves. No one has a hand in that but they. It's all about allowing these things to happen to you or living your life for yourself not caring about compliments and social standings with other people. Confidence is key. If you're confident and proud, people find that attractive. If you ask them interesting questions people will like you. Tried and true.

I do have cousins who back handedly comment on my black dress at every family event and laugh about it amongst themselves. But you gotta let these things go. I mean if that sorta thing makes them feel superior then it says more about them than it does me.
