EDIT: after receiving so many great responses (I mean it! some of them are even longer than my original post and on really high level, so there are many guys who put a lot of energy to reply to my post, which is great!) I need to add this:

This post is not to discourage you! It is just a post abour reality. No sugar coating. Just pure reality of how hard the business really is. If you are young, on the colleage/school and have a lot of free time and some money, go for it. Risk it and try a lot of different areas - just don't go to debt!!

This post is not about crab mentality - if you really succeed at the end - it is great also for me - more positions for hire and more money in economics.. so.. win/win.. I mean it!

TLDR: owning a business is stressful experience, long working hours, feels "alone" a lot of times. if you have a good job, good colleagues and almost good salary, you could be better being just an employee. as you can see in TRP, you really do not need so much money to have pretty women in your life.

After reading a few motivational books, forums for entrepreneurs, reddit entrepreneur / startup / financialindepencence and finally a few TRP posts here about business you can feel like working for a man? what a loser you are!

lets talk about this having a small business shit what lately flooded TRP..

A little background about me: I'm employed (shame on me!) and also having a small, uncussessful business.

As young, naive man I was, I had a big eyes, basically believing to the following BS:

1) having a business - you are your own Boss!

dream: how great!

reality: every customer is now your Boss!

2) having a business - you select your working hours!

dream: ouch!

reality: it depends on the business, sometimes you need to be up early for meeting with customer, sometimes you must offer business hours for support, sales and most irritating: having your thing means no sleeping up to 2pm. you are up very early so excited or worried about your business.

3) having a business - no more 40 hours work week!

dream: that's the way!

reality: just go to read a daily agenda of successful CEOs from startups or well known established companies - almost everyone has alarm at 5am and working like 12 hours a day including weekends..

yeah, there is maybe one hour squash at 1pm but is it better than 9-5 and don't think about your job for the rest of the day..?

4) having a business - working in my pyjamas, no more commuting!

dream: niiiice..

reality: after a while you will start missing your colleagues, lunches together, some sort of system and you will propably rent a office or use coworking centres. but it is very different and sometimes alone experience.

what I wanted to say with this: TLDR

Would I consider side business anymore?

YES! but only if it give me more social aspect, so no more programming business. I'm currently looking for side business which gives me contact with a lot of young women, not money primary.

most important: you have only 24 hours in your day! you also need to lift, and socialize. do not hide for 12 hours working on some shitty facebook startup and then marry not so attractive older Chinese woman.
