I am a 50 year old veteran teacher/wrestling coach. I taught a girl in my APUSH class 14 or 15 years ago. Lets call her Cathy. I remember her being a cute little brunette with a nice body and very blue eyes. We were friendly but I don't remember any uncomfortable moments with her back then. She was, by any empirical measure, very intelligent: full academic scholarship to Vanderbilt.

About 5 years ago, she friend-requested me on Facebook. I accepted, liked some of her posts, and even congratulated her when she got a nice job, and finally, about two year ago, a husband. He looked ok, maybe a bit emasculated, but still handsome. Within the last year, I noticed that she had gone through my pics and liked all of them of me, not one which had any image of my wife, son, or daughter-in-law.

Fast forward to about a month ago, and out of the proverbial blue she sent me a DM asking if she could visit me during my planning period at school. "Sure," I said. Two days before winter break, she shows up at the door of my classroom. It was nice to see her and she was a knockout, an hb9 I would say.

We talked about the old days, her college, job and husband. She never said anything particularly bad about the guy, but she never gushed as a virtual newlywed might. She asked about my wife and my son who got married in October. In short, we dabbled in typical small talk. Then she dropped the metaphorical bomb.

She told me that she had a crush on me when she was 15 and had never had the nerve to tell me so, and that she always thought I was a "real man."

I really didn't know how to address her confession but gave the stock response that it was normal for those sorts of attractions to develop. She then said, "I just wanted to let you know that if you ever get tired of "Mandi," you can call me."

I then went on to tell her that it could never happen, explained the solidity of my marriage and then reminded her that, "you're a married woman now."

I will never forget her response: "I'll never be that married."
