Any advice on not getting too drunk?

Personally, drinking used to be kind of a defense mechanism for me. Whenever there was a pause in conversation that made me feel uncomfortable I would take a drink. When you have a taste for stiff mixed drinks this can add up quickly.

Now, instead of drinking during pauses in conversation I hold eye contact. Much better results.

I usually drink 3 or 4 drinks early on, maybe mix of beer and spirits. After that I then start to alternate with water so I'm only drinking half the amount for the rest of the night.

Don't get involved in rounds of drinks, you have to pace yourself and having other people forcing drinks on you is a recipe for disaster.

Honestly though, it's just working out what your limit is.

i had this problem my first two years of uni. And then i grew up/got more experiences idk.

Anyways, its simple. Get a noice buzz going on. Like real noice. Not drunk but your in the fucking zone. when you are in this zone, sip on a beer. And start drinking water. when in the buzz prime time zone, i would say one water and beer. for every beer, you just drink water. Sure, you'll be pissin like a racehorse but come on. That excuse to go to the bathroom for me is the perfect time for me to refocus, reflect on my game, and it feels gud mayne.

[Strong] buzz, not drunk.

HOWEVER, if your with just the boys, well then thats a whole other story.

Yea, don't fucking drink too much. Seriously? Drink slower, don't feel you have to be holding a drink the whole time, and I mean, just don't drink as much. If you cannot figure out how to drink less you may need some professional assistance you are unlikely to get here to be honest.

Someone posted a drinking guide a while ago, I can't find it now.

basically he said grab some beer or mix drinks, whatever you drink normally, then drink it alone, eat bread and greasy food like pizza,and pretty much see how many drinks it takes you to get to that good level and don't drink more than that.

If you don't know how many drinks it takes you to get drunk you can easily drink too much. My limit is 8 beers max so I never buy more than that.

Seriously. Drink less, drink slower. Drink water between every alcoholic drink. This will slow down your drinking, and keep you hydrated which will help you metabolize the alcohol and get it out of your system.

If you're anything like me; you love to drink and if you have a drink in your hand or just sitting in front of you, you'll drink it habitually, then watering that shit down will be your best bet. You get to drink without getting too drunk.

Although watering down a drink sounds like pussy ass shit it really if one of the better solutions, especially if you still like to drink and have fun with everyone else. Mixing that shit with soda or juices is the perfect way to stay buzzed.

Scared of people calling you weak shit for doing it? Just don't let them see you mix it/order it/taste it. If they still call bullshit on you, just fuck it and out drink them like the true alcoholic you are and watch them puke their brains out as you're still downing shot number 14.

Or you can just learn self control so you don't look like the post college frat boy who thought he can relive his past at the office party as his seniors watch him in disgust right before he pukes on the cute receptionist that WAS interested, but no longer is.

Some of my rules: 1. NO SHOTS 2. Water with each drink, or between drinks... don't be ashamed to order nothing but a water. 3. If you're drinking mixed drinks, wait until the ice melts to order the next one.. you can cheat by eating the cubes a little. 4. Just know when to cut yourself off.

Drink quality booze,

I use to drink combos, Vodka orange juice, Rum Coke, Vodka ginger ale,

a good whiskey, on a the rocks, something to sip and have in your hand to excert your fustration or nerves on.

Alternate beer with water and it is very hard to get drunk. If you dnt want people to know your drinking water get a seltzer with lime. I usually tell people it's because I'm driving and girls seem to dig it.

Make sure to tip bartenders for water.

A single mixer (rum & coke) is 25 ml of (40%) spirit. You need to know your limit and how much it takes to bring you to varying levels of drunkeness. If you do the majority of your drinks at predrinks, you can control it pretty well. If you're at home and only using one bottle you can draw a line on it to mark where you can't go over that night. If you're out already pay attention to how many you've bought and force yourself to stop or even get a friend to stop you. Or even only bring enough money for a certain number of drinks and taxi, leave the card at home.

I could say eat a large dinner or some shit like that but in reality all you've got to do is show a bit of self control. Every extra drink makes it even harder to stop, just know when to not walk down to the bar again.

Drink less is the answer, however it is awkward to not have a drink, or even a water. In fact a lot of girls associate a guy not drinking at a bar as a predator. The best thing I've found is to space your drinks out with a sprite and pineapple juice, (or cranberry, or whatever.)

Everyone will just think you have a mixed drink and you can keep yourself from getting hammered.

Whenever I go out drinking to just have a good time I follow the rule of stopping right after I start feeling it (usually 2-3 drinks). Then I try to drink about a drink an hour or none at all. It makes it so I feel good and am on the same drunk "level" as my friends (it's never really fun to be the only sober person in a group of drunk people, drunk people are dumbasses), but my thoughts are still mostly clear and I don't have any crazy hangovers or the like.

Stick to one type of drink. Don't mix the grape and the grain. Think of the mood you want for the night. A couple of bottles of wine between over dinner should be enough for the night.

If its a club or bar environment, i would have 3-4 beers maximum or, if drinking mixers, I would alternate between one with a shot, and then just a soft drink (I also have a large fluid intake over the course of a night, and alternating drinks means you'll be able to keep drinking without getting smashed).

It's all about pacing buddy, however if you know you're going to be drinking beer all night know your limit then cut yourself off half way there and make an active mental note to do that. If you need help then ask a friend to come out with you and be the voice of reason with the excuse "You got that early meeting don't drink too much." or "Hey man didn't you pick up a morning shift instead of a late shift?" This way you've been subtly clued in that it's time to cut yourself off AND if you're with a girl you sound like a responsible guy who's got his shit together, which is an even bigger score. Beyond that, have a water between beers, the bartenders most likely will not even bat an eye and if they do it'll most likely be because you are one less drunk guy who could potentially put their establishment at risk from drinking and driving.

Over all however, if you're truly struggling with avoiding binge drinking, as in you just find it one hundred percent impossible to do rather than a habit, then there is a greater problem at play and it might be good to seek professional help about the issue and sans the dating scene for a bit. AA isn't the most successful however.

If I want to make a good impression, I will do scotch, whiskey, or bourbon. These you just sip and savor. If you need a little more, add soda water.

Wine is a different matter. If I drink more than one glass within 30 mins I will start to get stupid tipsy. There's just something different about how a wine buzz comes on.

Beer? Keep the ABV around 5% and take it easy. Drink to enjoy and savor, and for refreshment.

Oh,and instead of drinking mere water to even yourself out. You can class-up with a club soda with a twist of lime.

If you're problem is that you always need to have a drink in your hand, like an oral fixation type of issue where you would feel awkward just standing there, thats a problem - a crutch. You shouldn't be just standing there, you should be doing something, being actively involved in a conversation. But that part is probably obvious. Its a hard habit to break, but you can do it.

The easy short term fix is to drink water in between drinks. Someone else suggested club soda with lime, which is a great suggestion. It looks just like a gin and tonic, so no one will really question it (not that you care, but still). Working on watering down your drinking regiment will keep you more sober, which will allow you to concentrate on your game, which will allow you to learn how to not rely on having a drink in your hand all night long.

Seriously though, this is a big part of what you want to do actually. This is self control, one of the big things that sets you up with solid character. Something that IS attractive to others. If you want to stop at your first or second drink for a while to enjoy the feeling without going overboard, say, "No." People will respect your choice and those who try to ignore you are already too drunk and you are wasting your time with them that night since they already won't be of much use to you.

Try to be well rested when you go out. I tend to be sharper in general when I'm not exhausted. Also, make sure you stay hydrated! A lot of people here are suggesting alternating water between drinks but even every two drinks should be fine.

Lastly, I would suggest sticking to one type of drink throughout the night, preferably beers with a lower ABV. Any good bar will have a bunch of different beers on tap, usually with a menu that shows the ABV. Beer won't get you drunk as fast so you're gonna be able to pace yourself better. A couple of shots at the beginning of the night are fine but when you're many drinks deep, those are the shots that ruin you.

You could try going out and not even drinking, if you can that is. If it's just the comfort of a drink in your hand than fill it with water or a soft drink and if you aren't able to go one night without drinking than it's not a problem to ask for help with on seddit.

Every drink has to be followed by a cup of water. If you are still going too fast, two cups, etc.

Drink the water as fast as you would the drink.

Slows you down and has the benefit of greatly reducing hangovers.
