I honestly bought an iPhone tripod with a Bluetooth shutter clicker, and took some solid photos myself. Took a few tries, but it paid off. 1000 matches in about 3 months use. I’m not a god tier chad either.
[–]noldi123 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Any advice for taking good pics? I also bought a tripod for my iphone recently
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Get some inspiration for poses and practice in the mirror . Also try to shoot close sunset as light is softer and more flattering .
[–]NichRigga- 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
How did this work out? You just went to different locations and posed? I got to do this bruh, im a good looking dude (not delusional I promise) but literally have no solid photos for online dating. Either this or get a professional shoot done
[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Have you shown your profile anywhere around? I’d love to take a look and get some ideas for photos.
[–]Johnnytanss 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Glad it worked out for you. Me personally I'd rather let a professional do the job for me.
[–]ChewyButterMilk -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
didn’t you say tinder algorithm was a scam on a previous post
[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Yeah but I overcame it because I caved and bought Platinum. Pay to play I guess.
[–]ChewyButterMilk 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
yeah skewed for men i suppose. Where did you take photos? like park and things like that?

I’d say 20 in that 3 month span.

You get what you put in. If u want high quality women, market yourself as a high quality man. Or don't do online dating and keep doing day game. Everyone has something that works better for them.
[–][deleted] 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
[–]Johnnytanss 11 points12 points13 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
It's a lot easier when you have options. It sucks if you only get 1 date in a while so you have this mentality that you can't fuck up. I been there.
[–]bandsupjay 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I feel you. Anytime i do that I feel like im trying to qualify myself for someone lol and it sucks. Just usually stop there and throw up whatever the fuck i like
I hear you! And it becomes exhausting to the point where you have to take a break from the whole thing.
[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
True, but you have to be real. If you portray yourself better or more successful than you are, you’ll be forever having to cover up these inconsistencies and you’ll never be able to go back to your real self.
[–]Johnnytanss 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Isn't that the goal? To become that successful person? It is for me personally. But I am hearing that point a few times so far in this post. I'd rather be worried about actually getting the date than if she will no longer like me. It also depends what you're looking for. Long term life partner? Then yes, be real with your photos. But I don't see much harm from marketing yourself better than the millions of dudes out there with mirror selfie pics with bad lighting.
Understood but some women and men feel they were deceived, if there’s a big difference in the picture and in your personal appearance. We absolutely want to be professional and exhibit quality but no one wants to be surprised when they see you in person, as not as attractive as your pictures looked.
[–]moomoo2300 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
It’s not like he’s lying about anything. All it shows is that he’s attentive to detail and quality is important to him. That’s immediately more attractive than blurry ass “you got games on ur phone?” Selfies some of these dudes be taking. The way people do things is often a direct reflection of their values. So if I see a dude who put in work to look good, professional, and serious then ima think that he likely respects himself and would respect me as well and is not afraid to invest in things (like a relationship). I think it’s a great idea OP! Says a lot about you.
I agree as long as there’s not a big difference in the picture compared to in person.
[–]craig4133 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
This! Sounds exhausting. Just be yourself.
Exactly
[–]dheidjdedidbe 11 points12 points13 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I did a professional shoot for my college graduation and use the best pic from that as my dating app opener. It has yielded zero matches
[–]indecisive_maybe 7 points8 points9 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
At least you know the problem isn't the photo quality!
Maybe a new photoshoot with some more active shots would help.
[–]dheidjdedidbe 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I have 6 pics.
First is the photo shoot 2. Candid beach pic (cold beach not shirtless) 3. Sitting next to a fire 4. This one changes, currently a pic of me “firefighting”, wildfire mop up. 5. Me with friends at outdoor bar 6. Meh pic of me climbing. Trying to get a better one.
I think I have enough “action” shots. Though all but one were taken with a phone. Granted it was a good phone.
[–][deleted] 38 points39 points40 points 4 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link
I ain't putting 300 dollars in for a woman who gives one word response.
[–]invaderjif 30 points31 points32 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
No, it's multiple women....who only give one word responses. Once you have a few, it's almost like a full sentence!
[–][deleted] 8 points9 points10 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I have come up with one word questions too. Well? Date? Meetup? Drinks? Coffee?. You see five different questions with 5 different words.
[–]invaderjif 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yes!
[–]creative_i_am_not 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
If you have great pics you will be surprised how girls attitudes changes, they even might start convos
[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Believe me their conversation skills suck, coz rhey have been habituated to giving one word responses.

Delusional. You’re not living in reality
[–][deleted] 12 points13 points14 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
That’s very true about the great results from a professional photographer. However as I began to read profiles better and recognize filtered pictures, I noticed that professional studio photos are actually too good. I’ve matched with many women I considered very attractive to beautiful that had studio photos. In person they do look entirely different. Studio photos can make most, if not all portraits significantly and remarkably better. At least 3 different times I was barely able to recognized them in person.
I’m not saying they can make an overweight unattractive person look great and I’m not judging anyones looks except to make this point. They can however make an average person appear much more attractive then they are. I avoid profiles with these pictures and I would never get them done myself and post them. The last thing I want is to be far less than what my pictures revealed and what my date was expecting. Plus the other person feels somewhat deceived.
But having said all that, they can be done more realistically but you have to be honest with yourself on just how consistent the picture is with your true looks.
[–]Johnnytanss 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I agree. No one wants to get catfished. But if the issue is getting your foot in the door, then I think investing in this is a good idea. It clearly has paid off well for me. I don't know if women would feel the same way when being selective about men. They already have a lot on their plate so a good quality photo will make you stand out. I'm not expecting everyone to come out looking like a model.
[–]Turnover-Asleep 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Good point, about getting your foot in the door. Meeting up is half the battle, and if you are half way decent with women, you are in there.. The key to dating apps really lies in marketing yourself. 👍
[–]Steakman1 6 points7 points8 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Is there a specific type of photographer that does these? Getting professional photos is something I’ve been considering. But I don’t really know what kind of photographer to use. I see plenty of wedding photographers. But never seen something along the lines of a “dating profile photographer”
[–]Johnnytanss 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
It was hard for me to find. What I did was go on Instagram and search "city" photography. Look for candid shots of people, then DM the photographer to see if you can book with them. That's what I ended up doing.
[–]Steakman1 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Shit. That means I gotta start using Instagram😂
[–]nordik1 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Look for fashion/lifestyle photographers.
[–]OThinkingDungeons 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Remember that the photographer is working for you, but they can't take the right photos if you don't tell them what you want. This is why I suggest reading the following two guides, and forcing any hired photographer to do the same.
Read this guide first is my suggestion: https://fixthephoto.com/how-to-take-a-good-profile-picture.html
Then this: https://www.zirby.co/blog/online-dating-photo-tips
The best photographers to look for would be Instagram photographers who have great people shots. It's not a mistake that so many people love browsing Instagram for cool photos.
[–]ReadyTelephone2395 9 points10 points11 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
You rly dont need to hire a photographer or have 6 pics to be successful.
Just have some girlfriends to take pics of you. Girls take great pics.
Also i agree a lot of dudes have horrible profiles just look at the tinder subreddit.
[–]djdante 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
So I'm a dating coach and avid photographer - guys pay me regularly to take photos for their online dating profiles - it's worth it...
BUT I also see guys losing money to photographers, so here are some things to consider, because the online dating landscape keeps changing.
https://d2oezb05uoa2c1.cloudfront.net/p/pmhpji0wgc0gkssk.jpg
https://d2oezb05uoa2c1.cloudfront.net/p/p0zsjvosgckoog8c.jpg
Spoiler: The First one was shot on my mobile phone all alone with a tripod, and scores 9.4 out of 10 on photofeeler, the second one was shot on a digital SLR by a photographer and scores 8.5 on photofeeler.
So, I think if you're going ot spend good money, it's worth understanding how to maximise that spend, and how to find a photographer who will do a good job for you.
One last tip - Find a friend who wants to do online dating shots with you - often photogrphers will give you both a discount and you can get some social proof photos with a mate laughing together which is good for building trust.
[–]AdmirableEditor5 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
What is your source for "Recent statistics are showing that 'niche' online dating profiles are outperforming regular hot ones"? Do you have a link?
Have been wondering where I can find online dating statistics. They seem hard to come by.
[–]djdante 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I do a data-mine for new statistics every few months for my videos - here is my latest one - at the bottom you'll see I've listed a bunch of reference for online dating statistics: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HY8ZH5-jXRg&ab_channel=SchoolOfAttraction
But the actual reference you want is on this site: https://www.pewresearch.org/internet/2020/02/06/the-virtues-and-downsides-of-online-dating/
the quote is here:
"They found that it is not just the better-looking people who receive lots of messages. Using the spread of attractiveness ratings, they identified people who divide opinion on their attractiveness. These polarizing users ended up being far more popular on internet dating sites than universally attractive people [26]. In essence, the most beautiful users will always do well, but users whose attractiveness divides opinion are better off than those who everyone agrees is just quite cute."
That's just one reference, it's actually in a number of unrelated studies that this finding came up though, and now when I coach guys for online dating, this is a staple part of how I get more average-looking guys better results - so its definitely a strategy worth considering using.
[–]Canadian-Seductioner 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
That's a lot of money to invest. You only need 1 really good headshot for your first pic which you can probably get from a photographer for like $100. The rest of the photos should be a combination of other pics looking good and doing interesting things. Take a look at my last post for more detailed info.
[–]Johnnytanss 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
I agree that you maybe only need the 1 good photo to capture the attention. I personally went all out because I wanted to market myself a certain way.
[–]Canadian-Seductioner 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I'd be curious to see how it plays out for you!
[–]Johnnytanss 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I've a lot more work to do. This just gets my foot in the door. Been out of the game for a while due to personal reasons so i will probably be dissecting your post at 2am when I don't pull lol.
[–]Canadian-Seductioner 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Ahaha feel free to reach out if you need help
[–]nordik1 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Depends on your age category. If you're 18-25 the professional polished aesthetic is going to be a negative against you. The gen Z aesthetic is largely about looking like you aren't trying at all
Milennial is more mixed, but I wouldn't do more than 1 or 2
[–]Honest_Inevitable632 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Although high quality pictures are important because this is your catalogue to sell yourself initially, it could backfire as if one is trying so hard especially if the outfits you have really don’t depict your everyday life.
Having good pictures are good to stand out but you can equally get good photos using a phone camera using proper lighting and angle
Good pictures, chiseled jaw, clear skin, good smile and strong hair game typically gets me lots of interviews
[–]Johnnytanss 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I kind of agree but if your looks don't reflect what the photos show, at least you get a chance to wow them with your personality. Yes phone cameras are fine if taken well. I have seen too many selfies or mirror pics for guys on hinge/tinder. I'm not saying everything needs to do this. Just saying that it can make a difference if your photos aren't already crisp.
[–]1keentolearn12 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
This is a good idea. Selfies are a bit shit
Can you post your pics, (cover your face)

[–]kyrensolo 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Makes sense OP. Although I will say that a friend can just take photos of you with their iPhone camera, the quality these days is really good.
[–]Johnnytanss 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
I agree quality is good but i feel like not a lot of people understand photographers know how to make someone look good. Have you heard that different focal lenses can change your face shape?
[–]kyrensolo 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Hm that’s interesting. Where do you usually find a professional photographer?
I commented earlier about using Instagram. Just search "your city" photographer, look for candid photos of people, dm the photographer.
[–]kyrensolo 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Ok, I’ll into that. Thanks.
[–]vorpod 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Or use portrait mode, save the 600 and profit
[–]chillbill1220 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I second this. Didn’t pay for professional photos but had my buddy’s girlfriend take a few and was in a wedding last summer so a couple good pics came from that.
My online dating results have tripled in the past year. Way more matches, hotter matches, better convos, more dates, more sex. Sure I still get ghosted occasionally and have some one word response convos but results are a lot better
[–]CoolAidCucumber 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yeah this is bad advice.
[–]MapsCharts 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Or just talk to actual girls ? You won't even need a photo and they'll see you how you're really
[–]kingpersnickety 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Nope I did this in 2019 and my online dating success rate was still abysmal
[–]Delicious_Ad_1853 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
You have the right idea, but no need to pay so much. Plenty of hobbyist photographers out there that could help you stand out for less than $100.
Did that, still zero likes/matches
This is a great idea
[–]NinoZachetti 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I agree that you need to me maxing your photos but disagree that the way to do it is by booking a session. 95% of professional photographers are gonna take nice guy beta shots and once your session is done if you don't find photos consistent with the vibe you're trying to impart you're screwed. Much better to use your own phone with a tripod and remote and become an amateur photographer yourself. Or better yet, get a cheapo DSLR or mirrorless camera for the same price that you would've paid for a single photography session.
[–]Commercial_Habit_923 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Well you need to make sure the pictures are good for tinder, just having professional photos won’t help
[–]sportsdude523 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
i've been told by matches in person that my pictures do my physical attractiveness in person no justice. so it matters.
[–]Nell_De_Blass 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Seems rather vain. That would turn me off if I saw some dude posing for professional shots.
[–]nordik1 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
What do you consider more vain, selfies or having someone take your photo? Why?
[–]Nell_De_Blass 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I consider a PROFESSIONAL PHOTO SHOOT to be vain.
[–]nordik1 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Right, same question. For me, selfies are dripping with narcissism despite them being forced into our culture as normal.
[–]Nell_De_Blass 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Oh I agree. Selfies suck balls too. But a professional photo shoot is just a leap too far
[–]timetobbetter 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Or just approach women IRL and do the apps on the side. I won’t say the apps don’t work but if you aren’t willing to spend the money or put in the effort for pictures you can always go outside. I’m not sure on the percentage but I’m certain a large percentage of women are NOT on a dating app. If someone would like to find the stat that would be nice to know
[–]nordik1 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Some quick guesstimation math will quickly show you 90%+ of the women in your city aren’t on an app
Problem is it’s convenient to swipe on pictures from the couch after a long day of work so I don’t think the guys will be stopping anytime soon despite the inefficient time investment to reward ratio.
[–]timetobbetter 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Well with that logic wouldn’t it make more sense to just take the more opportunistic approach… aka approaching in real life? I’m sure a HUGE percentage of men are on tinder. One guy gets laid off tinder, tells his friends, Friends download tinder and stop pursuing women in real life because it was just “so easy”. Then they stop pursuing women in real life “assuming” everyone is on tinder. Essentially increasing your success in real life because your number of active competitors has reduced
[–]nordik1 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yes I think real life approaching would give you a big leg up. A lot of women get a bad taste in their mouth from dating apps and never go back, whereas guys will go back over and over because it's the path of least resistance to try and get laid (swipe from your couch is effortless). Many men are afraid to approach in general, and out of those that do, many will fuck it up completely, so the competition narrows down repeatedly for real life approaching and is superior just off the numbers alone
[–]Celtic50 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Is that not considered a little corny? And if not what kind of pics would you take? Types of poses, looking at camera/smiling or not, etc?
[–]methmonkeysyrup 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
The majority of the really soulful and appealing women that I've met in my life and remembered fondly were ones that I met while I was doing something completely non girl chasing related.
I BEEN TELLING MY BOYS THIS FOR SO LONG
