Perfectly put, and I mean think about it: you don't plan or overthink a conversation you're going to have with your best friends, but those always turn out to be the most meaningful because you just let conversation flow and naturally progress, whereas if you're in your head trying to force the conversation to go a certain way, it will come off as exactly that- forced and disingenuous.
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
100%, people can feel when things are forced or disingenuous really easily. Even when you think you are ‘fooling’ people, you’re not, and if you are you won’t be for long!
[–]FaithInStrangers94 19 points20 points21 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
It’s an unnerving concept and you feel a bit unprepared... but yeah. The dates where I tried to plan some questions and topics ended up backfiring or I never used them.
Being 100% in the moment is magnetising (so is being physically attractive)
[–]Iydllydln 16 points17 points18 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I met my wife when I quit trying and started to get comfy with the idea of a life of bachelorhood. A bit of “quit trying” goes a long way and I think puts out your honest self since you don’t give a shit, and you’ll land someone that’s into you. Before you know it, three kids later...
[–]jbear876 6 points7 points8 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I totally agree. The only thing I'd say that I "plan" is 1 or 2 questions that can help kick off a well flowing conversation. Like "Okay I know you go to school here and take classes and all, but what do you like to do in your free time?" or something along those lines. Everyone loves to talk about themselves, and 95% of the time you'll find a common interest which gets a good conversation flowing.
[–]earsurgery9 8 points9 points10 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
she fancied me and I fancied her, that’s why it worked, not the line itself.
Bingo!
If you watch enough infields or make enough approaches, you'll see that all successes and rejections can be easily explained in this way
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I feel like this is the bottom line for many cases. There has to be some level of physical attraction and that’s just the truth. No matter what these books and blogs might say, if you’re not looking after yourself and exclusively going after people who are not open to your advances, there are going to be far more failures.
[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I agree with this 1000%. A lot of people read advice thinking it’s a script to follow, when in my experience the best way to go about it is to just start talking and see if there’s any chemistry. This is why it’s best to:
Have a full life full of interests and hobbies you genuinely enjoy. The best conversationalists are able to draw connections between things quickly, and this comes with having experience.
Be open to meeting strangers. Present yourself well, work on body language and personal style.
Interactions do not follow a script in real life. The best plan is no plan.

The more videos I watch the more I forget to have a decent conversation with any person. But the day I stopped watching these videos and be the dumbass I am. Still I didn't know how to have a conversation.
I think you’ve hit on something good there, you forget to have a conversation with any person, it’s good to have conversations where seduction isn’t the goal!
But shit yeh dude, the way I see it is some of these videos and stuff will get you cheap wins sometimes. But they won’t offer lasting effects. It obviously depends on what your goal is, but if you feel like you need to practice anyway, then it’s better to practice what is going to get you real results in a few years rather than practicing the cheap stuff to just end up behind again when people start to move into a different phase of their life.

Agreed just like dancing/singing/anything artistic, let it run off instinct, if you plan it it gets weird
[–]FairAnalyst -1 points0 points1 point 5 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
A different way of saying 'just be yourself'. But I know the first few paragraphs are bullshit, because you're not getting a relationship off of a few lines that happened to work. That's not how any of this works.
Nobody should listen to this kind of garbage.
[–][deleted] 5 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
[–]FairAnalyst -4 points-3 points-2 points 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Sure, I probably am like you were when you were younger. Have dreams and passions. Having a blast in life. Hooking up with hot chicks.
The only diff is I make enough money that I don't really need to work and probably more fit than you were at that age.
I've never heard anyone consider someone else 'being young at heart' as an insult before. That's a first.
[–][deleted] 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
[–]FairAnalyst 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I'm not saying your life exp is bullshit. I'm saying your first few paragraphs of where you claim using a few lines got you girls and subsequently relationships.
If that were true, you could be a millionaire right now if you told us what those lines were.
But I'm betting you can't, because what you're claiming never happened. You cannot get laid from a couple of canned lines. If that were true, Mystery would still be king of game.
[–]Nervous-Abroad4422 -1 points0 points1 point 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
You just proved that none of this shit matters. If the woman is physically attracted to you you can literally say anything and you’ll have women swarming to you.
You sound angry. You ok?
[–]theprufeshanul 171 points172 points173 points 5 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link
LOL absolutely right.
Men (generally) ask questions for information - that's why your bro asks you for help with something he is looking for an actual plan about how to solve an issue.
Women (generally) ask questions for emotional validation - that's why when you wife is telling you about her day she needs to listen and sympathise not point out a solution to where she is going wrong.
I really wish i had learnt this simple lesson earlier in my life.
[–]MK2718 21 points22 points23 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yep, exactly. Learning how to communicate emotions and not just information in a conversation was one of the key discoveries that made me much more successful. I cover it in this video: Why Technical People Often Fail at Casual Conversation
[–]KillerBBQSaucyQueen 13 points14 points15 points 5 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
I appreciate that you said “generally,” because it’s really important to know your audience. When I’m asking my husband a question about an issue, I’m asking him to brainstorm with me to solve it. I rarely discuss my emotions, and I strongly prefer that people not share serious emotions with me. I have a tough time with empathy, so if a friend is going through a difficult time, I’m the one the one that will make them dinner or run their errands.
There are are a lot more of us (women who are less emotionally inclined) than you might think. A lot of these women with good social skills have learned to go through the motions of “lending a sympathetic ear,” but they would usually rather not. My immediate friend group is around 40% of us more logical and 60% being more emotional.
I’ve ended more than one relationship in the past bc the man was too emotionally needy for me. There was absolutely nothing wrong with them—it was simply not a good fit.
I would have 100% appreciated some man starting a “real” conversation with me unless it was about something super creepy.
[–]theprufeshanul 7 points8 points9 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Well said!
I trained under some famous female surgeons who laughed at my emotional neediness and, of course, having known a large number of females in my life I could only talk in generalities :)
[–]KillerBBQSaucyQueen 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
It’s great bc one of the logical women in the group is a surgeon.
[–]loofyd 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
can you share your experience ? it could help us younger newbies !
also what exactly is emotional neediness ? ELI5 with example please

[–]ArchiTawss69 8 points9 points10 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]TheRealAlkemyst 10 points11 points12 points 5 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
asking for a name is a given...I usually never care about work off the bat and if they are from out of town usually they will volunteer that info.
[–]MK2718 32 points33 points34 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Starting a conversation without introducing yourself and then having the girl later stop and say: "Wait, what's your name?" is a great indicator of initial interest and sign that you have successfully hooked the conversation. You can be sure that by that point where she is the one asking for your name that she actually cares to know it.
[–]TheRealAlkemyst 19 points20 points21 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
The fact that the conversation continues is my indicator
[–]FlippinFlags 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Disagree.. I never tell a girl my name upfront.. that's her job to ask.. I don't even ask girls what their names are.. you just met the girl, why do you care what her name is.. plus I'll just forget it 2 minutes later anyways.
[–]TheRealAlkemyst 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
Indeed. Why I only use honey or babe. A lot of women appreciate when you approach you ask what their name is, if not in the beginning at least a few minutes in.
[–]garroshsucks12 8 points9 points10 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Honestly, I do interview style but I ask em weird ass questions because I know it keeps them interested.
“Do you believe in aliens?”
That one took me down a rabbit hole for three hours with a girl I was set up with on Saturday. Interesting and strange conversation.
Any other fun lines you use?
[–]garroshsucks12 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Do they believe in paranormal things, ask them what their favorite cryptid is
[–]BubblySkeleton 7 points8 points9 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Couldn't agree more. You really think a girl is going to be impressed with how different you are because you walked up and asked her what flavor frappucino she would be if she could be any instead of having a normal conversation?
The truth is like you said, most girls really aren't approached that often. You don't need to try to be different, you're not different and that's fine. You're a guy trying to talk to a girl at a bar, if that is your sole intention, to talk to a girl at a bar and have a good time and you own that, you're golden.
[–][deleted] 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Apart from obvious common ground (band shirts, compliments, cars), what are some things we like other people to talk about in these sitches?
[–]Great at coke approachSnooHesitations4922 5 points6 points7 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I personally dont like the standard kind of interview conversation, but in my experience, anything you say will work if you are her type, and anything you say will not work if you ain't her type.
Everyone has their heads so filled with gambits, flim flams, hoodwinks, stratagems and bamboozles that it became easy to forget the basics.
A recent pickup...I was bantering with some of the older locals and one girl in a group of 3 made eye contact with me with a smile and started playing with her hair, so I knew this was basically a non verbal green light. I walked over and said "I was curious, do you happen to like apples?" She giggled but said no. I replied "I got you talking to me, how do you like them apples?!" Now I knew in my head this is probably the corniest thing I ever said and I wasnt on my game that night and so did her friends. It didnt even matter, she said she wanted to talk to me and we actually did talk about standard stuff. I had her out of there within an hour. I probably would have dated her if she didnt end up being married.
The point is the same stuff that comes off as charming to an interested female can be serial killer crazy to an uninterested woman. By that logic you can say anything you want (with obvious exceptions) if you can tell she is into you. If she is not into you, not much you can do except talk to a hotter girl right in front of her, then she may change her mind. It's all about reading people.
[–]earsurgery9 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
but in my experience, anything you say will work if you are her type, and anything you say will not work if you ain't her type.
bingo!!!
I'm gald more and more people are seeing through the marketing BS and get how this works nowadays, compared to a while back when everyone was so damn naive lol
But yes, there's nothing at all wrong with 'interview mode' (ps - julien RSD done it non stop!). If anything, NOT asking the 'normal' questions will make you look odd! Back in the day i'd see some oof the most cringy interactions because people were trying so hard to never ask her name or what she's up too or what she does etc because they thought in not doing that they had some sort of 'edge' over the next guy lol
your post is on the money. It's really all about whether you are her type/she is into you or not. Thus why all people in the know agree it's really just a game of numbers
[–]steveblahhh 3 points4 points5 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Me - "What are your thoughts on awkward silences?"
Her - "I don't mind at all"
About on hour into a Tinder date. We had sex and 3 month fling. Sometimes it's ok to acknowledge the totally normal lulls in conversation.
[–]Kitchen_Entertainer9 9 points10 points11 points 5 years ago* (5 children) | Copy Link
Nah, just compliment them. Most girls put effort into going out so a compliment is a big ego boost
[–]Artrock80 17 points18 points19 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Yep! Just be sure to compliment their style, actions or personality, NOT their body.
Just be sure to compliment their style, actions or personality

[–]Kitchen_Entertainer9 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I complimented this one girls jacket and anothers hair. It started a conversation about themselves
is it cool to compliment someone's hair color ?
i prefer a girl with natural golden blonde hair but i am not sure if that makes for a good compliment ?
where i am currently , a lot of girls dye their hair with different colors
and believe it or not, i am a sucker for girls with red color or purple color hair .. those colors seem to really attract me
do you think this will work as a nice opener ?
[–]Chrisanova_NY 8 points9 points10 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Women could learn from this too.
DON'T ask men what we "Do for a living".
It's boring, and worse, it makes you look like a gold-digger.
[–]FlippinFlags 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
That's why you never tell them the real answer until at least the second time you've seen them.
[–]Personal-Brain428 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
OK, so don't ask her name or where she's from or what she does for work.
Does this apply too a date, too?
What are you suggesting? You mean walk up too a girl in a bar and ask her something like what's the most amazing thing she's ever done? Or her favourite animal?
I think that might make you look a bit odd lol. Might end up wishing you'd just asked her name and what she does like a normal person instead of 'gaming' her haha
[–]hectorgmo 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Damn. This is gold, thanks!
[–]zaputo 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The Halo effect theory proves that handsome men can be creepy or even have the bad qualities of an ‘ugly’ man. Shrek got his princess, and the lesson behind that movie literally is to tell ugly men they get who they want 🤣

Not true. If you’re hot enough she’ll be glad for the attention. You can’t be too spergy though. That’s it. That’s the trick.
[–]L1ttl3Lun4 9 points10 points11 points 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Nope, the guy could be super hot but if he's bad at conversation ladies will get disinterested
[+]skaryhunk -8 points-7 points-6 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

[–]L1ttl3Lun4 6 points7 points8 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

[–]skaryhunk -2 points-1 points0 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Well, it’s a little messed up, but the message is still the same. So... yeah.

[–]armorm3 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
This is the way most if not all interactions should go. Building rapport is a gut feeling thing. Most of my conversations with people I've just met go this way, and yes I can sense the instant someone wants something from me. When you want something or someone, the only rule to remember is content is king, period. Keep it fun, and if it's business sell yourself based on the merit of your actual business and it's potential. Now for dating... good luck with that, most of what I've found so far doesn't make sense and depends on many factors, mostly out of your control because they're tied to a potential partner's background. It's either the spark is there and you both make it happen, or not..
[–]Shmazdip 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Moral of the story don't waste time with people who consider you boring for trying to start a conversation and then not at all realising it's a two way street in return. The right people will feel good to talk to no matter what. Some people you click with others you don't.
[–]francescadabesta 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
If you can make her laugh she will probably be more than happy to talk to you. Of course the trick is thinking of something funny and relevant to say
[–]SpohCbmal 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I agree, and I think of it this way.
Him: I love that bracelet that you are wearing.
Her: Aw thanks!
Him: I was thinking of accessorizing myself. Seems like a lot of guys do that these days.
If she seems shy you could also ask the implied question. ... Have you noticed all the guys accessorizing?
Her: Yes, and I think this about all these guys accessorizing.
And of course look for feedback. If she is not paying attention to you or gives flat responses then you can say goodbye and move on.
[–]Big_Duke_Six 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
As a guy, I don't think that I would ever say that I am "accessorizing"... that sounds like a very feminine term...
[–]SpohCbmal 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
It's an example, but to each their own. Using terms like that don't have a negative effect in how I am perceived for me personally.

Just met some girl, and i was in that mood, you know. Zero fucks about what people's thoughts on you, just being weird yer in that funny border, talked to this random girl, saying weird ass shit, yet she enjoyed. Appearantly she is as weird as me...
Well, but it happens to be we live appart a bit too much, and we didn't had the chance to meet once again. But still, nonetheless a great interactive conversation.

Women at the bar don’t want ugly men approaching them, so if you’re a 5/10 or lower don’t bother women at bars. That’s it. Leave the bars for the 7s 8s and 9s.
