If you want to tease in a flirty / banter way it's all about delivering it in a teasing friendly way. Tbh all my examples are pretty specific and based more around knowing a woman first, so if she's got a terrible sense of direction for example you can tease her about that eg "I guess I'll guide you home because you'd probably get lost" but make sure it's obviously a joke.
For someone you don't really know I just wouldn't insult them at all. You'd get better results by teasing in a slightly arrogant or self promoting way rather than putting her down. Saying "well I get all the ladies. With a face like this, who could resist?" for example.
Challenging someone is sexy, putting them down isn't.

The closer to equal you can manage without going below equal, the more impressive and alluring the feat and the more valuable your approval is established. The reason high value approval is attractive is because it signals a high value person and presents a challenge.
That's totally fine!! Because you're not really trying to lower her self esteem or make her feel bad, you're teasing her. Hell, that's flirting. But that's not my understanding of negging. My understanding of negging is telling her with a straight face that we'd better eat out because she'd probably poisen you. Teasing her and obviously enjoying her food and saying that would be fine but I don't think it's the same as negging.

Yes thank you. When I see negging in real life it comes across as a guy projecting his insecurities on to me. It's very boring. Playful push pull is much more fun.
Sorry if this is an unpopular opinion, but to me negging is an outdated concept, like women being advised they can't wear pants at work or men being told pink is a girly color.

Negging is the wrong word for this thread. Negging is a manipulation tactic where you undermine the woman’s confidence to make her want your approval desperately, so you can get laid. It’s pretty awful - it could destroy/affect the confidence of the more average women for a long time. Won’t work on hot women either because they don’t have to prove themselves. Even if it does work, they’re only sleeping with you for all the wrong reasons and it’s a poor foundation for anything beyond a one night stand. No self respecting, confident and competent man would resort to such a thing.
Negging is a natural way to flirt. It does work on any woman. It's also something that many competent, confident, self respecting men do.
Some people flirt naturally. Some people don't know how. Some are very aware of what they're doing, can label it, then discuss it, then share it with inexperienced others.
Women sleep with me because they like me. I naturally flirt with everybody and negging just happens. My way is playful and I've never hurt a girl's feelings accidentally. If I hurt them on purpose, it was for a split second until they see "the reveal".
Example: Girl sends me a snap of a cocktail made from Ugli fruit, says she loves Ugli fruit.
A month later we're on a date and I tell her that I have something for her back at the house, "I bought you something. It's very ugly, but when I saw it, it reminded me of you and I had to get it!"
"Ugly? Wowwww...."
"Yeah, you know, like the fruit. It's an ugli fruit. I remember how much you like them, so I bought one for us later."
"Awwwwww! Oh my god, that's actually really sweet!"

Naw, I disagree. The positive results are exactly the same without the negative feelings, or perhaps duration of negative feelings. Any jokingly said negative comment is a neg in my book.
Dated a different girl and she had overalls on one day and I said she looked like a cabbage patch doll. This chick was super arrogant, independent, etc. She laughed and punched my arm. Later on, she rushes up to a door to open it herself, except she's trying to pull it open. Finally, I get up the stairs, turn the handle and push, "Need some help with that, cabbage patch?!"
This is all slightly dickish, but done playfully, and that's my shtick. Did I knock her down a notch? Yea. Did I hurt her feelings? No, I just gave her a little humility.
You can talk about a girl's toe hairs, nose hairs, or that she looks like a cabbage patch kid, whatever. Anything ridiculous that isn't typically discussed as positive things during courtship. If we think about positive, neutral, or negative comments, then I'd say all of my examples were negative comments said in a positive manner (fun = positive).
"You're dead to me! Away with you! We're not friends anymore!"
If you say that while you're both laughing it's a neg that's a positive situation.
If you say that after catching someone in a lie, clearly it's just a negative.
Do you believe that a neg must reach a certain threshold of negativity to be considered a neg? Or is it because I'd already established attraction that my examples weren't negs? Is it because they were too soft to be considered negs?
When I watch other men neg, some take it very far. I have one friend who says extremely shitty things to women in an extremely fun way. Usually they're laughing at him while he's basically just cussing them out. If you read a transcript, you'd be thinking, "Wow, abusive!"
If you see it in person, you think, "How the fuck does this guy get away with this and still be likeable as fuck?!"
Everyone's shtick is different, but I think negs are simplistic when broken down. It's just a negative expression, expressed positively, or during a positive interaction.

The actual definition of negging, according to the guy who developed them, is a disqualifier (statement of disinterest) that is used on girls with 'bitch shields', AKA women that have been already saturated with approaches, and are brushing off all guys approaching them. It's only used at the beginning of the Attraction phase and is supposed to be relatively innocuous, like calling out fake nails or playing a 'pull my finger' game.
The 'negging' you're referring to is the form that has been either misused by socially unsavvy men, or misconstrued by people reading it out of context. Like OP says, it's basically for 10's or girls who think that they are 10's ('I am the master of all I survey' vibe).

Lots of people say 'Negging is bad because it's assuming you're coming from a place beneath her and you're trying to bring her down in value, so don't do it'' kind of thing.
Personally, I don't care about that so much, but I don't do it because it doesn't work! I've feld tested just about every 'PUA' trick
Some hot girl doesn't give a shit about your neg and won't try to qualify herself etc. You can throw an early, harmless 'tease' at her, and depening on what kind of girl she is, she might giggle or she might roll her eyes and walk away from you. But that kind of friendly tease won't have the desired effect a classic 'neg' was 'supposed' to have, anyway.
