The blog linear thinker did a rebuttal post to a bunch of uncited bullshit Manboobz said in that DV debtate with Paul Elam ages ago.

LT cited about 70 sources, one of which was research on why women apologize more. It's not about greater concern for the feelings of others--it's because women have a lower threshold for what they consider an offence worthy of an apology. This is true whether the offence is given or taken.

IOW, women are basically just more sensitive, which makes them both apologize more than men do, and expect to be apologized to more often than men do.

Woman: If it were me, I would expect an apology, so I should apologize.

Man: If it were me, I wouldn't expect an apology, so I'm just going to get on with my day.

That, or they are just acting submissive for whatever reason. When a dog rolls over onto its back, is that out of some kind of special concern for the feelings of others? Submissive behavior is a tactic.

It can also just be a gendered social expectation, and that's probably all that is going on with this.

My ex girlfriend never apologized to me once for anything, even when she knew she was in the wrong. I confronted about this, and she still refused to apologize, and said that I apologize too much.

But unlike this source, I'm not stupid enough to apply anecdotal evidence to an entire gender.

I have a young son and daughter. They are both sweet kids but he does say sorry more. He also shows more empathy and concern for others and is great at sharing with other kids. One time I bought them both ice cream cones and my daughter dropped hers on the ground, my son who was 3 at the time, went up to her and said she could have his.

Anyway, to make a short story long, he's also innately inquisitive and curious about everything but very active and hyper. He starts kindergarten in another year and judging by his personality, the current school setting is not going to be good for him.

If this were 50 years ago, they would literally beat the empathy and compassion out of him along with the curiosity so that he would sit quietly in the classroom. Nowadays they'll probably diagnose him with something: Autism, ADHD, or some as of yet undetermined psychological disorder, then drug him so that he "fits in".

A lot of women say sorry in settings where the "victim" is aware that they shouldn't be sorry and then feels guilty at feigned sympathy/empathy, and then the victim allows whatever happened to resolve without punishment or correction. Sometimes, saying sorry is just another way to work the system into believing that women are the victim.

There are many reasons people say sorry, and more and more often it is not said with sincerity. Even this graphic shows an angle where women are the victim by claiming they are more likely to feel bad, emotion, etc., thereby triggering the male empathy mechanism.

I would like to address this as a people issue.

The words, "I'm sorry" are essentially used to make the offender feel better for screwing up in some way. Oft times it is over used in an inappropriate way.

Step on someones foot, "I'm sorry" is the polite thing to say to someone in recognition of the accidental contact. Acceptable.

You fuck someones shit up, "I'm sorry" is unacceptable to me. A REAL apology is learning from the mistake, and not letting it happen again. Repeated instances of said mistake is proof positive that someone isn't sorry. Only using the words to make themselves feel better anbout being the dickwad.

I don't expect apologies from my kids. I expect recognition of the behavior, or circumstances leading to the situation, and an adjustment of thing and/or cognisance of the circumstances in order to avoid the same situation in the future.

Those are the only kind of apologies that mean anything.

Except that this is 100% true. Its a simple gender difference, that girls tend to care more about what other people are thinking. This doesn't mean they are more caring, it can just mean they are more easily offended and more anxious about social things (do my friends like me etc.) than men are.

That being said, a man CAN be more anxious about social things and be more easily offended than a girl can, but its just that its a characteristic that is more feminine.

Women may say sorry more, but its not because of anything related to being a caring individual. So you may ask, what is their reason for this? Simple, really it is, it is that women have so much more to apologize for because they do bad things more often. You apologize when you do something, therefore if this is a fact, so the above statement is true.
