Jesus Christ, this is by far one of the most saddening things I've seen.

[–]AlphaNathan 143 points144 points145 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Because it's so blatantly intentional.

[–]SpiritofJames 71 points72 points73 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Postmodern feminism. Not even once.

Yet the women's one doesn't consider they could abuse..

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The fact that they put "concerned about their abusive behavior" first is the problem. Where is the section on women anyway?

This is standard operating procedure throughout the Western world as a part of the Duluth Model.

[–]adelie42 20 points21 points22 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Still sick, but that explains things. That wiki article isn't pulling any punches when it comes to explaining their bias.

[–]MikeyMike01 5 points6 points7 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It never ceases to amaze me, how far feminists will go to spread their hateful propaganda

[–]Wraeclast_Exile 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

How can this follow the Duluth Model if it's in Australia? It does there, too?

[–]EricAllonde 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The Duluth model has been rolled out around the world, including Australia.

[–]TheShaneBennett 7 points8 points9 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

How can we bombard the men's line on how for men to report FEMALES abusing us? In Australia

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 9 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Worst thing about it is the thread topic is a repost and it's been like that for years.

Here's another Australian link where women are the victims and men are the perpetrators of violence.

Edit: The WA has been changed. Good.

[+]Seventh_Planet -7 points-6 points-5 points 9 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

No, it's just a very old repost. In the OP, I think the site was really as shown here. And after a rightful outcry, they changed it so it looks like you cited now.

[–]whymustinotforget 60 points61 points62 points 9 years ago* (7 children) | Copy Link

A friend posted it and I posted it without checking my sources, which is dumb. I'm glad to hear they changed it if that is the case.

Edit: they did not change it.

[–]slodojo88 points 9 years ago* [recovered] (2 children) | Copy Link

I'm not sure what you two are seeing, but I looked at the live version and it's the same as the picture you posted.

[–]Vapodaca17 49 points50 points51 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Ya it's the same still, no change

[–]whymustinotforget 32 points33 points34 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Oh well that's bs

[–]LEMental 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

" Information and support is also available for men who have experienced family and domestic violence. A telephone based interpreting service is available if required."

Yes, the other is mentioned first, but to say there inst an option for men being abused is disingenuous.

[–]lesbefriendly 4 points5 points6 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

They don't offer/mention help for women who are concerned about their violent and abusive behaviours.

[–]DegeneratesInc 4 points5 points6 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I went through the .pdfs on the men's 'help' page. All but one of them assume the man is the abuser.

[–]Halafax 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Try seeing a therapist after suffering abuse from a woman. If appropriately gendered materials exist, my therapists couldn't find them.

"Just change the genders in your head" doesn't work. This stuff is written to appeal to women and how they deal with issues. Most of it was useless for me, or worse.

When you bring this up, some apologize and shrug their shoulders, but most get defensive. It became my problem for not fitting their bias.

[–]Wraeclast_Exile 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

[–]ffj_ 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It is not irrelevant in the slightest. My comment is what I got from the post. Either way it's fucking awful.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

So let's pretend you're a man in an abusive relationship. You already feel like shit because you're a man right? You're bigger and stronger than her. She shouldn't be able to do these things to you. You feel like not only are you all the things she says, you're also a pussy for not living up to the macho hype. So you decide to do what we all do when shots going down; you hit up google. Now if you didn't feel like a giant piece of shit enough for your current situation, you come across a site where you have to comb through to find the resource you need buried under paragraphs reinforcing that yes, those feelings that something is wrong with you are actually true because women are supposed to be domestic violence victims, men are supposed to be oppressors and the possibility of it being the other way around is just an afterthought to PROFESSIONALS. Do you think you would try to seek help in that scenario? You'd probably do what a lot of men do and bury it out of embarrassment and co to us being abused for entirely too long because now a help service has reinforced your victimhood and victim mentality. That's like a rape site asking "were you leading the guy on?" On their front page....

[–][deleted] 69 points70 points71 points 9 years ago* (16 children) | Copy Link

Wow.... we should all contact them and point out just how rotten that is. A website like that blaming men for the abuse they go through. Are you joking.

Edit: I'm on the site now and there is no email, only phone and mailing address. I guess I'll be writing to them, then, since I'm in Canada lol

[–]Panel2468975 23 points24 points25 points 9 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

They are probably required to use the Duluth model by law, nothing they can do about it. Call your congressman instead.

[–][deleted] 15 points16 points17 points 9 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Not sure if I could do that, since I'm in Canada? Do I even have that right? I'd LOVE to, but..

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points9 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Call them anyway.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, screw it. They need to fix this, it's wrong. If they tell me they're under orders from someone else, THEN I'll contact them instead.

[–]emberfly 6 points7 points8 points 9 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I know, I'm in the US. No action I can take will matter since they don't serve me anyway.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points9 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

That's a rotten feeling, truly. There has to be something we can do :(

[–]scyth3s 10 points11 points12 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yeah, you can be rich and buy your own fucking senator.

If that seemed angry, it's at my government, not at you!

It's all good, I'm angry myself. And it's not even my country!!!

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]Luchadorgreen 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I don't think they use the Duluth Model yet in Australia. Could be wrong, though.

[–]GummibearFlakJacket 51 points52 points53 points 9 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

Are we really that shocked about this sort of stuff anymore? It's so prevalent and so casual that it doesn't even surprise me now.

[–]asillyduck_ 32 points33 points34 points 9 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

For that reason I just assume mothers hate their sons. Seriously how can you love your child and then let this stuff happen - or worse, actively vote for it, or take part in programs to spread more of it?

[–]GummibearFlakJacket 85 points86 points87 points 9 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Honestly, I think most women don't see it.

My own mother had her "ah ha" moment when I went through my first round of custody stuff about 4 years ago. She and my dad divorced in the early 90s, which pretty much ruined my dad financially for years to come. During that time I think she thought what was going on was just and right.

One day she came over for a visit and I allowed her to look through some of my legal paperwork before I went to court a few days later. She called me the next day and asked if she could come to court with me to be in my corner - she was also curious. It was to be the day that the judge ruled on whether he would allow my full custody case to go on, which was built around my sons Mom physically abusing me that she had been arrested for.

Shocker - the judge ruled it was so far in the past (less than 2 years) that it didn't matter at this time, and he threw it out. So I was dead in the water and had to maneuver for a favorable split custody arrangement.

Long story short, my mom cried all the way home. She brought up her and my father and how she realized that like me, he had gotten fucked over. She admitted that she felt partially responsible for the system being the way it is, "as a feminist".

Then something magical started happening - she took the time to look into the issues that men face. It was a 2 or 3 month journey for her and she has since sworn off feminism. I honestly think she spends more time looking into this stuff than I do nowadays.

I honestly believe that self proclaimed feminists need the same kind of wake up call that my mom had. If they see someone they know to be a good person, good father, etc. get fucked over by family court; it just may begin to change their minds.

[–]emberfly 33 points34 points35 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I honestly believe that self proclaimed feminists need the same kind of wake up call that my mom had.

That's unfortunate. That means hundreds of millions of more men screwed over by the legal system before any change happens.

If they see someone they know to be a good person, good father, etc. get fucked over by family court; it just may begin to change their minds.

That's worrisome.

[–]GummibearFlakJacket 16 points17 points18 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

You're not wrong on either account - though "hundreds of millions of men" is pretty far fetched.

My point is, if your average every day woman who thinks of herself as a feminist would simply take a look around and have a conversation with men who have been through the wringer, their impressions of the impact that feminism has on men's lives might change.

I'm certainly not arguing that we need to kick back, relax, and wait for women to see our suffering and rely on them to change the status quo.

Appreciate the opportunity to clarify.

[–]scyth3s 4 points5 points6 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Omg did you just mansplain to him?

[–]Drpained 10 points11 points12 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

My mother may be having that moment.

She had custody of my half-sister. During that time, she was ruthless about getting every penny she could from him. If there was any kind of hiccup in payment, she would immidiately begin emailing him to call him a deadbeat and a manchild. Part of this is her inferiority complex, because she's a perfectionist but also has crippling bipolar disorder such that she can't hold down a job and relies on her husband to keep her housed.

At 16, my sister moved to her dad's. Now, the courts are asking my mom to pay a fraction of what the father did. (I think roughly $300 a month, versus the $1,200 she was getting.) She hasn't been able to make a single payment. The courts haven't forced her to get employment or pay anything yet, but it's amazing how little empathy she has through this whole experience. Despite her bachelor's in Gender Studies, she's perfectly willing to apply gender roles as soon as it's beneficial but she's not able to see that men are people.

Admittedly, I don't live with her any more so I'm a neutral observer, but I don't see how anyone who isn't seeped in ideology could go through this and not have it click that they're a hypocrite.

[–]ieatcheese1 5 points6 points7 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The issue is that most of what feminism stood for has already been accomplished. There are still true feminists, the one who actually fight for equal rights for all, the ones who fight against bullshit custody cases where the mother clearly isn't fit. But that's like the 1% vs the 99% that think women should get half of everything in a divorce simply because they were married.

[–]adelie42 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I have some hope that The Red Pill might be able to provide that perspective to a broad audience that may not otherwise ever get to see.

Why is the information for abused men buried at the bottom?

Fucking hell. Queensland is just as bad as this. There was a big push in 'anti domestic violence month' to do a march to stand up against it as a community. There was a huge emphasis on stopping the violence against women with little mention of men. My school tried to get everyone in my cohort to go which I refused purely based on what I said earlier.

[–]Temere 15 points16 points17 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Western Australia

Yeah I'm not surprised sadly. Australia and some states have some pretty backwards ways of thinking when it comes to social issues, it's like we're a decade behind.

Remember we're the country that changed the law in 2004 to specifically (rather than by default) exclude same sex marriage.

[–]CyberBlaed 12 points13 points14 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Agreed, still tons of ads on tv about "no violence against women" here in victoria. It should be no domestic violence at all, period. But this is the narrative they push for of course.

Whole country has an issue, and the ch7 and 10 incidents just reinforce that fact. I mean .. andrew bolt of all people the one to get cassy on and talk about both sides of it all :/

[–]schmoogina 4 points5 points6 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

[–]starkillerrx 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Where's the option for women abusers to get help with their violent urges though? The fact that only the men's hotline has that option clearly shows their views on domestic violence .

[–]WolfShaman 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I completely agree. I was just pointing out that while it seems more like a side-thought, it is there.

[–]mikesteane 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

But the accommodation is only offered to women.

[+]MichaelRahmani -10 points-9 points-8 points 9 years ago (25 children) | Copy Link

I showed this to someone on the r/android discord and they pointed out something. On the second to last line of the one for men, it says the same thing that is underlined for women in the top picture. He also pointed out that it is arranged that way for men because men are statistically more likely to need help with the first one.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points9 points 9 years ago (19 children) | Copy Link

So his assumption is that men are more violent in general and is usually the abuser.

[+]AndySmalls -2 points-1 points0 points 9 years ago (18 children) | Copy Link

That's a completely fair assumption that is backed up by reams of data. Are you suggesting otherwise? Do you think domestic violence happens at similar rates for men and women?

60/40

"Men assaulted by their partners are often ignored by police, see their attacker go free and have far fewer refuges to flee to than women, says a study by the men's rights campaign group Parity."

Is this the best you've got? You honestly believe domestic violence is a 60/40 split?

[–]DegeneratesInc 7 points8 points9 points 9 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

I do. Most of the violence women use against men isn't physical violence, it's psychological and emotional abuse. That's actually worse than physical violence in many ways because it leaves no signs or scars to be assessed and that makes it difficult to be validated. Men must suffer insilence because they have no way to show what can't be seen.

I've watched a lot of women in action and they frequently dismiss their bullying and abuse as 'fun' or retribution for some minor slight. According to them, it's not up to them to stop being abusive, it's up to the man to 'man up' and grow a thicker skin.

[+]AndySmalls -7 points-6 points-5 points 9 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

Women are being killed dude. Fucking killed. According to this article at the rate of 3 per day in America.

You need to take a step back and think about what you are arguing here.

[–]DegeneratesInc 5 points6 points7 points 9 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Yeah. And the guy who lived next door was hounded to death by his wife. And another hanged himself because his SO used him as a toy for her amusement. And then there was the woman who accused her ex of rape, 18 months after the alleged offense but only 3 days after the eldest daughter (12 yo) said she wanted to live with her father and his gf instead. He would still be rotting in jail, but for one of her (now former) besties, who suddenly recalled that the 'victim' had actually been at a birthday party with nearly 50 other people while she was, apparently, changing her mind about having sex with her ex. She was barely scolded let alone charged with perjery and false accusation.

I'm getting more than a little weary of how in every thread about men being the target of DV, some feminist sympathiser just has to try to derail it by diverting attention to the poor victim women.

I've heard so much denial, obfuscation and outright stupidity from feminists about how pure and innocent and victimised women are. This abject fear of admitting to at least partial blame has changed my viewpoint considerably regarding who is the primary target in a DV situation.

Yeah, I know men can be violent, especially when they are reacting to being bullied. Maybe before you judge them harshly you might ask yourself: who raised those men?

[+]AndySmalls 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Have men been the victim of violence from women? Of course.

  • Me... Most down voted comment from 2 hours ago.

You are right, those are super shitty situations you laid out and their are some really sadistic crazy bitches out there. Thats just an obvious truth. However, I think it is also an obvious truth that physical domestic abuse is far more prevalent among men. If only because on average we are physically stronger and have the means to seriously beat someone down if one was so inclined... on average.

[–]DegeneratesInc 4 points5 points6 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I really think the focus on physical abuse is hyped simply because it is visible. When a woman physically abuses a man she feeds him crap food or doesn't rinse his shorts or scrubs the toilet with his toothbrush. Very subtle and always invisible - because if she leaves any trace her target (and others) might notice who is the real abuser here.

Psychological and emotional abuse can be deadly. It's time we stopped ignoring it and denying how damaging it is because it's killing people. A lot of it slips under the radar because suicides are blamed on dead people, not bullies.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, and we also are more likely to get arrested if we defend ourselves.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Who. Gives. A. Fuck?

[–]Madusch 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'd even go so far and say domestic violence is a 50/50 split, since a lot of men wouldn't admit it they are abused, because they might be afraid of the public humiliation.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You are a piece of shit.

[–]EricAllonde 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Here in Australia, the rate of intimate partner homicides is: 64.9% female victims, 35.1% male victims.

In terms of domestic violence more generally: women are violent in 84.7% of incidents while men are violent in 64.3% of incidents. (The total is higher than 100% because 49% of DV incidents are reciprocal, i.e. both parties being violent).

So overall, women are violent more often than men, when it comes to DV.

Because men are stronger, they are more likely to inflict serious injuries than women are. Women are far more likely to use knives and other weapons - in fact men very rarely use weapons in DV - but this only partly closes the gap when it comes to inflicting serious injuries or death.

[–]morerokk 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

says a study by the men's rights campaign group Parity."

"It's from a source that I don't like, so it must be wrong!"

Do you really think a feminist organization would be willing to publish this stuff? Feminism has worked very hard to erase male abuse victims already, they sure as hell won't admit that it's 60/40.

You honestly believe domestic violence is a 60/40 split?

That's not an argument, that's an emotional appeal.

[–]AxionGaming 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Well don't a lot of domestic violence cases against men never get reported? Don't a lot of these cases get ignored by the cops?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yes, it does.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

So you and your friend believe in denying services to ALL males based on the group who do commit domestic violence?

[–]MichaelRahmani -1 points0 points1 point 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

No, I do not believe that. The services should be equal for men and women.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Well I hate to break it to you, but the wording in that ad is detrimental to this goal. No matter the justifications behind it.

"Hello? Is this the Men's domestic violence helpline? Yes, I was wondering if you could help me. I'm concerned I'm not violent and abusive enough towards my partner - how can you help me to be more so?"

[+]AndySmalls -13 points-12 points-11 points 9 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

This isn't some great injustice. Men commiting violence against women is a serious issue in society. This provides a service for guys with anger issues to talk about their problems.

Have men been the victim of violence from women? Of course. Is it even close to the number of women abused by men? You all know damn well that it isn't.

Full blown pathetic. Get your heads out of your asses.

[–]Dancing_Anatolia 9 points10 points11 points 9 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Of course, obviously it's alright for men to be beaten and emotionally traumatized and never get any help, because we're all expendable savages.

[+]AndySmalls -4 points-3 points-2 points 9 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Is that remotely what I said?

As others have pointed out that helpline is literally also for men who are victims of domestic violences (See the second last sentence). However, men physically abusing women is an issue several orders of magnitude larger than the opposite situation. This is a service to help men with anger issues.

[–]Dancing_Anatolia 10 points11 points12 points 9 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Then put it on a website that deals with anger issues. To me, this says "If you're going to an abuse hotline and your a woman, you're being abused and need help. If you're going here as a guy, you're a fucking asshole who needs to be stopped". That doesn't paint a very secure picture for men who need help. In fact, I'd say it might drive away someone who truly needs help.

[+]AndySmalls -3 points-2 points-1 points 9 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

You don't think it's possible that an abusive man, with anger issues, in a moment of clarity and wanting to better himself might google "domestic violence" in an attempt to seek help? I think your reading of this might say more about you than the people that created this website.

[–]Dancing_Anatolia 6 points7 points8 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

To your first point, probably not. They say that abuse occurs in cycles, and that's because abusive people don't change. A moment of clarity is followed by months of asshole-ishness.

I think the people who created this website betray what they truly think of men. That women can't abuse us, because men aren't abuse-able. Well, to give you a little fact, women can abuse men. And hell, I'm not even considering gay relationships, wherein a man abuses another man, or a woman abuses another woman. Where do the gender-role toters go then?

[+]AndySmalls 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I think we need to separate physical abuse from mental abuse. I'm coming at this from a strictly physical stand point. There is just a natural imbalance of physical power between men and women that unfortunately manifests itself as violence in a small handful of assholes. Woman are obviously master mental abusers. I have no argument there.

Maybe I'm reading it incorrectly but I feel like that physical imbalance is all they betrayed.

[–]Dancing_Anatolia 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

You know, that's fair enough. I believe mental issues shouldn't just be swept under the rug, particularly because they're so hard to spot ( and thus can fester), but men 100% beat women more often than women beat men.

[+]AndySmalls 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's literally all I'm saying and why I think a post like this is disingenuous. Services like this are fundamentally designed to deal with physical violence because its "easy" and finite. Mental abuse is a far more complicated issue in a relationship and requires therapy and self reflection... not a hotline.

[–]RapeMatters 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The CDC reports that 43% of domestic violence victims in the US are men. Over 50% in the one year period prior to the survey.

Women perpetrate 70% of nonreciprocal domestic violence.

The numbers are close, despite your attempt to minimize victims of domestic violence based on their gender.

[–]JestyerAverageJoe 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'd forgive domestic violence against you.

[+][deleted] -17 points-16 points-15 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

[–]JestyerAverageJoe 8 points9 points10 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Actually, women commit the majority of spousal and child abuse, degenerate fucktard.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
