The Bureau of Labor statistics which measures and reports the gender “wage gap” clear indicates it is a comparison of median earnings, not a comparison of equal work.

The great thing about posts like this is to show how to respond efficiently in fewer words than the trolls' questions.

Everyone knows the wage gap is fake. The trolls think it's funny to pretend that they don't.

Due to the fact that not a single serious economist will support the concept of men being paid more than women. I have managed to reduce the answer to just 4 words.

And then just sit back and watch them do it.

The first webpages that appear are always highly credible sources explaining how it is not true. I also use this technique on the genuinely stupid who have fallen for the lie. The look on their faces as they read the articles is hilarious as they struggle to come to terms with the truth.

I love how they point to the top of men and compare them with average women. We need to look at the homeless gap, the life expectancy gap, the suicide rate gap, and the education gap. We need to help men do better in all of these issues which I would say are way more important. Imagine how women are overachieving, and for some reason they claim they are earning less when every time we check we debunk this.

Even if you debunk the wage gap, feminists will still say all your points are because of sexism.

The wage gap, no matter how many times it's debunked, will never be allowed to be debunked by feminists because they'll simply blame sexism for why "men are more competitive", "work longer hours", etc. They'll continue to blame sexism for everything under the sun. I'm sure feminists have come up with some kind of reason/justification for why companies don't hire all women, and I'm sure they'll say it's rooted in sexism.

This is a quote from Anita Sarkeesian I'll never forget: "When you start learning about systems, everything is sexist, everything is racist, everything is homophobic, and you have to point it all out to everyone all the time, so there's a good YEAR of my life where I was the most obnoxious person to be around".

Men earn any higher earnings they receive. Far more men than women choose to go into STEM, despite there being zero barriers for women. Far more men go into the trades, which are the highest source of good paying large job fields that don't require college. Men dominate in dangerous and / or physically demanding jobs. When men account for over 90% of workplace injuries and deaths, they deserve that extra money. Men also, on average, work more hours than women. I've never seen a woman doing 60-70 hour weeks in a trade field, and making most of their pay via overtime. I'm sure it happens, but it's much more common for men.

The wage gap is pushed by feminists to get laws passed that favor women over men. Politicians push it to pander for women's votes. It is all a lie.

Absolutely, I was disappointed when a woman who is a mother figure to me and very intelligent told me that the wage gap is Absolutely real and purely because of sexism, I really can't understand how something that is so easily explained and disproven is such a hard to understand thing for woman. I believe the confusion regarding this topic is what the wage gap actually is about. Yes 2 people doing the exact same job, with the same experience, will likely be paid the same. The wage gap is more about the fact that male dominated jobs are often paid more than women dominated job. For example, working as a plumber tends to pay more than working as a hairdresser.

What feminist tends to forget is the reason for this diparity is usually just a supply/demand thing. Not many people are willing to be plumbers and its a hard job. Many women are willing to be hairdressers. Its not some sort of evil plot by men to underpay women...

Teen Stage 1: I was naive and believed the wage gap lie.

Adolescent Stage 2: I stopped caring about leftist agendas and started being neutral to wage gap and didn't think about it. I regret not realizing earlier that it's a lie. But I was thinking even if women were paid less, they won't live in poverty just because they were allegedly paid less.

During my Eagle Scout court of honor (basically the award ceremony), one of the Eagles was one of the newer girls in scouts. During her speech, she went on for 15+ minutes about how the male patriarchy oppressed women for centuries and how it’s amazing that it’s taken “this long” for it to start “crumbling down”. Later, a woman who worked in engineering went up to her and basically shit on her for a couple minutes straight about how as a female engineer, she never once felt oppressed or at a disadvantage. Mind you, the girl giving the speech wasn’t even 18 and grew up in a pretty wealthy county, and I almost guarantee she’d never been discriminated against

It is insane when the obvious answer is men work more hours than women and thus get paid more overall. Women tend to get knocked up by the local Chad and have to take half a year off from work 2-3 times in their lives then come back and have to play catch up each time. Some men go on paternal leave too but it's pretty much automatic for women.

It's not a woman thing. It's a people thing. Humans have so many innate drives, but the need to avoid responsibility / criticism is perhaps one of the strongest. Whether it's responsibility to others or ourselves, the desire to remain blameless in our own minds is very strong. So when someone says "women make less money" which is objectively true, the natural reaction in their minds is to look for a reason that does not tarnish their own self image. If it cannot be "my fault" it must then be some outside force creating this set of circumstances.

A very effective way of manipulating people's beliefs is to give them an uncomfortable truth and then provide a more comfortable lie or half truth to explain it for them. So you can get normally intelligent people to believe really stupid things because it's emotionally palatable for them to do so.

Again, I have to state that everyone does this in some capacity. It's typical human psychology.

I’ve seen it attributed to women opting to be mothers.

My wife caught a little bit of bullying by her boss after having our son. “Oh, do you miss your son”. “Should you go to that training if you’re going to quit anyways”. “You can’t do part time”.

These were all statements made without my wife even bringing up the topic.

Her boss was a woman.

This is what is meant by the Patriarchy. Patri in the sense of father, not men. Patronize. Paternalism.

I'm a woman. I believe most of the wage gap is due to women choosing certain fields and women working less hours due to maternity. That said, it does bring up an issue. Why do jobs like personal support workers, teachers, educators and other jobs in the "caring" industry pay so little? Why do we place so little value in that industry as opposed to let's say masons? I make more than a personal support worker or a teacher and really shouldn't.

I want to add one more reason why men earn more. Or what seems like it: added responsibility.

My ex was a nurse in an institution. One of the male nurses there doubled also as a security guy and a muscle guy. If bed 19 needed a change and they needed someone strong to move the patient they called him. If patient X started behaving bizarrely and needed restraint they called him. Naturally he earned more than the women there but his job included more duties.

So on paper it looked like the guy earned more than the ladies on the same unit. And indeed he did earn more. But he had 1.5 jobs more than them. So it's fair.

Every situation is unique, and there are many factors. There are wage gaps and it is measurable, and this is actually something measured. But at the same time, gender is just one of many factors. Unfortunately, some feminists only look at one factor, the gender, and then apply a neo-Marxist ideology called "equality of outcomes" that requires discrimination on the basis of identity to implement.

Wage gaps in unskilled labor can be measured, as the job duties can be well defined, but the moment it goes professional work for knowledge workers, this is not easily measured, especially in technology. Companies will seek to higher the most talented, not the cheapest, and salaries can get excessive for top talent, especially for those that can negotiate.

Still, there is discrimination sadly. You would think that because the need for top talent, classic prejudices would not be prevalent due to extreme demand in the industry, but this isn't necessarily true. In companies like Apple and Google that have more formalized definitions of role categories, there have been cases where high performing women lose out in comp packages, while male counterparts in the same group get more bonuses, raises, promotions, privileges (such as greater flexibility to work from home). In these situations, it is pretty obvious. But these cases are not something that clustered and measured easily.

It is important to not get sucked ideologies that you observe from many women (and also men, as many men are following this too). Just as generalization of men, generalization all women is not cool either. People, male, female, other identity are unique, situations vary, discriminate is real.

TL;DR Across the board wage gap? where gender is the only factor, nope.

I always ask them:

Are you measuring those statistics by the average hourly wage or the gross anual income?
If it's the second, did you considered that are many variables for it? starting by the amount of hours worked, the actual hourly wage, etc?
what's the wage difference for the same position, similar work experience and education level?

They response? "Stop mansplaining us! misogynistic man-child. Of course, they have no idea and only limit themselves parroting what other female chauvinistic feminists say.
