Generalizations are, at times, necessary for communication. E.g.: Italian food is delicious. French cuisine is rich.

But abuse of generalization often leads to discrimination. Pure and simple.

What bother me is that people aren't that statistically intelligent. They end up misinterpreting things and can't take them with a grain of salt

Stereotypes are based on pattern recognition but not all are attacks.

"Men are predators" and "women are manipulative gold diggers" are sweeping, damning generations.

-"Men care a lot about sex" and "women are looks/money orientated" aren't generalisations based on attacking, it's just a part of nature.

Generalizations are useful and even necessary to make sense of the world. People using generalizations in an intellectually lazy way, or an outright dishonest way when they know better, is stupid.

I think it’s not stupid.

If you understand how probability distributions work, such statements describe the MEDIAN behavior of men/women

So of course you have outliers, but they don’t disprove the distribution.

So it is totally accurate to make a generalized statement like “women are sexually very attracted to tall, dominant, muscular, rich, high status men” if you replace “women” with “median behavior of women in a sufficiently large sample size” in your head

This is because humans are very predictable and our behavior has been shaped by evolution and sexual selection

Of course people are individuals and despite whatever generalizations you make, everyone is going to be different. And, even if we did say “oh XYZ generalizations do happen”, not everyone, not even the majority of people, operate according to the gender stereotypes proposed on here. Not everyone is playing the dating game of high value whatever they call it. Not everyone is operating accounting to patriarchal gender norms, despite the fact we’re are socialized according to them to an extent.

But that being realistic and appreciating people as people isn’t convenient for certain ideologies. They want scapegoats and bogeymen so they have to villainize men or women, or subsets of men and women, to make their point and justify why they behave the way they do.

It’s pretty sad, but whoever needs to be told that seeing things this way is unrealistic and stupid isn’t going to change.

Sex on the other hand is immutable.

I don’t think they’re “almost always stupid.”

They are often incorrect relative to a certain perspective, but generalizations help communicate information about empirical trends. It depends on what the person is trying to communicate whether such generalizations are ‘stupid,’ ‘false,’ or ‘unhelpful.’

Unfortunately, the main point and intention of the speaker is not always clear, especially online, which leads to conflict.

Saying "men/women are x" is never supposed to mean "every man/woman everywhere in existence that has ever lived are xyz." Most of the time they're made to illustrate some very common behavior. Maybe women being sexy for money is too specific and therefore doesn't work, but saying women will be sexy for traits they find attractive in men (including money) is like... no one would really say that's inaccurate. There's only a problem with generalizations when they are clearly flat out wrong, lol.

Generalizations are fine when you are dealing with large quantities of people, but aren't all that useful on individual level, unless it's some generalization that works for 95% of population, like "Women prefer tall men".

Generalizations that have stood the test of time, even though you may not fit into them at all times, are generally accurate. For example, the generalization that "women are attracted to men with money/fame" is true because it has stood the test of time, and it is evident. Does that mean all women are?, no.

Generalizations are a vital part of argumentation since discuting exceptions are counter productive and discussing peoples is just gossip. The objective of a discussion is to trade ideas and the core of ideas is the generalization.

I don’t know any red pill guru that didn’t acknowledge that outliers and exceptions exist. Generalizations are useful because outliers are rare. “The book of numbers: analyzing the roi on the pursuit of women” breaks down the math behind this.

That doesn't negate our ability to generalize groups. It just requires us to keep in mind that our conclusions will not be valid for all members of the group.

I hope most people are intelligent/educated enough to understand what a generalization is without need to tell them everytime that water is wet.

Every social science stands on generalizations without them there is nothing at all.

There are consistencies among genders tho, your gender influences your personality. Some groups have members that impose rules based on the beliefs of extremists and even the moderates fall in line, therefore everyone is at fault. If you go to a country where men are brutalizing women and even moderate men are neutral in the face of this for example I would not be surprised if those women there start to make generalizations about men. Can you blame them? We are human not logically calculated robots. Its about self preservation.
