Humans have a general fascination with the taboo

A lot of people who engage in some of the more wild kinks are victims of sexual abuse. They see it as an act of empowerment where they "reclaim" their sexuality by reenacting abuse in a consensual environment

I think the idea of maintaining purity has a lot of validity too.

This place isnt the best for discussions about the darker aspects of sexuality though.

I've been a pro-domme for over a decade.

Kink is often connected to anxiety. Male subs often fantasize about SPH and cuckolding, because those are things that scare men. Women grow up being taught to fear sexual violence constantly.

But there's no pat explanation for why people are kinky and the answers are going to vary from person to person and you're probably onto something in some cases. I think a lot of male subs into forced bi like the idea that they can explore their attraction to men while retaining some semblance of heterosexuality. (Because it's "forced" and they're doing it for the humiliation factor, not the dick.)

This is anecdotal but as an old guy, in the last few years I’ve had sex with women in their 20’s 30’s and 40’s.

I don’t have a huge sample size but I can say without a doubt the women in their 20’s and early 30’s (basically gen Z and millennials) were way more into shit like choking, slapping, spitting, throat fucking and being called names.

The older women were almost all vanilla.

My theory is that as wokeness, feminism and SJW culture become more a part of younger womens consciousness, the taboo factor goes way up for being treated like a dirty little slut.

Basically, they feel like they have to be closeted about the darker “problematic” aspects of their sexuality lest they be cast out and judged by the sisterhood so they go HAM with degradation kinks in the bedroom as a result.

I think that fantasies of having power taken away tend to be most common among those (of all genders) who have some power to take away. We see this fairly clearly in men too...men with power are more likely to seek domination services. I mean not that fantasies of having power taken away are nonexistent in those without much power, but the less power the person has the more mild, stylised and therefore safe and predictable and in control the fantasies tend to be. Hence nurse novels and bodice rippers as recreational reading for working class women in private vs liking to be spat on and beaten by an actual real partner.

So I don't think that overall it is, at least in its current modern incarnation, all about avoiding societal judgement for wanting sex. Particularly ridiculous is thinking it is about that among demographics that tend to be out, proud and unashamed about sexuality. If a college girl is not reluctant to get chatted up in front of her friends, take you home and then post a pic of you at breakfast the next day it beggars belief that the reason she asked to get held down during sex was to attain some sort of plausible deniability for the fact she likes dick.

People have kinks for all kinds of reasons. If you don’t have any recurring kinks or if you haven’t really explored yourself in a sexual way (through repression, no partner, or shame) then you’re just not gonna understand. I mean, you could understand obviously but IMO most people have trouble understanding that other people have different perspectives and feelings.

Fear responses and arousal responses both play with our adrenaline system and release endorphins.

Social context can definitely play a role. A lot of really religious people have virginity kinks, for example. Some women who feel shame around being sexual or slutty do need permission to be sexual or someone else needs to take responsibility/blame for her sexuality.

People also experience kinks based on their inner complexes. Someone with issues around worthiness may like when someone gives praise or the opposite, maybe they enjoy being talked down to.

Dominance and submission can be expressed in a lot of ways.

Denial of a woman’s sexuality has not lead to a rise in degradation kinks. Women have likely always had variations of this and other kinks and historians confirm this. But we can all finally express what we like a bit more openly and honestly.

One factor comes down to how there is a lot of discussion about how almost all paraphilias come down to deep feelings of inadequacy that have gone unchecked. Our online society is not remotely close to an environment there we build people up, and is partially based on shredding short, fat, weird, stupid, poor people, all races, basically anyone is a victim in some way etc I expect people to be living in a fairly sad state since having a stable and positive self view is increasingly uncommon these days.

I’ve found the opposite to be true. The most feminist minded and openly sexual women who grew up in very openly sexual households had these kinks. I don’t think they are getting this from historical denial of sexuality. That would be like downloading historical trauma from previous unrelated generations into your brain. There's an impossible to perfectly define distinction between a kink and just enjoying displays of dominance.

On the whole, men wanting to be dominated in bed is inherently more of a kink. I think it's natural for women to want some degree of dominating in bed, and so it needs to go much further between it can be considered a kink.

I think it has more to do with the universal, or at least western, acceptance of women as dominant go-getters in their everyday lives, as well as the taboo of women submitting to men. When you suppress a part of your nature you push it into the subconscious, where from it emerges again in the form of uncontrollable urges, if not neurosis or psychosis. Tl;Dr; Feminism is to blame.

I think that might be something to this in a very small way but I think really when it comes to kinks and most sexual things in the modern day I think this does discussion about them in an open forum whether it be the internet or loosen moral standards has increased participation.
