Men in the UK are more aware of this injustice. The majority of people I have spoken to think it should be illegal.

Those people who have foreskins, never describe it as just a flap of skin. It's only people without foreskins that do that.

There are many who have empathy and compassion, but not enough to turn the tide on tradition and commercial benefit.

I'm amazed that there is sexual anti-discrimination enshrined in law and yet we still have double standards in practice.

Perhaps those who don't have an issue are those who aren't affected or are influenced by Stockholm Syndrome.

Alot of people here in scandinavia care, when i talk to them they are overwhelmingly against the practice.. then when you talk to Americans it's a completely different story.

Alot of the Americans even challenge you on the fact that the frenulum and tip of the foreskin are highly sensitive and erogenous parts.. it's like a lost knowledge there... Americans are truly living in their own little universe.

Some men do not understand how bad circumcision is. Most people do not understand how bad circumcision is.

Aside from the obvious barbarism, circumcision removes half of the nerves in the penis, and it would follow that you therefore only experience half of the sexual pleasure you would otherwise. This part is not talked about because there has not been much research on the matter, only surveys from what I found, and silly enough they included people who were circumcised from birth, as if they have any referential experience.

There are many men who will never have the sexual fulfillment they once had when their foreskin was intact. Men circumcised from birth will never understand what healthy, normal sexual contact feels like.

You are correct, it is a men's rights issue and we care about it, but it is focused on by intactivists, rather than general men's rights. From what I have seen this sub is more general.

Because most men who have been circumcised will need to come to terms with the fact that they have been mutilated against their will.

It's an incredibly inconvenient and uncomfortable reality to have to face, so it's generally easier to keep ignoring it and living in blissful ignorance.

Here in the UK, this 'tradition' does not exist outside of religious or true medical practice.

Obviously, for guys, like me, who live in countries, where that crazy barbaric tradition is not practiced (aside from heavy cases of phimosis), have no reason to care about.

If you are talking about USA, that there is intactivist movement there.

From what I've seen from the men on these posts that say they don't see it as a big deal or like what happened, the general consensus is mostly that because their penis is still functional, and they have no concept of what it was like before because of the event happening in infancy, those men think "it's good enough" or were conditioned into thinking "I'm glad it happened before I could remember" as if it were something that needed to happen, or even end up thinking it was beneficial because of some negligible or bogus observation that a different, less invasive method could usually replicate or make obsolete.

I think in order to make more men care about it, especially in places like America where it's become so heavily normalized, we need to find a way to shut down the propaganda and properly educate soon-to-be parents so that they don't passively accept every procedure the doctor tries just because they don't understand the purpose and method.

Several reasons I can think of:

Makes men look anti-feminist = anti-women to society
Society is ignorant of mens issues, thus bringing you back to #1
Men who are passionate about mens issues are probably seen as weak or pathetic, because we are the "stronger" sex

Personally for me I’m fine with the fact that I am circumsized, I like the look of it better and I don’t remember the procedure obviously so I genuinely couldn’t careless nor is it something I think about.

I do think the act of it is fucking weird and inhumane, I think I’m more whatever to it because it’s been normalized for so long. But giving thought to the procedure in general, it’s ridiculous

Couple things:

Men do care, for example there are tens of thousands subscribed to the Foreskin Restoration subs, and that's just subscribers on one niche sub on one site, so the actually # of men who aren't happy about their cut penis is probably orders of magnitude higher.
Why don't more men speak out? Because once an evil becomes large enough, social order demands that we make it invisible.

There are about 330 million Americans (dealing only with Americans right now to make things simpler), so about 165 million American men, of those varying rates of cuts in demographics/ages/locations/etc, but I think 80% is probably a reasonable estimate.

If we accept the premise that MGM is wrong, not just wrong, but evil, what does it mean for our society, that 80% of the male population is a victim of it? That their parents and doctors, the people in the world most responsible for protecting them, are the perpetrators of it? That every single level of society has failed to protect them from it or offer them any redress of their grievance?

These things are simply too much trauma for any society to bear. Which is why MGM will never, in our lifetimes, be recognized as "bad" by American society. Not until long after we are all dead and as a practice it has been relegated to the dustbin of history, and no one is any longer alive who has any connection to the practice, will society allow for the possibility of recognizing the harm it caused.

I think it is because in some cases it is tradition. Just like women getting their ears pierced.

I was surprised that girls in their teens get their ears pierced here in America, where in India girls get their ears pierced as babies.

Most men are not in pain or dysfunctional from circumcision, just like how most women are not in pain or dysfunctional from getting their ears pierced.

We have laws to prevent the harvesting of tissues on death, without prior consent, because it is such a big deal and yet the foreskins of boys are harvested whilst they are alive, without their consent, and without pain relief and then often used for profit with the boy not receiving any compensation but the opposite in loss of function.

This breaks most of the rules we have in society, including the hypocratic oath and is a double standards abomination.

Can you imagine society accepting the harvesting of clitorises of girls in the same way?

I say this as someone who agrees with you, but to understand the other side you have to play devil's advocate. What are the problems with circumcision that we can use to scare people? Occasionally a traditional circumcision, where it is not done by a doctor with sterile technique, results in horrifying infection or death. But those cases are few and far between.

How about the fact that men lose a significant amount of sensation due to the lost nerve endings? Not life threatening.

How about the sheer needlessness of the act? Well, no one has an innate interest in men's happiness like they do for women. If anything, we're seen as the antagonist between the two genders. So there's no animosity we can harness to create a movement for change. Quite the opposite. Every legitimate men's rights movement is met by rabid opposition from female support groups.

I think we just have to accept that the human race does not and will never care about men or look out for our best interests. The absolute best we can do is push for equality initiatives, and latch on to female rights movements to seek similar rights. Turn every discussion about FGM into a discussion about an equal right between the genders to not experience genital mutilation.

But this issue seems largely lost on the majority. I think we will see fewer couples opting into circumcision moving forward simply because of the decline of religiosity, but I think most people still consider circumcision to be about cleanliness. Many western women are also culturally used to circumcised penises, and may continue the tradition just because it is the norm to them. That's why my mother had me circumcised.

Keep fighting. It's a battle that will not see a decisive victory any time soon, but the more we talk about it, the more quickly the tradition will recede.

Partial circumcision has health benefits & should be available. Taking a blade to the genitals of children for religious purposes is cruel and barbaric. Have heard that males with partial circumcision have a much lower chance of catching AIDS and many other STDs.

Honestly because most man have no problem with it. I have two point to add to that:

1 . I was circumcised with 18 years because of medical reasons. So i know the before and after. I am now over 32 years old. I can tell you and all those who where circumcised as a child. You are not missing out on sensitivity and so on. If anything orgasm are a bit more intense or better said longer (i think "longer" defines it best for me). Before circumcision they where very short. The saying goes: you want what you can't have. Most men in the US were circumcised after birth and now they think they are missing out. I can't confirm that from personal experience. In my case, there were medical reasons (short frenulum which kept tearing) and I thought about it for several months and waited before I decided to have myself circumcised. My doctor offered me several alternatives besides circumcision. In retrospect, circumcision was a good decision. Sex and masturbation were better for me, especially the orgasm was much longer. However, these are purely my experiences, I cannot speak for others.

The overriding of consent could be seen as a problem here. But I think there is a bit of overdramatisation here, equating male circumcision of the foreskin with female circumcision. These two things are not comparable, both anatomically and in terms of their effects on sexual life. Nevertheless, it could be argued that this is an intrusion into self-determination which, apart from the fact that it is performed, does not have any negative effects. There may even be advantages, although more scientific research is needed (see reduced infection with papiloma viruses in circumcised men, etc., HIV risk, etc. ...., but most of the advantages tend to benefit the wives of circumcised men rather than the men themselves).
