There are tons of studies out there showing a correlation between marriage and a high quality of life. This makes people falsely conclude that marriage leads to a high quality of life. This is a huge talking point for convincing men to get married.

However, I contend that the only reason marriage stats look favorable is because of hypergamy. It is often because a man has a high quality of life that he gets married. The marriage doesn't trigger the high quality of life. If you broke down the stats of the married people, you would find a lot of doctors, businessmen, handsome and healthy guys. But if you break down the unmarried guys, you will find a lot of homeless men, drug addicts and other dregs of society skewing the stats. It is disingenuous to have such data and say voila! Marriage leads to a happy life!

A fair study that needs to be done is one where they consider married men vs bachelors who meet women's hypergamous standards of looks, money and status, I can bet my house that the quality of life between those two groups of men will be exactly the same. It's only when you include the bachelors who don't meet hypergamous thresholds that things start looking bad on the unmarried side of the equation. Therefore the ideal for men is to be marriage material, but not get married.
