Last Friday, the leaders of the Russian-backed self-declared Donetsk and Luhansk republics -- which are not recognized by the West -- ordered the mass evacuation of women, children and the elderly, while barring men aged 18 to 55 from leaving.

While women are allowed to leave, men are not. Instead they are being mobilized into the separatist militias. This is a human rights violation.

Regarding restrictions on crossing the border to leave Ukraine by a certain category of citizens

The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine reports that due to the imposition of martial law in Ukraine, the departure of a certain category of citizens from Ukraine is temporarily restricted.

In particular, male citizens of Ukraine aged 18 to 60 are prohibited from leaving Ukraine.

Such a rule will apply for the period of martial law.

We ask citizens to take this information into account.

These people do not have the authority to order anything. Detaining the 18 to 55 men of these areas is abduction. I am no expert on the law or politics of Ukraine. But if there is justice, the separatist leadership will be tried for these actions and punished.

Saddened by the comments here, such pettiness and insincerity. This is terrible and serious, very serious. This is murder, not something to bicker over and shouldn't be a reason to shit on people having nothing to do with it.
