I’d add that all this vile terminology we see touted about this place, such as people being objectively ‘high/low value’, is an extension of the capitalist mindset that reduces people into simple commodities.

sex was always ripe to be monetized. Why you you think prostitution is called "the oldest profession in the world"?

So what stopped it from it being monetized by the masses? well, for starters, morals and that applies even today as the percentage of women who do actually monetize it is still small. But, I can agree that the percentage is larger than what it was 100 years ago. So what changed in those 100 years? The biggest factor to limit women's sexuality was always (fear of) pregnancy. Even today, single mothers are looked down upon as having made bad decisions, so even in a modern world, where sex is pretty much destigmatized, pregnancy is still not. We have somewhat managed to separate sex from pregnancy as people can pretty much have as much sex as they want without getting anyone pregnant.

I think that the problem is more the idea that there is always perceived to be something more (for men) or something better (for women) due to the internet showing us how many hot people are actually out there. The money aspect just gives more of an incentive to explore this, with average men using stuff like OnlyFans to explore connections with the hottest women they can, and average women using money from sex services to make themselves look more attractive and conceivably attract better men than their average looks might normally suggest.

The problem is not economics so much as atomization. People would rather fulfill their own individual fantasies than develop actual connections with each other.

I really wish someone would do a study on just how many woman are on sugar dating websites (seeking arrangements etc). Because as a 22f, it seems like atleast half the girls I know have atleast used those sites. Obviously it would vary from city to city (I live in a city with high income inequality). And obviously there are woman who just arent attractive enough to be able to participate, as well as too old (its a young womans game), but it still seems like a decent chunk of woman in their early 20s are sugar babies.

I do believe capitalism has a lot to do with this: when women (and a lot of men) are struggling to tread water with poverty wages, they turn to ol reliable. Sex for money.

In the US, the 1% have so much money that the lower class is literally starving for a slice of the pie, and are almost forced to do this. The only thing next they could possibly sell are organs and limbs.

Eh, this is very obviously a take that exists only filtering in a womans perspective. It's serving one viewpoint pretty clearly but not any others given that the only non gender neutral point is landing on male deficiency.

You're bringing Zizek into this but Zizek isn't just some anti capitalist. Zizek went on at length about ideology and how ideology influences peoples desire for sex and relationships. Actually getting his philosophy right means not only is the hyper capitalism the problem, but that TRP and FDS exist AT ALL, same as the older ideologies that spawned them.

I would go so far as to say these ideologies are a more dangerous form of capitalism than porn sickness or dating apps. You can unplug from porn and reset yourself after like a month or two. You can leave dating apps and many do. But TRP and FDS will tell you what to beliece and offer you a product catered to a specific demographic and oncs you're hooked theres no shortage of content for you to consume or dating gurus with their own spin on it trying to make a quick buck.

Hell look at here. Mrs. Degree hawks any half decent thread onto social media for clout and theres no shortage of wannabe Zizeks in a place like this. I can tell you right now that I've heard "feminist scholars" who go to subs like this and talk to like 2 incels and do the interview circuit and publish some book to make money off their ideology they think we should all be using to cut reality with like a bad cocktail.

I know the RP dudes are going to reply, with something like this is just reality, and its better to live in reality than in a comfortable fantasy, and yada yada. But I wonder if they have just become market objects, and like many slaves have come to love their bonds and servitude.

Since you apparently find the truth you so eloquently recognized to somehow simultaneously be trite, here's the real reality: it's all a package deal. You want non-conmodified, you have to put down all of it: the phone, the computer, the easy processed food and clothes and images, probably even the electricity.

I'm wrong?

Who do you see, which society do you'd see, that has this figured out in any less absurdist way than any other?

The free market is the symbolic and practical embodiment of the choices each individual has. Everyone is able to “put their money where their mouth is”, and support the causes most dear to them. Additionally, it’s very difficult to paint a picture, on a macro scale, of why men are using sugar dating sites, onlyfans, and other paid porn subscriptions. But what we do know is that they’ve had the opportunity to make that choice thanks to capitalism.

The free market follows the basic principles of demand and supply: If there were no demand for these services, the supply wouldn’t be as big as it is.

What exactly is "late stage capitalism" and what comes after it? Anti-capitalism viewpoints are typically held by those with very little understanding of economics. Capitalism is simply any economic activity or exchange without centralized control. A subsistence farmer that lives off his own land is technically capitalism. The only alternative is a corruption-based system of central management that has failed miserably time and again over the last 100 years -- Soviet factories were vastly less efficient than Western ones and Soviet computers were still using vacuum tubes into the 1980s.

Also, anybody that claims that sex work is a result of capitalist exploitation clearly has never been to Cuba where sex workers are everywhere and are higher paid than doctors and lawyers.

I think the mitake you are making is assuming that the economy is run by something else than sex.

Sex is at the basis of pretty much everything we do, normally there's a competition between sex and survival to balance things out, but we have essentially done such a good job at survival that sex is the only thing that really matters currently.

So to say that capitalism is causing problems in our dating life is backwards. Capitalism is downstream from our dating life. It can amplify the issues but fundamentally capitalism is just a reflection of our dating life.

I think the OP is obviously on to some problems with today's hypermodernity. But laying it at the feet of capitalism seems to miss the mark. Capitalism itself doesn't seem like much of an 'ism' or constructed ideology. It seems emergent, and the type of consumerism and capitalism we have seems symptomatic of deeper underlying problems.

I cannot fully articulate the proper diagnosis; but it seems to have to do with levels of technology that are beyond our human moral capacities to interact with healthily. We also live at an inhuman(e) scale, politically and in terms of interconnectivity. Of course, technology is behind this as well. And this scale we live at informs the types of social structures and belief/value systems that are feasible.

In many ways, we have too much individual freedom. We are too atomicized without proper social constraint on our behavior. However, at these scales, the alternatives to such freedoms tend to be state or theological totalitarianist, which are far different and more baleful than the types of constraints that small communities can exert on one another in much more nuanced and healthy ways. It's saddening and maddening, but maybe there are no good solutions at the type of scale humans live at now; and no clear path, short of cataclysm, to moving things to a more human scale. And even cataclysm is not a real solution, only a reset creating at best a tragic cycle of history.
