Physical intimacy is a big part of relationships and bonding. Without that no relationship can work long term. If 80-90% of the time yur partner is somewhere else and you physically cannot be close in any way, then it is inevitable that either you break-up anyway or that one of you cheats.

The only way i could see it working is if the relationship has already been built on a solid foundation of trust und mutual life goals, has had enough time to grow (2-3 years of normal dating) and the ldr is gonna be constraint to a defined time-period of a maximum of 6 months.

EDIT: I dont mean you have to spend 80-90% of your time with your partner, i mean if 80-90% of the time you literally cannot see your partner in person. I don't mean you have to hang out every day or be close 24/7
