And here in my town they have brought some Ukrainian women refugees and gave them a free house and an income.

Without surprise, these woman are from rich Ukrainian families

[–]Man_of_culture_112 73 points74 points75 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Not surprised

[–]ChxsenK 38 points39 points40 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It's actually a double standard in many ways. Middle east people have been in wars for years and noone ever wanted to help them. They rather called it a refugee crisis to throw the ball somewhere else.

[–]ChxsenK 91 points92 points93 points 4 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

Not only that, women fleeing from Ukraine are creating tinder profiles like crazy. Like... they already abandoned their husbands.

[–]kmikek 36 points37 points38 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Russian cam girls are panicking because they can't seem to complete wire transfers from their customers to their bank accounts. looks like they're going to need to find a different line of work.

[–]BoreDominated 11 points12 points13 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

The movie Birthday Girl taught me that Russian mail order brides are worth it, as long as you don't mind being scammed and wanted by the police.

[–]kmikek 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

well if you're already wanted by the police then what's the difference?

[–]BoreDominated 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Because in the movie the protagonist ends up wanted by the police for robbery, which carries a pretty stiff sentence.

[–]MunkSWE94 10 points11 points12 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

How do you know they were married in the first place?

[–]kmikek 11 points12 points13 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

if they weren't single before the gun fight, then they might be single after. it's possible.

[–]plug_play -2 points-1 points0 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Because they had husbands

[–]MunkSWE94 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

But how would you know that?

[–]plug_play -2 points-1 points0 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The husbands I imagine

[–]Man_of_culture_112 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

a lot of them were single though

[–]kaicyr21 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Is this true?

[–]Opposite-Power-3492 12 points13 points14 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I've seen Ukrainian women posting on Instagram "I'm so glad our country is sexist, so I can leave and not fight"

They have a responsibility to their community. They need to man up and fight.

[–]ISmellLikeBlackTea 94 points95 points96 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Its a responsibility that everyone has. If men are forced, and women are not, it’s not a responsibility then. Its being sent of to die so that life can go on as per usual for women.

[+]TheImpossibleVacuum -7 points-6 points-5 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's fight and you might live or don't and certainly end up tortured and executed. Your choice when it comes to your neighborhood, but you might be so privileged that this is not a real threat for your own community.

[–]mouldysandals 48 points49 points50 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

women can shoot guns too

[+]Man_of_culture_112 -7 points-6 points-5 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Guns???????????????

What are guns gonna do against tanks and jets.

Women can use tanks and fly fighter planes you mean. There is no reason for conscription to be only men.

[–]xplodngKeys 6 points7 points8 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I have no idea what your military knowledge is, but a recoilless rifle is a pretty bad day for a tank iirc.....

Besides, it's way easier to train someone to shoot a rifle than to fly a jet or drive a tank and that's where conscripts go.

[–]TheImpossibleVacuum -3 points-2 points-1 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Of course they can. No reason they can't.

They can also fly jets and helos.

[–]xplodngKeys 65 points66 points67 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Why? What responsibility? To what end does the nation state help the common man, when has it ever?

[+]Man_of_culture_112 -16 points-15 points-14 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It can help, if the common man is not lazy and is politically active.

[–]xplodngKeys 7 points8 points9 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Since 1799, the common man has been more concerned about putting food on the table than worrying about what elite is going to fuck them over this time.

Political activeness isn't a measure of individual industry, it's a measure of personal luxury.

[–]Sintar07 27 points28 points29 points 4 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

Sure, as long as women are maintaining their traditional responsibilities too. But they decided all their responsibilities were below them as human beings and they just deserved the benefits of civilization for free.

[+]Man_of_culture_112 -6 points-5 points-4 points 4 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

"Traditional responsibilities"

Homie ,cooking and cleaning are hard to do, they are practically not responsibilities. Let them pull their weight, traditionalism needs to die

[–]MBV-09-C 7 points8 points9 points 4 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

Homie, as a single man, I've been doing both with no problem. Cooking wasn't even a requirement for me, as I can easily live off of microwaveable foods, but I decided to actually learn how to cook food properly for my parents and sister, and on rare occasions my coworkers, from scratch, and it truly is not that hard, especially if you have easy access to recipes.

[–]TheImpossibleVacuum -4 points-3 points-2 points 4 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

Okay, now cook, clean, rear children, and have a 9-5 job.

[–]MBV-09-C 6 points7 points8 points 4 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

I do all of that except rear children already, and my job is 5-5 on a swing shift. Lmao, You're not going to win that battle, mate.

[–]TheImpossibleVacuum -2 points-1 points0 points 4 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, you don't have any kids, so you can't talk, lmao.

[–]MBV-09-C 7 points8 points9 points 4 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Yes, because children are entirely optional in life? Starvation and disease can kill you, so you need to cook and clean, and you need a job to pay for the food you eat and the home you live in. You literally do not need children, lol.

[–]TheImpossibleVacuum -2 points-1 points0 points 4 years ago* (5 children) | Copy Link

You don't need the internet either. Throw away your computers and devices and live a nomadic lifestyle.

And it isn't a choice for some. Rape is a thing that exists.

[–]xplodngKeys 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The Army fights on its stomach.....

[–]Man_of_culture_112 36 points37 points38 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

We should send ur ass to Ukraine

[–]TheImpossibleVacuum 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Only if you get to be my battle buddy <3

[–]KarateBrot 13 points14 points15 points 4 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

But it's not equality, that's the point. Feminists like to push equality as long as it benefits them but as soon as it's time for some inconveniences and responsibilities as part of equality they suddenly make cricket sounds...

[–]ChxsenK 7 points8 points9 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Of course it's not. One just has to notice how they were so fast to push for gender quotas at work but only for convenient comfortable jobs, leaving the mines, construction, etc. out of the ecuation.

[–]TheImpossibleVacuum -3 points-2 points-1 points 4 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

They should man up, too. I never said they shouldn't, lol. You just assumed.

[–]Temporary_Spend_3111 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Too each their own but i disagree with you on the manner of drafting

[–]TheImpossibleVacuum -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm no fan of the draft either, but sometimes it matters when your country is being invaded by a dominant force. Most of this is just technical bullshit anyways. The reason why no one wants to teach Russia (or China or whoever) a lesson is that we don't see the worth in it and everyone has nukes.

[–]KarateBrot 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

I didn't assume that because I don't think women need to man up. Women don't belong to the battlefield. As long as feminists stop being hypocrites and embrace that men and women are different, I think most men would not have a problem with protecting women in a war.

[–]TheImpossibleVacuum 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Who says men and women are the same?

[–]KarateBrot 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Third wave feminists

[–]TheImpossibleVacuum -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I don't know any that think so. Do you?

[–]KarateBrot 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

You have been living under a rock it seems

[–]TheImpossibleVacuum 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You have been imagining up fake people and situations it seems. Third wave feminism does not claim that men and women are the same.

[–]PleasantAdvertising 8 points9 points10 points 4 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

Do they also get rewarded lordship and get a piece of land afterwards?

[–]Man_of_culture_112 -2 points-1 points0 points 4 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

people might call that male privilege and say you are discriminating against women because they are weak.

[–]xplodngKeys 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

I'm pretty sure fair compensation for work done isn't male privilege.... Besides, 25 years of service to Rome in the Legion should probably come with some kind of pension.

[–]TheImpossibleVacuum 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

That pension would only work if the younger generations pay more taxes. It's not sustainable unless the pensioners also pay more in their old age instead of hoarding wealth.

[–]xplodngKeys 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Agreed. Or your empire is continually expanding through conquest.

[–]TheImpossibleVacuum 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

The obvious solution is for the older generation to take responsibility, but that won't happen unless they're forced to.

[–]xplodngKeys 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I don't know, asset holders can and should be able to do what they see fit with their assets. I personally don't agree with assetholder rent seeking in any market but it is not my place to control others.

[–]TheImpossibleVacuum 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

The entire social contract of pensions is predicated that the older generation will pay it forward to the next younger generation to keep the cycle sustainable. The problem is that older people get greedy and entitled.

[–]xplodngKeys 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I don't know, asset holders can and should be able to do what they see fit with their assets. I personally don't agree with assetholder rent seeking in any market but it is not my place to control others.

[–]PleasantAdvertising 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

OK then their women should go back to Ukraine and pick up a rifle. You can't have it both ways.

[–]TheImpossibleVacuum 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's one of the reasons how Rome fell, so not these days.

[–]Cerricola 18 points19 points20 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

A responsibility with the heritage of the landlords and politicians of Ukraine you mean?

[–]TheImpossibleVacuum -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

A responsibility to one's own commuinty. Did I misspeak? Or are you just acting in bad faith by bringing up a moot point?

[–]KlorgBaneTD 10 points11 points12 points 4 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

They're not being forced to stay and fight for their community, they're being forced to stay and fight for their government.

[–]TheImpossibleVacuum -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

What would happen if no one in Ukraine fought? Just let Russians expand and genocide as they please? You clearly haven't thought this through 😂

[–]KlorgBaneTD 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

You can make believe random what-ifs all you want, but if someone doesn't want to throw their life away in a deadly conflict and you force them to, you're a terrible person.

[–]TheImpossibleVacuum -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

You can make believe random what-ifs all you want

That's litearlly the process of thinking to make a decision. Especially if it's an important decesion, you're supposed to think about what might happen depending on what choice you make.

[–]KlorgBaneTD 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

So you can just make life or death decisions for other people? That doesn't seem even a little bit immoral to you?

[–]TheImpossibleVacuum -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

Don't doctors make life or death decisions for other people?

[–]KlorgBaneTD 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

No they literally don't.

Even if they did it wouldn't be telling people to be separated from their family so that they can either kill or be killed.

[–]TheImpossibleVacuum -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Yes they do. They decide who they want to operate on.

Besides, you still don't realize that not fighting means certain death, do you?

[–]regularcomments 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Funny...."man up" just to be slaughtered or slaughter someone else. What pathetic way of thinking is that?

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

So do all the other people who are over 18 and have 2 arms and 2 legs.

HEY women have those they need to woman up and fight they want equal rights now they got em.

[–]TheImpossibleVacuum 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

They should.

The list of people I'd protect with my life is very small and everyone on it shares my last name.

[–]skellious 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I'd protect a lot of people including strangers, but not because of being "a man". it's just the right thing for anyone to do. it should absolutely not be forced on you though.

[–]harleypig 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

In the parable of the Good Samaritan, nobody thought to ask the traveler if he wanted to be saved.

And we wonder why people can't leave each other the fuck alone.

This post annoys me, you make it sound like a bad thing that men are less willing to throw their lives away. Feminism wants men to throw their lives away (for women ofc), why is feminism behind that? Just attribute it to men having a sense of intrinsic worth.

Let the "men of courage" die in the past.

[–]Korvar 25 points26 points27 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yeah, this is a throwback to "Hard men and soft women". Why aren't women equally expected to throw their lives away, and not "Gary Cooper" (who was an actor last time I checked).

[–]Man_of_culture_112 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

My point. Nobody should have to throw their lives away but if it does come to that (very unlikely), there is no reason to discriminate against men.

[–]Rectall_Brown 14 points15 points16 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

New York post is trash. So we’re damned if we do and damned if we don’t. What a bullshit clickbait article.

[–]Alx1775 11 points12 points13 points 4 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Part of the reason this world is becoming so awful is that virtue has been rebranded toxic masculinity and has been quashed in an entire generation of boys growing up. Now our society wonders where the brave men are.

[–]Tayaradga 7 points8 points9 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Brave men are everywhere, we just dont want to fight for a place that castrates us.

[–]krittganp 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's right. We are equal with women, stop expecting "chivalry".

[–]Alx1775 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

If I show bravery, that does not make me a death object. My bravery is about my spirit, my relationship with my God , family, country, and fellow men. If I can (hopefully) act selflessly when there is danger, it is because the people I help are also made in the image of God.

I can’t demand bravery from others; but - Dear God, I can’t sit by and let it be condemned!

[–]Man_of_culture_112 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Nobody is condemning bravery. Not in men or women, just don't force or expect it.

[–]Alx1775 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

“Stop glorifying male death” in response to my specific comment sure sounded like it.

If you take a job that requires you to risk your life to save people... you kinda need to do it when the time comes. Man or woman.

I am not talking about the police, men in general.

Yeah you're probably right, if I had decided to join the pointy end of the spear then I'd be commissioned right off the bat... Possibly fastracked to captain depending on the branch & job (in Canada).

Although, if I was to enter the service at all it would be in the Navy. I can only stand so much camping and hanging around what's essentially a big parking lot seems boring.

I'd want someone trained to do the right thing to do the right thing. I don't want to watch as fools rush in only to throw themselves into the grinder.

There's a reason enlisted make the decisions they make and when they get to make those decisions.

Dude, you're trying to pick internet fights and it's not working.

Also, if I missed your point then you entirely missed mine.

Actually if I was one of those parents in Texas at that school I probably would have started a physical fight with the police.... That's way more my style than John Rambo.

Or well, it would start verbally and then the police would police and I wouldn't give a fuck and then escalate right into a jail cell.

[–]xplodngKeys -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Yeah. Cool. And the same as one guy who got tazed and then died of a heart attack the next day.

What's your point?

You tried to call me Rambo but here you are advocating storming the building and literally being Rambo.

Side note, I could probably inflict a little more damage than those mother's. Maybe I'd be able to take a nose or two. Maybe I'd get tazed first, so I can take a nose or two during booking with my forehead. Sitting in jail isn't fun, so you might as well make it worthwhile.

[–]TheSuperSax 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

In an ideal world most of us should be able and willing do save ourselves. But there will always be those who are too young, indigent or infirm to do it and society has always provided for people to save them. It’s sad that many of those who historically have — particularly firefighters and EMS, because cops are a different story — no longer are valued for rendering that service even in our speech and thoughts.

[+]ForAllTheMarbles3 -13 points-12 points-11 points 4 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

So saving dying children was the right thing to do in the past, but now isn't. Are children less important now? I don't understand what you're trying to say.

[–]xplodngKeys 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

Right, good, honorable, noble, virtuous.....

None of those words imply absolute self sacrafice and many of the words find societal value stemming from concepts like chivalry.

Don't pretend that something like self preservation is new or a current symptom of a societal ill.

Trying to enforce these ideals or putting a value statement on these ideals does nothing but create division in society.... The same kind of division that's created when you have two types of water fountains.

[–][deleted] 4 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

[permanently deleted]

[–]xplodngKeys -2 points-1 points0 points 4 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

There's nothing cowardly about self preservation and preserving oneself isn't inherently putting yourself ahead of everyone. The fact is, you have to live with yourself, you're #1 responsibility is to your own person... If you can't be responsible for yourself then you can never really be in a position to help others.

There's nothing Nobel or virtuous or courageous about running out onto an ice flow by yourself to save someone trapped in the river. That's how you turn 1 victim into 2. These words get thrown around in such instances, but they shouldn't be. There's no nobility in thoughtless acts. There's no courage in instinct or expectation. There's no virtue without a moral quandary.

All of those qualities you listed can be expressed in ways and circumstances where there is no risk of maiming or injury.

I think the word you're looking for is "selfless"

I'm not sure if you're aware, but your stance on the matter is highly, highly toxic.

[–][deleted] 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

[permanently deleted]

[–]xplodngKeys 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

A lot of this would make a tonne of sense to me if you're a Marine.

There's nothing cowardly in taking the time to assess a situation you have no responsibility for and determining that the personal risk is too high.

Your child will be thankful you saved them from the school shooting, but they'll never fully appreciate what it means to have had your shoulder blown off in the process. They'll never fully understand how life altering that is. They'll never fully understand that maybe you can no longer do your day job.

Your child will never fully understand why you decided to run into a school when the police were there, and they'll never get the chance to ask because maybe you took a shot where you're a little too squishy. Maybe you took a shot and now you're a paraplegic and your kid was hiding safely in the broom closet.... Except you're in Texas, so now you're homeless.

Failing to look at the big picture isn't a virtue. Looking at the big picture and determining maybe some actions are better taken then others is not a mark of cowardice.

Cowardice is what we call someone who has a responsibly to act and fails to act all the while having others rely and depend on that action... Which isn't taking place. Bravery on the other hand, is action, even when expected, that overcomes ones sense of paralysis.

The men stepping off the boat in Normandy weren't brave yet, and they weren't cowards. They had to get off the fucking boat. Bravery kicks in when they're huddled up behind the tank traps 30s later scared shitless from the drama unfolding around them.

No feminism doesn't want men to throw their lives away for women

[–]Man_of_culture_112 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (23 children) | Copy Link

I am not saying it literally but feminism promotes and defends policies and attitudes that benefit women AT THE EXPENSE OF MEN, that is still taking something away from men (limiting their quality of life).

[–]Tooma8 -3 points-2 points-1 points 4 years ago (22 children) | Copy Link

The idea of feminism is gender equality, what policies are you talking about?

[–]Fearless-File-3625 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (21 children) | Copy Link

If you genuinely want to learn, you can read this, it is not exhaustive (even a 1000 page won't be exhaustive) but it is good starting point.

You have "feminist" in your bio, so you are probably indoctrinated beyond help.

[–]Tooma8 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (19 children) | Copy Link

Look I'm not denying that there are harmful extremists on both sides. These extremists are usually very vocal and they give the cause they are fighting for a bad name. Me along with other REAL feminists just want gender equality.

[–]krittganp 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Maybe that's the case. How do you distinguish between the "REAL" feminist and the misandrist feminist?

Because many self acclaimed feminists objectify males, shame men by their penis size, number of sexual partners (incels) or expect males to perform chivalry, or expect males to fight in wars.

I hope one day, sooner the better, we achieve gender equality together. But sadly, from what I've seen, we are going into to the war of the genders.

[–]Tooma8 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I hope for that too. Unfortunately harmful extremist who only hurt their cause exist in pretty much every movement - would that be feminism, BLM, LGBT rights or pretty much any other.

[–]Fearless-File-3625 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (16 children) | Copy Link

What have you or any other REAL feminist ever done for men? list me few things.

Do believe also that Eliot Rodgers was an extremist and other REAL incels are good people that don't want to hurt women?

[–]Tooma8 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago* (15 children) | Copy Link

Look... fighting for gender equality is literally the definition of feminism. Yes feminist talk more about women's problems because women have largely been the oppressed gender throughout history and still are in many parts of the world, however that doesn't mean that men's rights aren't important.

As I already said: harmful extremes extremes exist on both sides, but that doesn't mean everyone campaigning for women rights thinks that men are worthless.

And talking about incels, the definition of the word "incel" is just someone who can't find a romantic partner, that's it. The definition doesn't say that incels want to hurt women, it's just that there are a lot of very vocal self proclaimed incels that do. I think a lot of self proclaimed "antifeminists" just have a negative stigma towards the term "feminism ".

[–]Fearless-File-3625 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (14 children) | Copy Link

have largely been the oppressed gender throughout history and still are in many parts of the world

Cope. That's not true. And we are in 2022, men have a LOT more problems than women, why haven't REAL feminists doing anything?

however that doesn't mean that men's rights aren't important.

If they were how has feminists, by your own admission, never done anything for men's rights?

[–]Tooma8 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

Really??? I was gonna argue with you, but now I don't even see a point in it... Like have ever been to the history lesson? Do you have any idea what's happening with women and girls in Islamic countries?

[–]Terrible_Departure90 123 points124 points125 points 4 years ago (21 children) | Copy Link

Men are no longer willing to die for people that don’t respect or value them.

[–]Man_of_culture_112 57 points58 points59 points 4 years ago (16 children) | Copy Link

men should not have to die in the 1st place

[–]itspinkynukka 35 points36 points37 points 4 years ago (15 children) | Copy Link

I...get what you're trying to say, but jobs that are life risking are going to be taken by mostly men.

[–]singularitous 33 points34 points35 points 4 years ago (14 children) | Copy Link

Ultimately modern men are learning that those risks no longer carry rewards, and that living to see tomorrow is more important than being remembered as a hero. You could say that this is a real example of toxic masculinity, where men would historically choose that risk at peril to themselves. Society as a whole suffers from a lack of strong, brave men but also chooses to vilify those traits...

[–]xplodngKeys 7 points8 points9 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Dude..... That's a naive AF assessment of our forefathers. My grandpa went into forestry because that's what paid at the time and put food on the table and kept the roof from leaking. I'm pretty sure neither him, nor his buddies, thought it was heroic to sidestep log fall and to keep your body outside of the equipment.

I'm pretty sure my Gramps didn't think it was heroic that his arm went through a plainer in order to make sure my grandma didn't need to work in the 50s.

[–]singularitous 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Heroic isn't the right term. Acceptable risk compared to the benefit.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

What do you mean they don’t carry rewards? I can’t speak specifically to the USA but in Canada cops get paid almost as much as a doctor if not more

[–]singularitous 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Canada may be different but in the US basically everybody hates cops. Police work has long been seen as the gateway to the middle class for immigrants, they for sure get paid nothing comparable to a doctor.

But almost everybody hates them, and some of them deserve it.

[–]itspinkynukka 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

I was talking about jobs that are needed and are life risking. Men are almost certainly going to be the ones in those jobs.

[–]singularitous -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

And fewer and fewer men are taking them, and then you see them not living up to society's expectation by not rushing into a burning building or an active shooter situation. You get more of the behavior you incentivize and less of the behavior you punish, it's not rocket science.

[–]itspinkynukka 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I mean is there for example an actual demand of police officers or firefighters not being filled right now? I doubt they'd have problem filling the jobs.

[–]singularitous 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

There are plenty of examples of people taking the jobs and then not doing them, so I'm not sure what you're saying here. Literally the whole texas shooting fiasco is a shining example of cops not doing their jobs.

[–]itspinkynukka 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Yes but this is going away from the point.

The jobs are not I'm jeopardy at all. Plenty of people will apply to dangerous jobs provided money and benefits are given.

[–]singularitous -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Ok, well you're arguing against a point I didn't make by excluding that context, so whatever.

[–]Man_of_culture_112 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

He was talking about cops and I was talking about men as a whole and society does not suffer if men are more easily manipulated into being bullet bags, society collapses when many men die and lose their workforce.

Men need to stop justifying their dehumanization as if it is a virtue, it is weak posturing (asking for validation from society instead of just valuing yourself) and it is backwards.

[–]xplodngKeys 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, and then you get political leaders saying women are most affected by war. It's rotten from the top.

[–]singularitous 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[+]TheImpossibleVacuum -35 points-34 points-33 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

[–]xplodngKeys 37 points38 points39 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Sometimes the fight has a very natural boundary and sometimes that boundary is called the preservation of oneself.

[–]AttachableSheep -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yeah. It sucks that we've been so brainwashed that saving children isn't considered to be the best course of action. But very few people would risk their lives today for the sake of others. Kind of makes you think about how important praise is for this kind of thing.

That is if we agree with the article, which I'm not sure I do yet. Seems a bit disrespectful to use those events to promote ideas like that, but then again I'm too dumb to know if it's right or wrong.

[–]xplodngKeys 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Honestly speaking, children aren't as valuable to society as teens and adults are. Historically, it's only recently that people have started to give a shit about humans under 5 years old. A lot of this has to do with children actually living past 5yrs with regularity now.... Except for in Texas maybe.

If the police don't want to do their job that's their business. If the police want to physically and forcefully prevent individuals (parents) from rescuing their children from a situation that they're standing by on then that's something else entirely.

Making tobacco products have plain packaging "because of the children" does fuck all and shouldn't be something we consider as a society.

[–]TurbulentFlow7145 56 points57 points58 points 4 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

Okay, let’s all agree on some things here, by being a cop you are signing up to risk your life for the good of others, and men have no obligation to protect anyone just because “that’s what good men do”.

Also, it’s very revealing, and disturbing, how after several months there is still complete radio silence about the extremely consequential discrimination of men in Ukraine are facing.

[–]Tayaradga 6 points7 points8 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

THANK YOU!!! Men should not be expected to risk their lives, but police officers definitely should be. That is what they signed up for when they chose that job, to be on risky situations where they are protecting the civilians.

[–]ATWaltz 16 points17 points18 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

People should be able to be who they want to be, whatever is natural for them, assuming that doesn't include malevolence.

If some women want to step up and show masculine traits then more power to them, if they can perform and have the desire to participate in male dominated activities then they should be able to.

We should have the same rights by law.

I don't speak for women. They can step where ever they want but we all need to work together to make sure that all of our steps go in the direction needed most which is gender rights for all. Where were all the women of courage among the first responders at Uvalde?

[–]Lumpy_Constellation 14 points15 points16 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Well the first responders did nothing while civilian men and women tried to save their children and beg for help. I'm not sure the genders of the SWAT team members that did end up going in were. But as far as first in line to protect children, that would be the teachers that were killed (https://www.ksat.com/news/local/2022/06/01/shes-a-hero-to-everyone-honoring-eva-mireles-slain-teacher-at-robb-elementary/) So it honestly seems like an issue with police culture more than overall gender politics.

We ignore the crisis that sees men commit suicide at ever increasing rates or succumb to drug abuse and porn addiction while savvy young women graduate from college in disproportionate numbers.

Everything here screams right wing nut job. Women graduate more because there is a clear bias towards them not because men are watching porn (there is no such thing as porn addiction).

Along the way, we emasculate the institutions that were necessarily masculine for our protection, notably the military.

When she say's "our" she means women, plus the US has not and does not need to fight a defensive war. She is a clown and your typical entitled trad con woman.

I hate everything about this article

That's what feminism wanted boys to be and brainwashed single mothers to do so. Men are biologically different from women. If you raise boys like girls, they will end up being broken. Being emotional is a politically correct statement. It puts boys at disadvantage.

[–]Man_of_culture_112 48 points49 points50 points 4 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

More of this tradcon talk?

IT IS NOT NATURAL FOR MEN TO BE BULLET BAGS TO DIE!!!!!!!!!!

Boys are at a disadvantage because they are treated worse in school, they are graded worse (which kills their self esteem), they are bullied more, they are gaslighted more and helped less, they have less health programs, more easily socially isolated and they commit suicide more because no one helps them.

Who gives AF about single mothers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It is natural for police officers to go into a dangerous situation in order to save children. That's part of their job that they signed up for. This applies to female agents just as well, of course.

[–]Man_of_culture_112 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

They are affected by fatherlessness but it takes a "village" to raise a child, I can't possibly ignore external factors like school and work.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

In order to have a village, you need individual, nuclear families first. Does that not entail having a father?

[–]Man_of_culture_112 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

You can have father and mother figures. Children spend 8 hours in school a day, their interactions with their teachers could matter more

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And that’s an issue. You act like it’s a good thing that children view their teachers as parents rather than their actual biological parents.

Did feminism really demand men reject traditional masculinity?

Last I checked, the feminist movement still at least tacitly (and often explicitly) demands men stand up for women, protect women, place women's interests above their own, and comply with traditional gender roles should they wish to be selected as sexual/romantic mates. We all know about the white feather campaign. Feminism is diet traditionalism, not anti-traditionalism.

Meanwhile, men throwing away their lives for the sake of women/society is arguably a kind of toxic masculinity (i.e. a traditional gender expectation foisted upon men that encourages self-destructive or other-destructive behaviors) - a kind of toxic masculinity which most women (and many men) seem to support because they see it as pro-social (even if it entails male self-sacrifice).

Tradcons and Feminists want the same protector-provider masculinity as always, just perhaps with a few minor modifications. Fuck that. Fuck traditionalism.

[–]Sitheral 12 points13 points14 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

In reality, they want men to be whatever they need them to be at any given moment, simple as that. Most of them anyway.

When I was in college I went with some people into NYC to see a friend perform at the NewYorican Poets Cafe. In the car were three women, a gay guy and me, a straight man. On the way there the women were running their mouths off about feminism. But, that all stopped when one of the tires blew and the women looked at the gay guy and me to change it. None of the women offered to help. For the rest of the night I kept bringing up that their feminism was conditional and that they were fine with gendered division of labor as long as they benefited. They didn’t like what I was saying but they didn’t deny it.

[–]Sintar07 6 points7 points8 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yes, feminists are dirty liars who don't actually believe in equality or pulling their weight. They are 100% opposed to traditionalism because traditionalism demands they pull their weight in other ways.

[–]WTRKS1253 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I dont know what type of feminism your referring to. For the past 100-200 years feminism has been trying to break the traditional roles of men and women. Why do you think that feminism still supports the traditional protecter-provider role of a man, when they encourage women to adapt to the modern roles ("independent, don't need no man") of a woman?

In order for a man to adapt to his traditional role, the woman has to also adapt to her traditional role. There can never be just one. Feminism isn't "diet traditionalism". Feminism has never been traditional to begin with.

[–]YetAnotherCommenter 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Why do you think that feminism still supports the traditional protecter-provider role of a man, when they encourage women to adapt to the modern roles ("independent, don't need no man") of a woman?

Look at what they do, not necessarily what they say.

In the USA, they oppose default-shared-custody (thus maintaining the women-as-primarily-mothers/men-as-primarily-breadwinners traditional role).

On one hand they say "men should be able to talk about their feelings." Watch what they do when men get together to talk about their feelings - for example in places like here and at men's issues meetings that feminists picket. Watch how they shame and mock men who don't toe the line.

They talk about women whom are strong, independent and "don't need no man." They then insist on government programs and interventions that depend on being funded by (mostly-male-generated) tax revenue. They lobby male politicians basically for more chivalry and privileges.

Look at feminist anti-DV campaigns. They frequently tell men to "man up" and protect women from violence (i.e. to comply with their traditional gender role).

And of course we all know about the White Feather campaign...

Long story short: They say they're against traditional roles for both sexes. The reality is they want to maintain... and indeed they tacitly rely upon... huge swathes of traditional masculinity, as well as huge swathes of traditional femininity (the way feminists do this is discussed at length by many other men's issues commentators).

I'm not sure what version/s of feminism you have experienced.

[–]Interesting-Eye-5464[S] 6 points7 points8 points 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

My experience of feminism has been of getting attacked regardless of what ever position I take, including being supportive.

[–]YetAnotherCommenter 8 points9 points10 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I'm not surprised about that. I feel similarly. When I go on about men rejecting traditional roles and refusing to be women's protectors/providers, feminists scream just as much as they would at a classic tradcon.

Feminism doesn't really want non-traditional men. Nor does it want fully-traditional men. What it wants is a man with a strict gender role that serves exclusively the woman's interests and preferences.

We vilify action men, brand chivalry and valor “toxic masculinity,” stamp on the manly virtues that made civilization possible.

We pathologize manly virtues and bow to the tyranny of identity politics that seeks power by overthrowing a make-believe patriarchy.

How many women officers etc. were there to respond at Uvalde? Just out of curiosity… let’s go down that rabbit hole… This is actually a pretty good article IMO. She seems to be calling out the war on “Toxic Masculinity” and the impact of that on men and boys she even touched on the college graduation levels of women outpacing men and men dying of suicide etc. She’s Basically saying feminism and society has made their stance clear on what they want from men, feminist men, celebrating pregnant men, and demonizing anything masculine. So don’t get mad when men don’t come running to save the day.

[–]RatDontPanic 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Ummmm I may be a bit late to this but isn't this article EXTOLLING male disposability? They're saying that it's our job as men to go run in and do these things. Why are they only talking about this as an obligation for men?

[–]krittganp 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Exactly.

[–]RatDontPanic 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Which is why I wouldn't be posting that story here. Those tradcons are bad for men and women alike.

[–]krittganp 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I just made a post about these issues, we shouldn't reinforce these shitty roles in our community.

[–]krittganp 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Women can be brave, join the army, the police. We should use the same standards for them and not expect men to do the shitty, dangerous jobs. Especially in the current political climate.

This article is talking about the latter, their issue is that some men don't want to do the dangerous, dirty jobs.

Some feminists, and traditional women have one thing in common: They want men and only men to fulfill the role of the protector.

We can see whats happening in Ukraine, males are banned from leaving the country, while women, children and pets can flee.

We see whats happening in "progressive" countries, they make laws where almost only male abusers count as abusers, only male rapists count as rapists.

They make laws that women get quotas in the parliament (this is againts democracy), and also make quotas for them in companies leadership.

But they almost never make laws, that require women to be protectors. Military conscription is almost always only for men, and if women have to do military service, it's not the same men must do.

This political climate has to change, this is not equality. It's the opposite, actually.

[–]gamerlololdude 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Why is this gendered?

Men are not responsible for being courageous as much as women.

Courage is a trait that people of any gender identity can have or not have.

We need people of courage, though that is relative to what courage means. Being a bystander and intervening is more like a morale obligation, but only if you know how to intervene in a helpful manner.

[–]have_me -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

What about during Columbine? When the cops waited 45mins in fear, was it because some feminists told them they were toxic? That kind of rhetoric hadn't even started back then.

[–]Sintar07 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I don't know what you mean by that statement. Feminists change up the words, but they've said "man behaviors are bad and oppress women" in one way or another as long as I've been alive.

[–]have_me -2 points-1 points0 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

[–]NoBrick444 -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I don't think there was any missing "courage" in Uvalde, plenty of people ran into danger.

It's just that everybody wants to monday morning quarterback a "fog of war" situation where you don't know how many shooters there are, where they are, what they're doing, you literally don't know anything, and tactical training dictates a slow and methodical clearing of a large structure that could take a couple of hours.

For all you know there could be multiple shooters waiting in ambush, the shooter might have went in thru the front, shot some people and ran out the back. There could be a bomb, you don't know anything.

All you can do is clear it room by room and evacuate the students.

"b-but masculine expectations! Why does it always have to be men?!?"

Well, who the fuck else is gonna do it?

Besides, there's brave teachers in there putting their own body in the way and protecting the students, there's nurses who spend 12-14 hours on their feet saving lives. So if most of the cops happen to be men, that's what their signed up for and everybody needs to shut their whore mouth and do their job.

I have a half baked hypothesis, tell me what you think. "imagine a boy and girl at school. they both have divorced parents, both are in custody of their mothers, and both are getting child support from their fathers. What if the mother of the boy is trying to raise him to be better than the man she divorced but the end results are unfortunately and unintentionally flawed. And the girl being raised by her mother is being warned against men like her father and to be suspicious and wary? And what if these to children are now incompatible with one another and would not date each other under any circumstances or if they did they wouldn't get along due to how they were raised."

[–]SweetPeaRiaing 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Maybe they just aren’t becoming cops because a cops job isn’t actually to help or protect people.

[–]pennywise1235 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Obviously, the last few weeks here in the US have been difficult. Even more so than the last few years, and that’s saying something. Without knowing the real who, what, etc. of the situation involving the LEO’s in this tragedy, it’s easy to judge the police as cowards and negligent. I too have said words to that effect.

Now, that all being said, the article makes a good point in that we’ve been told for decades about machismo and chivalry and all that stuff is caveman thinking and we need to flush it away from civilized society. Although there’s no concrete proof that that’s what happened in this case, it’s probably safe to assume it’s at least partially responsible for the lack of response to the situation.

Another factor in their lack of action is the misconception of the public image of LEO’s all being a John Mcclane hunting down the terrorists in Nakatomi tower kind of mentality. The vast majority of LEO’s at all levels will most likely never fire a weapon at a suspect, much less engage a hostile well armed individual in an elementary school with dead kids all around. Im not excusing them, I’m just saying that training only gets you so far.

[–]Tolga1991 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This article is some regressive bs. Conservatives like the author herself see men as expendable/disposable just like feminists do.

[–]MyNotNSFWAcct 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This appears to be an intentional misunderstanding of “toxic masculinity”. Engaging in “toxic” behaviors doesn’t go hand in hand with and isn’t necessary to do something heroic. Just more culture war BS.

[–]burnerpvt 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

It’s sad and disgusting that “toxic masculinity” is basically describes how a good man should be. We need some drive, some purpose and direction in our lives or we become weak and become the very evil we swore to destroy.

In the end, this is all just attention seeking behavior by crazy feminists so don’t give in to the nonsense.

[–]icemax666 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I’m a traditional man and I don’t care if people like it or not. In this situation, I would’ve rather been fired from the police force and gone in to take down the school shooter, rather than do nothing. I don’t act like a man because there’s a reward for being chivalrous - I was raised that way and the world doesn’t like it now, they can suck it. I think that failing to act will be something that haunts these officers for the rest of their lives, and if it doesn’t, they are scum.
