Why is Tik-tok so misandrist?

Don’t know, I stopped using it for exactly that reason. No matter what I was liking, the algorithm always eventually decided that I want to see misandrist crap. It was good for the occasional laugh but those usually end up on Instagram within a few weeks anyway.

just throwing some stuff at the wall here; let's see if it sticks:

hateful people love using online spaces as outlets because they face no real consequences for expressing ideas that are disliked. also, spending time around many different groups is an inoculation against hate, so people who spend a lot of time online are more likely to hold various -isms and -phobias.

combine this with stuff that everyone here already knows about, the empathy gap, the universality of feminist ideas, the belief that anyone who believes in misandry just doesn't care about women, (all three of these are the same thing, really) and people essentially have free rein to express anti-male sentiments without anyone recognizing them as bad.

women are more likely to express anti-male beliefs than men (obviously) so tik tok, having a large female userbase, will be more likely to express itself this way than a more male-dominated platform.

It never really shows me that stuff. I follow the dadvocate and her (Lauren) page is amazing. She has three main series: Womansplaining men to women and womansplaining women to men and she's mostly on-point. Third "series" is reacting to videos of toxic partners that think what they're doing is justified. There's a bunch of men's advocacy pages which I follow, and some more unrelated stuff, but yeah.

Misandrist sentiment is on the rise among young people (not necessarily women), and TikTok is the popular space for zoomers. I don't think it's much more complicated than that.

Tiktok will show you the videos that enrage you most to get you to spend the most time on it.

The best solution for your mental health is to delete Tiktok.

But if you want to filter out some type of content I heard you can long press or something and then say "I don't want to see this".

Want the scary answer? It isn't.

Tik Tok is the next evolution of Social Media selection bias. The algorithm doesn't care if you're happy or sad or angry about what you viewed, so long as you view it and provide attention for ad space.

So this phenomenon is something you're experiencing explicitly because the algorithms have divined that this is what will get your attention.

Don't believe me? Try signing up with completely different user stats and click only on things that would interest someone else. Dance, or hairstyles or something.

These videos will disappear FAST so long as you aren't watching them, especially if there's another market demographic you do fit.

It’s funny you mention that. I just closed the tiktok app because I came across a sound that was focused on disliking men. I’ll be fair and say it wasn’t self proclaimed feminists making these videos; but ordinary women in general

I know and totally understand. I commented on a woman who deleted a guys entire game out of jealousy and he’s a streamer. She deleted his income. I commented she’s horrible and it got taken down instantly. It’s very misandrist.

Pretty much every platform is full of it. Just TikTok seems to really amplify it.
HOWEVER, there are many amazing creators constantly calling it out, the weaponisation of victimhood, demonising and other tactics for what they are.

Culturally, we're going through a period where it's okay to be antagonistic towards some depending on their historical privilege. It's why, if people on twitter want to criticize women, they have to criticize white women, if they want to criticize black people, it must be black men, and if they want to criticize trans people, it has to be white trans people.

I think a lot of casual misandry, the stuff like "all men are trash," comes from individual frustrations with dating and interacting with men, but we live in a society that doesn't punish people for saying that. If you perceive yourself as having been slighted or otherwise accosted by enough men, it becomes a frustration that teems in your chest until you let out that cathartic phrase, which you know on one hand isn't true but my god does it feel so goddamn good to say. As men, we can't say the equivalent about women, even if it would make us feel a lot better about that bitch who spent that whole date at that super nice restaurant on her phone...

And if I'm going to be perfectly honest, I'm not sure I can blame some of them. It must suck to be a heterosexual woman, who talks to a man she's interested in for a couple of months until she feels ready, and they finally have sex and then the dude ghosts her. It must really hurt. And to utter the words "men are trash" must be of some consolation. Doesn't make it right, but it's a common phrase, particularly on the internet, and they have the privilege of being able to speak it, so c'est la vie.

Ultimately, we should all be kind to others. You don't know what somebody else is going through. It sucks that we're going through this cultural nonsense, but I also promise you that it's mostly exclusively on the internet that men are so hated.

Its a brain-rotting app for children with low attention spans. Its a breeding ground of idiocy, just like most social media (including reddit, though to a much lesser extent IMO). Where idiocy thrives, hate will as well. Because senseless hate is ultimately the same...idiotic.
