Before dating apps there was party telephone lines advertised on tv for like 3$ a minute. The tv ads showed hot single local girls just waiting to talk to you.

There were no hot single local girls, just a woman or two who could do a hot voice that got paid to chat with you.

Ashley Madison said there are married women right near you wanting to have affairs. Reality set in when we learned that there were no women looking to have affairs on the website, just the old model of paying someone to lead idiots on.

When are you guys going to learn? When are you going to give up on the idea that "men are more logical"?

Abundance has never left us. Literally more than every second person on earth has a vagina. Vagina is one of the most abundant things on earth.

I don't think it's the "illusion of abundance" so much as it's commodification and lack of pressure. People are now soulless widgets to be browsed and ordered and nobody is forcing them to make up their minds.

Adding to that, people don't actually need relationships anymore. They are more in the nice-to-have category of entertainment purchases.

The real-world costs of relationships have not gone down either and people are surrounded by the examples of their parents' failed and unsatisfying relationships. So they all keep shopping and find various excuses to not commit.

Abundance of choice just keeps people from making as many mistakes as prior generations.

I've also read that once people get together they still hang around on the apps just in case they see someone that catches their interests so they can fantasize about new mirages all the time.

Imagine you're lucky enough to get into a relationship but you're still not happy - that's what happens with a lot of people now. The illusion of endless options really messes with people's heads.

Dating apps do give you access to a lot of people, but it doesn't make the dating process any easier. It gets to you a first date, and everything after that is all you.

If you ghost or give up on a person at the slightest annoyance, that's on you. The app is not forcing you to do that.

As for the quality of people you get on apps, of course not everyone will be good for you. That's the whole point of the dating process, did you really expect not to do any work when trying to find something serious. You can't expect an app to automate the process of real dating, and connection.

Dating apps are just one piece of the whole puzzle, which is the larger-scale destruction of communities and depersonalization of human interactions. It’s not just dating either. I’ve had a hell of a time trying to make real friends as an adult in the 21st century, and most people seem to agree. There are still “real” people out there, but you have to find the right sort of events and venues to meet them.

Since when is it unreasonable to want to date someone you actually like? Just because someone ghosted you doesn't mean they have unrealistic expectations, they are just more into some other type of person.

It's mostly ugly women on apps, and a ton of scammers. Real women know they don't have to because they can just step outside and get swarmed with guys.

There is an urban/rural issue here as I have found relatively normal women in smaller towns on dating apps, whereas in major cities it's often literal prostitutes advertising themselves.

That's the thing. There's so many women working at stripclubs just waiting on the next guy to become their wallet. It's very very common and most attractive women feel entitled and deserving of being literally a piece of fuck meat with little personality. Just enough to keep the guy interested.
