Camera guy confirmed for idiot. I am a retired (female) police lieutenant and part of my job while a sergeant, was training new officers. Restraint techniques are the same whatever the sex of the person you are arresting. I once had one new guy who made the mistake of not dealing firmly with his first resistant female. I let them go at it a bit while she was laying on the ground screaming to attract attention of bystanders, and he was standing over her trying to nicely get her flailing arms. Suddenly she turned over, shot her foot upward, and kicked him full-force flat in the groin and he went down. I tased her, (all the while she was doing that drama like-she's-being-killed screaming lol) put the cuffs on, got her in the back of the car and waited till he quit vomiting. He never forgot the lesson. I'd have yelled at this officer to quit taking so long to do his job lol.

And in the eyes of the law, all people you are arrest are the same. Police have to approach all people they deal with equally. Once they start making value judgements on the people they deal with, it has the horrible potential to become "oh, this is a small white girl and she looks nice, so I should treat her differently than a big, rough-looking black guy."+ That can not happen, and departments and officers work hard to eliminate making personal value judgements on the people they deal with. Every person you arrest ideally is dealt with the same, so as not to discriminate against any one of them. Yes, this makes cops emotionless when you want to tell them your sob story, but it is what keeps them from treating some people differently than other people. If, as an officer, you treat absolutely EVERYONE the same, you will never find yourself discriminating against someone unintentionally.

+footnote: and yet, citizens often want us to do just that; treat little white girls differently than big black guys. So does this cameraman.

I have to say the officer was in the right on this one. Though I do have to strongly disagree with this little bit from the news article.

The chief had some criticism for the person who filmed the incident."What is very discouraging is we actually have citizens on scene who think the priority is to get their cellphone out and videotape this when, in fact, they should be coming to the assistance of the officer and helping us to police in our own community," De Caire said.

Unless you are an officer yourself, do not help. Filming the situation was likely the best course action though the commentary wasn't needed. Having the incident on film is the best way to keep all parties honest when it comes time for court.

Time to start the comment. Let's establish something first; I'm vehemently against police brutality and disgusted to the point of J. Jonah Jameson "I'll have someone's job for this!" rage when I see cops abusing their authority.

So far, this doesn't look like it. I don't know why the cops are arresting her. I don't know how she ended up on the ground. But the thing to do when confronted by a cop, unless you are guilty of something is to say this simple phrase "Officer, you have my cooperation, but not my consent.". This young lady seems to think that screaming and crying will get her out of everything. Probably because damselling has worked so well for her in her past. Now she has a problem she can't get out of. So she has a psychotic break.

OK. Finished the video. Yeah. You know how you know this cop was in the right? He took the time to give a reasonable explanation for what was seen on camera and he didn't bristle at A) being filmed and B) being challenged on his authority or his method.

That's a good cop. If he were American, I'd say I'm happy to have him on my payroll.

Seriously though, this whole "if I fight enough the cops will have to let me go" exposes a massive feeling of entitlement. Not just with women, but we see more of it because people are bothered more by the response to that entitlement. Every whiny Occupy riot has the same thing, from both sexes.

If you actually believe the arrest is illegitimate, convince a judge. If you resist, you make the arrest legitimate.
