There is a cool movie about what women did during WWII. It is called "A League of Their Own". It stars Tom Hanks and Madonna.

[–]M_Justice[S] 27 points28 points29 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yup. Enough said.

[–]jaheiner 22 points23 points24 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Don't forget, they also took time out of their busy schedules to publicly shame men who weren't overseas fighting whether they knew anything about his circumstances or not.

[–]Just4yourpost 5 points6 points7 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

LMAO

[–][deleted] 74 points75 points76 points 7 years ago (15 children) | Copy Link

Only in Russia, which had a squad of female snipers. But they did not engage in melee combat during WW II and were forbidden to go to the front line,

[–]M_Justice[S] 42 points43 points44 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I saw a Sun article discuss that and that’s totally fine. But the consuming audience isn’t signing up to be a an obscure female Russian sniper and it’s ironic that feminists are citing to Russia and embracing communism. True to totalitarian form

[–]formerlydeaddd 13 points14 points15 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

"we want equality! we want egalitarian matriarchy! we want sexual freedoms! we want equality of outcome!"

[–]BionicTransWomyn 16 points17 points18 points 7 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

That's r/badhistory. Women were not "forbidden to go to the front line" in the Red Army. Women were generally not in the infantry that's true, but they served as pilots, tankers, machine-gunners, AA gunners, etc.

Then of course you had the support personnel like nurses and those who worked in administration and logistics.

Given the nature of the Eastern Front, the concept of "Front Line" is a lot murkier. For example women participated in the defense of Leningrad and nurses operating during the Battle of Stalingrad were at considerable personal risk.

A significant number of women also fought as Partisans in the Nazis' rear, risking death and torture.

As for the snipers, it was more than a squad's worth. A bit under 2500 women served as snipers in the Red Army, of those, about 500 survived. No one should doubt the fact that women made an important contribution to the Soviet war effort, both on and off the battlefield.

Now of course there's the other side of the coin. Women composed only about 3% of the Red Army throughout the war. Men were still disproportionally drafted and used in dangerous roles and make up the majority of the USSR's death toll in the war. There's nothing in the Great Patriotic War that contradicts male disposability.

However pretending that female participation in the Red Army was only token and reserved for propaganda (a point which is frequently stated) is incorrect and does discredit to the fact we should be celebrating the women who actually got up and shared the men's risks. It's all about balanced and accurate history, and I personally think positive examples are a lot better to fight the plague of victimhood we so often see in the modern debate.

[–]loki-things 10 points11 points12 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah Leningrad was a siege. They started eating each other due to starvation. Women were not deployed to lift the siege it was just the poor souls who were stuck in the city clawing to survive.

[–]omegaphallic 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

That is very interesting, perhaps the game makers should have drawn more upon the historical role of women in WWII for their game like you just did and then they would have had less objections.

[–]B3C745D9 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

A Winter Palace/Petrograd mission would've been neat

[–]BionicTransWomyn -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I dont disagree with that. But I thought the women characters were mostly avatars to be used in MP? Do they have a significant role in the campaign?

[–]kaian-a-coel 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

They replaced a group of commando raiding a nazi factory in scandinavia with women, IIRC.

[–]Just4yourpost -5 points-4 points-3 points 7 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I wonder how many women soldiers during WWII were raped after being beaten and/or captured.

Should they add that function to the game, too?

[–]Macismyname 6 points7 points8 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Nanjing would like a word.

[–]Hadashi_blacksky 3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Well, men got raped in combat. Always have been.

[–]dogkindrepresent 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

All of them.

[–]omegaphallic 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's not unusually for male soldiers to also get raped in war.

[–][deleted] 95 points96 points97 points 7 years ago (19 children) | Copy Link

"but... but... there were women soldiers everywhere in ww2...." - feminists

yeah. what a crock of shit.

But, EA's gotta get their progressive jollies off.

the people have spoken. EA's going to be fighting this uphill battle for a while.

[–]Akesgeroth 23 points24 points25 points 7 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

For those who aren't into gaming, there's a saying going around lately:

"Get woke, go broke."

[–]TheAngryBird03 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

Can you explain this

[–]Milo91111922 points 7 years ago [recovered] (6 children) | Copy Link

When a company attempts to appeal to the "rich, untapped market" of PC culture and feminism while actively alienating their current audience. When they somehow don't get loads of money by appealing to an audience that typically plays less games, they go broke. Not to mention they often try to alienate their current audience of "gamers" which also leads to less sales.

An example can be seen in Battlefield 5. Where they said that gamers were uneducated and should not buy the game, guess what happened next.

[–]fengpi 20 points21 points22 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

So you mean antagonizing your core customer base and creating an unsellable product isn’t great business?? You don’t say!

Wow. Next thing you know, you’ll be telling me the overweight purple-hair/nose-ring set isn’t big on buying BMW yuppie roadsters, which is exactly why BMW should alter its product line to make little 2-cylinder engines which run on French fry oil.

[–]The_Best_01 4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Not just games, but movies and TV too.

[–]goldmedalflower 5 points6 points7 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

TLJ is doing very well in sales.

[–]InformalCriticism 3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

For a Star Wars movie, though? I think that was probably their last chance; I predict we'll see a lot less support in coming releases.

[–]kaian-a-coel 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Happened to Solo already. Word is, between the extensive reshoots, a general lack of interest, and TLJ's impact, it lost money.

[–]Foxman8472 6 points7 points8 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

You have a shooty game for boys and you try to market it to girls because it's inclusive but in the meantime you alienate your fanbase and don't get much sales by expanding into a market that really doesn't give much of a crap about your shooty games.

[–]bigbronze 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Or just make a shooty game that isn’t based on an actual period of time where facts can distort the product. Fortnite is the prime example of this. GTA also

[–]darkrae 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This. I think they could've avoided all of this if they didn't say this was set on WWII (or their interpretation of WWII)

[–]NoGardE 10 points11 points12 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

French Resistance, as well.

Basically, all the armies which were completely unprepared and fighting in their own territory. Because when war consists primarily of ground battles, that's the only time your women should be anywhere near the front. Rape and murder of pregnant women is bad, mkay.

[–]thom430 9 points10 points11 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Mostly non-combat roles though, despite what some of the Soviet propaganda will have you believe about snipers with certain kill counts.

[–]omegaphallic 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

To be fair there were some, just mostly in resistance movements and possibly as reserves and nurses.

[–]andejoh 116 points117 points118 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

"this audience gave over 500K down-votes to the trailer and vowed not to purchase the game"

They should believe men.

[–]ZeJerman 32 points33 points34 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That and the chief dev said not to buy the game... So i just obliged him haha

[–]M_Justice[S] 63 points64 points65 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I think there were plenty of women in that audience as well that downvoted, my GF included

[–]andejoh 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm sure there were. Part of that is a riff on that whole believe women thing when it comes to complaints of sexual assault. I thought about using they should trust men which would be a riff on that trust women when it came to decisions surrounding abortion (because the father shouldn't have any input naturally). There doesn't seem to be the same push to believe men when they make claims or to trust men to make decisions about their bodies (there are cases like having to get a doctors clearance before participating in sports).

[–]KorvisKhan 20 points21 points22 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Do I need consent to shoot the females in this game? I'm so confused. How does this work?

[+][deleted] -9 points-8 points-7 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

A consent joke? Really?

[–]mondoman202 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It's in the article if u read it

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, I read it, it was pathetic and hilarious

[–][deleted] 21 points22 points23 points 7 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Women did loads of important stuff in WW2 that meant that the war effort as a whole was successful. Off the top of my head they worked in factories, farms, as air wardens, as nurses, in bletchley park, in the battle of britain as Wrafs. Even some combat roles as resistance/spies in France. If EA wanted to show the importance of women's contribution then the obvious thing to do would be to represent these parts of the war in the game and if the player thought "these are crap I am not interested" then show him the effect of not producing enough/good enough munitions on the soldier on the front line for example. That way you stay true to history, enlighten the player, make the game more varied and show just how important women were to the war effort. Instead what they did was lie and try and rewrite history, its so stupid and baffling from a capitalist perspective and totally counter productive from a feminist perspective.

[–]Macismyname 3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Honestly, an indie game about life on the homefront with WW2 in the background? Could be a good atmosphere for . . .something? That's a really cool time/setting in history and something fun could be put there.

[–]Fishsushi 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Hanz, get tze tractor.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

yeah why not, chasing pigs as light relief from fighting nazis and if you don't catch enough the men on the front aren't as well fed and then they don't fight as well.

[–]MyOtherTagsGood 15 points16 points17 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Less a men's rights issue and more of a stupid way to use artistic licensing to paint a false version of history. Were there famous female soldiers in WW2? Yes, but so few I can only think of one off the top of my head. She was already given a nod in the game BORDERLANDS 2, with a sniper rifle named after her. Originally the PlayStation and Xbox versions had their own version of the gun referencing different legendary snipers from the war. The male known as, "The White Death", was the name on Xbox. An update changed both console versions to the females name, Lyudmilla, and now that I think about it, they probably did it because of feminist nonsense. But either way, just because a company wants to interpret history in a false way so fat gamer chicks can feel represented, I say who cares? They're just hurting their own sales because nobody is going to buy that shit.

[–]Hadashi_blacksky 6 points7 points8 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It's kinda erasure of the tenant that we must never forget what those men sacrificed - that's why people are mad.

[–]PerfectZeong 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I know my grandfather fought hard over how he would be represented in a loosely historic video game.

Were there female combatants on the Nazi side?

[–]fengpi 13 points14 points15 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Of course not. No Rosie the Riveter types either, everyone knows that the Nazis' notorious sexism was their most evil feature.

[–]SwordfshII 6 points7 points8 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Rose the Riveter quit after two weeks. She was worried it would damage her cello playing.

Married a dentist and popped out some kids, too. Sounds very 50s housewifey to me! It was war propaganda then, it’s war propaganda now. Except men are the enemy today.

[–]M_Justice[S] 6 points7 points8 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Nazi women were doing other evil like forced Eugenics.

[–]MalibuStayZ 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

There were female test pilots in the German air force, but I don't know of any female combatants. One of those became Germany's most famous manfacturer of sex toys after the war: Beate Uhse.

[–]haterator 7 points8 points9 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

the only females that did any fighting in ww2 were in russia.. and BFV exluded russians from the game.. they just did it for SJW brownie points.

[–]mondoman202 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

They actually did a disservice to the role women actually played in the war by just throwing them on the front line

[–]haterator 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yes.. this is why when I played BFV mp and I run into asian females it's incredibly off putting and they make ridiculous noises.. sure it's just a game but I do like to have some semblance of realism for a war that actually happened.

[–]TheStumblingWolf 3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's like the game had an identity crisis. On one hand it was trying to bring to light obscure WWII operations which is a cool thing, and then you have their replacing every man in these stories with women. I have nothing against games with women in them. Battlefront is essentially the same game set in Star Wars and I have no problem there.

This is the equivalent of a vegan replacing your meals with imitation soy meat and being angry at you for not wanting it. Had they created separate fictional stories with women in them I would've had a lot fewer issues with it.

It's like - be authentic, or be political. Don't try to be both.

[–]Ted8367 14 points15 points16 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Realism?

'Battlefield' Has Never Been Historically Accurate, That's Why It's Fun

Nothing says “realistic respect and honor” like rocket-jumping a boat over a building and bazooka-ing a jet in midair

I don't understand why guys are angry.

They should be overjoyed to be able to teabag bitches and impale them on their bayonets and beat them like their neglected penises.

[–]-Master-Builder- 5 points6 points7 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's almost like that isn't what people want out of a game.

[–]Fishsushi 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That sounds boring

[–]Toomay 4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Well, at least the sjws and feminist bought it /s

[–]Cazumarzu 6 points7 points8 points 7 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

Is this really the unrealistic aspect you're upset about? There's mountains of other stuff.

[+]ecish -11 points-10 points-9 points 7 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

It’s not really about realism to most people. They just don’t want women invading their video games.

They’ll argue realism, but strangely enough, none of the other gross inaccuracies are mentioned by them.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Gamers couldn't care less about girls picking up a controller. I imagine most gamers even want more girls online so they can flirt with them in a social setting they're comfortable with. Beyond that, there are plenty of female characters in games that regularly get the spotlight. Tomb Raider for instance, is a franchise that has lived decades without changing the equation.

Fact is, a bunch of irreverent asshole SJW in EA decided they were gonna give this game the woke treatment and threw it in gamers faces with the phrase "if you don't like it, don't buy it."

They promised a return to realism and instead delivered the revisionist version, badly. They haven't even finished the game and don't expect to have all the multiplayer features rolled out till March.

Truth is, this game was stupidly produced by a bunch of morons ran by a company of greedy bureaucrats with no way to connect with their customers, then released in the same window as every other big triple A title this year.

[–]NoGardE 6 points7 points8 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Inaccuracy in the service of gameplay has a long and prosperous history. You're balancing two important aspects of the game experience. Inaccuracy in the service of wokeness and marketing is not good. You're sacrificing the experience for social brownie points.

[–]ecish -5 points-4 points-3 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

How does it sacrifice the experience in the slightest? Because the character model that’s usually a guy is a girl instead?

People attacking it for that reason sound just as ridiculous as the SJWs that complain because it’s usually a guy on the cover. Both sides get so uppity and butthurt about any little thing

[–]NoGardE 4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It breaks the aesthetic, especially when it starts to get into the more colorful skins and cyborg bullshit.

[–]Fishsushi 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Gamers want what they want. You can't force them to buy some sjw feminist shit.

[–]ecish 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

If they just say they don’t want women in the game, that’s fine. I respect that more than saying it ruins the realism in the game, like they really care about that.

It’s the hoops they jump through to make it seem like it’s anything other than a woman on the cover that annoys me

[–]Fishsushi -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

So what? Shit games deserve being shit upon.

The funniest thing is the previous CEO that made this decision used his 14 year old daughter to defend himself.Keep in mind this is a war game, and he tried to target a person that is not in their demographic.

And further angered the fans by saying "You dont like it,dont buy it".He got fired afterwards because the sales tanked because no one liked him taunting them.

Standard game: Me setting up a spawn beacon and constantly dieing and then respawning in same place while the kids on my team are crying because they didn't get a turn in the tank/plane. Yep that's how it went down in ww2.

I think I speak for allot of bf5 players when I say we would rather play as a transvestite dwarf if it meant all the bugs in the game were fixed. Character gets stuck vaulting obstacles, My ammo and medic crates fall through the floor, tanks get jammed on breakable objects etc etc etc.

Edit, not to mention it's a choice and 99.9% of player characters are men anyway

[–]DigitalisEdible 4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

It’s a difference between authenticity and realism. Authenticity is ensuring the tone and theme of the subject is maintained. You can have an experience that’s consistent with the tone of a war but contains outlandish set pieces. Pushing the envelope too far breaks the immersion of the experience, otherwise why not have the Nazi’s riding around on velociraptors while the allies use their iron man suits to rain down missiles from the sky. After all, “shooting a plane out of the sky with a rocket isn’t realistic”. Why not just do whatever.

When you’re using a historical setting you have to be nuanced with the aspects that make it feel authentic. And I’m sorry, having women running around like Rambo absolutely breaks the authenticity of the game world. If you’re interested in WWII as a historian then this game definitely isn’t for you.

I think there’s also the frustration people feel to have this shit foisted on us constantly. This identity politics crap can do one, frankly. I say this as a non-insane liberal. It definitely rubs me up the wrong way. There’s literally no reason to put women in this game, its pandering to the extreme and for what? Women aren’t stupid, they understand history and context and that no, WWII wasn’t full of women on the front lines. It’s ok if some things don’t have women in or if some things don’t have men in. It’s ok to do this, especially if you’re basing your fiction on a historical event where we know for sure the gender distribution to a reasonable degree of accuracy.

[–]timeforknowledge 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

"there's literally no reason to put women in the game"

There is literally no reason to not give the option to play as a female character...

Women played no role in WW2 is bullshit, did women experience the horrors of ww2? yes of course they did, were they taken advantage of by both sides? Yes, in most cases violently. Women served, women did unspeakable things to ensure they and their children survived and women died.

Just because your backwards society didn't let women take part doesn't mean others stood by and let their countries fall to fascism.

[–]DigitalisEdible 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Strawman argument. Nobody ever said women didn’t take part and didn’t contribute so fuck off with that crap. It’s a game about soldiers fighting on the front line, very few women were there. This is a known fact and you would have to be a complete imbecile to believe otherwise. You have such a low opinion of women you have to create a fantasy scenario in which they weren’t there? Lovely. Check out the Peter Jackson film about WWI and tell me how many female soldiers you see. WWII was no different. Now I expect he’ll receive a barrage of hate from people who are unable to accept reality. This shit is more offensive to women than putting them in the fucking game. You must have a low opinion of women if you think you need to treat them like babies who can’t understand the real world. Condescending fuck.

[–]timeforknowledge 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's a game with no historical accuracy. A game.

No one in the game is killed outright, you can be blown up by a tank yet you stay in one piece and get a 10 second window where someone can run up to you and stab you a needle and you magically come back to life.

If you play as support you get infinite ammo. If you play as a medic you get infinite medic pacts.

So you're happy with all these magical abilities and more in the game but you not happy with the ability to play as a woman even though there is evidence of women taking part in front line action.

If you played the game then you wouldn't care.

It's a game with no historical accuracy, women in the game are bottom of the historical inaccuracies in this game.

[–]dogkindrepresent 3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Plenty of players want to immerse themselves in the experience that was a historical event. There are games out there where you can play as a transvestite dwarf if you want to. It's not a this or that thing. The cost of fixing bugs shouldn't be now you've go to be a pussy. This might be a shock but men don't like role playing as a jewish muslim black downs lesbian blind fat HIV infected trans paraplegic woman receiving chemo. Men like things such as cops and robbers, cowboys and indians.

At the crux of it though is significantly more that don't want feminism in games. Feminism is determined to intrude upon things that are essentially by men and for men. Usually when women partake no one makes too much of a fuss because those women are usually respectable and aware that this is a dude thing. Where for example people vent, it's pretty violent and also say things in chat like OMG expletives. Feminism is very different. It's not about joining the ranks of men, it's about regulating men turning even game environments into some kind of super strict classroom simulation where one must be orderly, supremely polite, submissive, etc.

EA already has things like a massive franchise for women and gay (effeminate) men, The Sims. Lets turn it around why can't I spawn into the Sims as a 1943 trooper and start shooting everyone up driving over houses with a tank?

If the inclusion of females in the game weren't political and specifically from the politics of misandry you probably wouldn't see such a reaction.

Games are designed to suspend disbelief to a point. This is just poor marketing to blatantly further gender politics and the market has proven its point. If the game was a success the market would would demonstrate a demand for fake WWII soldiers. There are plenty of opportunities to market fiction; this game’s core audience wasn’t one of them.

[–]SuperSulf -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

How many more times are you gonna reply to your own post? Just add it in the post, jeez. I guess you really wanted everyone to know whatever narrative you believe?

I work in game development. One of the reasons for the game's poor (physical) sales may have something to do with this, but it's likely not the main reason. These reduced numbers don't include digital sales, so you actually don't know how many copies were really sold. Investors like sales, but it's not a direct ratio. Stock price does not determine how well the company is selling. And there are other factors such as the actual gameplay, competition in the market, change or lack of change since the last iteration, luck, marketing, etc. One factor mentioned in this article is that EA changed the date of BF5 so it wouldn't line up with Red Dead Redemption, which sold over 17 million copies in a week. Other huge hits in the gaming world this year have drastically increased competition as well.

https://investorplace.com/2018/11/3-reasons-why-electronic-arts-stock-cratered-so-badly/

I really don't think EA gives a shit about gender politics. As we've seen many times before, they don't care that much about the consumer if it's going to hurt their bottom line. If they did something, it's because they thought it would improve sales. Luckily, they're also learning, which is why their DLC is free. Hopefully if they do try to make a historically accurate game, they'll do it right and not include people who weren't really there. However, I think it's a mistake to somehow think that including them is an insult to the men who were there. It's still a damn video game. Women are physically weaker than men but a melee attack from the women in Fortnite doesn't do less damage, and nobody is complaining about that. Maybe someone just wanted to be able to play as a female soldier? Just because they were rare didn't mean they were 100% non-existent.

tl;dr Yes, this is partly due to the historical inaccuracies of the game, but that's likely not the main reason, and to believe that it IS the main reason means you're not really trying to understand it, you just want a talking point. EA has faced other problems this year, has other games, and specifically had other issuess with BF5 like a delayed release, and EA's stock isn't 100% tied to one franchise.

[–]-manatease 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, EA have had some serious doozies to deal with over the previous year and gamers are turning against them. So to essentially say "screw you guys (90%+ of our customer base)" on this issue was incredibly naïve and an indicator of the bubble they live in and the lobbying they must see about their toxicity and brogrammer culture being responsible for women preferring not to program or spend their formative years in front of a screen blasting imaginary entities with imaginary weapons.

The long and short of it is that there doesn't have to be male and female characters in every single game. Nobody really gives a shit until eekwallytee is shoehorned in everywhere.

[–]JoelMahon 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

People, don't make this the hill we die on, there are babies getting mutilated, people having their hard earned money stolen, people being falsely imprisoned, etc.

Now, this isn't whataboutism, I'm not saying because there are worse things that we shouldn't care about less worse things, it's because shit like this turns away more people than any possible good it could do, even if this changed the gaming industry...which it won't...if we lost 100 supporters in the process it'd be a bad trade.

If it was a realistic game to begin with, or they marketed it as realistic I'd understand a little opposition, but afaik it isn't either, why is no one mad that female characters in skyrim do the same melee damage as men?

[–]M_Justice[S] 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

This isn’t about turning 100 people away. $10 billion in shareholder loss is significant. Bad corporatism infected by gender politics, or any other bad marketing is destructive at all levels.

[–]JoelMahon -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Significant how? The best possible outcome is that future games take heed, my point is that's not worth losing even 100 supporters, let alone the probably several thousand we have already probably lost arguing for "realism" in the poster child of r/gamephysics

[–]SuperSulf -2 points-1 points0 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Bad corporatism infected by gender politics, or any other bad marketing is destructive at all levels.

There are plenty of other games for people to buy. Having women in the game doesn't hurt the gameplay. It's a trend that's unlikely to stop either. Do you also care about the historically inaccuracies in Red Dead 2? Gender-related ones?

[–]SuperSulf 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

why is no one mad that female characters in skyrim do the same melee damage as men?

Because OP really wants to make sure everyone knows he hates gender politics.

This isn't a men's rights issue. This is just whining. If a supposedly historically accurate game didn't include men, that would be ridiculous. Not adding women to a video game.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I just want to be extremely happy to hear a news one day that Battlefield V costed EA a fortune. And they may never recover from that any sooner

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

But we need role models for little girls. /s

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Nope! Stalin literally put forth an edict that female snipers were not to go to the front line. It’s all right there in recorded history.

[–]Izaran 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I’m in agreement with Jeremy at The Quartering. The market crash is already here. The behavior of AAA publishers reached peak with this “woke” shit like BFV. It’s right there in EA’s disregard for its own investors. As soon as you start putting ideology before bottom line...goodbye.

[–]croidhubh 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

They disrespected and shat on the men who actually did the things they fictionalized. The mother-daughter team that took out a water depot without firing a shot? IRL it was a super elite squad who went in after another squad was completely killed...all men.

There was a woman who's husband was murdered by the Germans. She sold EVERYTHING AND BOUGHT A FUC*ING TANK(!!!!!!!!) for the Russians and demanded she be the pilot...and they let her!

If they want to focus on the "untold stories of WWII", there were better ways to do it. The disrespect for their political agenda is well documented and people haven't been letting them get away with it.

The lead developer didn't want to tell his daughter she couldn't play someone who's like her in the game and he didn't want to tell her "Because (she's) a girl"? That's EXACTLY WHY and you explain to her the fuc*ing HISTORY!!!!!!!

[–]jp_mra 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

[–]M_Justice[S] 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]throwaway46819 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I, and basically the rest of gamers, don't mind women in games. A lot of games I love feature women, and hell, I tend to play more or less half women, half men in games where I can customize the character, because why the fuck not.

What I don't like is when game companies try to go for "historical accuracy", where they introduce all kinds of races and people that were never in there, just for the sake of being politically correct. And of course, the usual "I'm a woman, I'm way better than stupid men" thing. Odd how they only want to fight some gender stereotypes.

The "If you're a white male crybaby, don't buy this" tweet was even worse. That proves that the developers are being actively sexist and racist, if it wasn't clear enough already.

Had this game been released 15 years ago, I don't think I would have really have minded this. It'd have been like Assassin's Creed Origins including white and asian people as part of the Egyptian culture. Would it have been weird and out of place? Sure, but it wouldn't necessarily have been offensive either. In this case though, because of all the SJW shit going on now, it's just a clearly anti-white, anti-male message, which the developers themselves have confirmed.

Fuck EA.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Britain sometimes ran out of men and female factory workers had to fight in rare cases. The woman in the campaign of BFV is a partisan fighter which explains her disability that’d usually get her discharged

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The only real historical inaccuracy is that there’s a mission where you blow up a heavy water plant days before the Telemark raid and you’re somehow supposed to believe the protagionist paved the way for the raid

[–]oneronaut 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

GOOD JOB GUYS! :D

They didn't listen to us because they were convinced by a minority of loud idiots they were making the right move.

Worked out perfectly as far as I'm concerned. I did work for EA in the 2000s, they were horrendous to deal with.

[–]M_Justice[S] 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yup. 500K plus in downvotes and $10 billion dollars of the pathetic market.

[–]FusionTap -2 points-1 points0 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The game is a lot of fun though so that’s good

[–]Krymix -2 points-1 points0 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Every time I see something about someone being upset that they put female soldiers in a game clearly not meant to be perfectly historically accurate I just have to ask : why? It doesn't hurt anyone, get over it. There are way bigger and real issues.
If you just hate women, fine. You be you. But to be upset that they put in the possibility to play a female character in a fictional game in order to open the game up to slightly more people is silly.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I don't think that is what people are really reacting to. I agree what is the big deal about historical accuracy? If they want to make females leads that isn't historically accurate that is fine, there are all kinds of fantasy with some realism and realism with some fantasy. I think what people hate is the constant blatant SJW pandering these companies make to get brownie points. That is part of the reason the youtube rewind video got so much hate. It was just the worst type of cringy attempt to pander that felt obtuse and out of place.

[–]M_Justice[S] 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I don’t think anyone is upset, except the shareholders who lost 10 billion and the countless employees that will be fired because EA’s SJWs want inclusivity and diversity to pervade everything. I think we’re all glad the market is weeding this out.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Isn’t this to be expected of a dinosaur corporation? All institutions seem to sway to the side of the establishment the larger they get.

[+]ecish -9 points-8 points-7 points 7 years ago (15 children) | Copy Link

I can’t believe it’s such a big deal for either side of the argument. It’s not like it’s a realistic game in the slightest. Using the setting of WWII doesn’t make it non-fiction

[–]M_Justice[S] 8 points9 points10 points 7 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

You’re missing the point. The game sucks.

[–]ecish 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Would you say that if it didn’t have a girl on the cover?

That seems to be the point of the article you posted

[–]M_Justice[S] 9 points10 points11 points 7 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

The cover doesn’t help. The game is a flop largely due to gender politics proven by the market response.

[–]TRexCantDab 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No. Its a flop due to really shitty gameplay bugs rights now. Not because there are female characters in the game.

[–]ecish 5 points6 points7 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I just find it funny that someone could have a game ruined for them because they put women into it, even if they aren’t traditionally in those types of games. It sounds so pathetic. And I’m the furthest thing from a SJW.

I can understand hating a game for shitty mechanics or a bad story, but because it has a girl in the game and on the cover? Jeez, people are so sensitive these days, on both sides

[–]functionalsociopathy 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

The girl on the cover is just a symbol of what is wrong. Would you prefer to have them point at the lesbian amputee soldier in the opening cutscene?

Also,

And I’m the furthest thing from a SJW.

-Every SJW ever

[–]ecish 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Because I don’t have a tantrum over a woman in a game I must be a SJW. I just don’t let little shit like this send me into a frenzy like a lot of people here.

Both sides are full of the most vocal crybabies whenever something offends their delicate sensibilities.

[–]functionalsociopathy 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I wasn't saying that you must be a SJW, I was saying the way you phrased your denial was the same phrasing SJWs use when they're confronted for their holier-than-thou rhetoric.

[–]fuckeveryone________3 points 7 years ago* [recovered] (6 children) | Copy Link

Great point! Since there's no mandate to make this WWII-inspired game remotely historical, EA should say "fuck it" and include tameable, rideable pet dragons in a future update.

[–]ecish 3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

It’s a game...If you want realism, watch a documentary.

People crying about this just sound pathetic. But whatever, I should have expected the downvotes here, just because I don’t get offended by a girl in a damn video game.

[–]fuckeveryone________4 points 7 years ago* [recovered] (3 children) | Copy Link

I'm not offended by anything. It's just my opinion that a game based on WWII should, you know, be based on WWII.

[–]ecish 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

So because it has women, that means the entire setting of WWII is invalid?

It seems like people are just upset because women were added, not really because it makes it less realistic. But whatever, I don’t really care. It just makes people sound ridiculous to me

[–]MrLuggage 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I don't really have a horse, or dragon, in this race, but I'd be equally annoyed with the inclusion of laser rifles as I am by bionic women in a game based on WWII. The Battlefield series has always had this semi-realistic feel to it, and to me that was part of the appeal. Also, the "we have to include frontline women in a WWII game because I have a daughter" and "you don't have to buy it" explanations from the developers rubs me in all the wrong ways.

[–]Kravego 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

There's a huge difference between offering female characters and putting in fucking dragons.

There is zero reason to be upset that a series of games that lets you eject from a helicopter in mid air, snipe the pilot out of a fighter jet, and then board the jet and take off in the pilots chair, allows female characters on the front lines of WWII.

The game is not realism. At best, it's semi-realism, and even that's not accurate.

Get the fuck over it and find another, more relevant reason to bitch about the game.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I fail to see how this is a men's rights issue, and not your attempt to get validation about a video game you dislike (for insane reasons).

Post this shit in r/battlefield, and leave r/mensrights for real issues.

[–]David_The_Atheist -2 points-1 points0 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
