Irrelevant, what is important is that men are still expected to step in if a woman MIGHT need help. E.g., on the subway, someone hits her, he's supposed to jump in and protect her. She drops things, he should help her pick them up. He should open the door, and if she feels inconvenienced or offended, it's his fault, but if he doesn't open the door for her, she might do the same, because he's a chauvinist Neanderthal with no manners. The whole thing is a big fake game, so she can win whenever she plays. Too many women have never had to deal with reality, for this very reason. Too much coddling the unfair "fairer sex."

last date I was on I said "lets meet for drinks". I picked up the first round and paid cash, and slowly sipped at my drink. She guzzled hers down expecting more free drinks, and then sat there for an hour talking waiting for me to buy her another round.

Its not so much about me being cheap, but if I am going to pay for company I can get a 60 minute massage from a nude woman and a handjob if I want to feel sleezy having to pay for company for the same price. There is a trend going on with single mothers that say if you want to go on a first date with them, that not only do you have to pay for their night out, (meal, drinks, movie/concert tickets,) but you also have to pay for the babysitting of their child.

So, I used to get a little wound up about this, but one time a girl broke down the time & money it took her to get ready for a date / look cute.

Hair, makeup, clothes, nails... it adds up pretty quickly & it's waaay more time-consuming than getting ready is for a guy.

Ever since then, I'm more than happy to pay. I like it when they look good, I like that they care enough to look their best for me.

The cafe is the perfect spot for a first date. Order your coffee at the counter one at a time, or if she expects you to pay then it’s likely only $5. Can stay for as long as you like if you hit it off, or leave after 15 minutes if you don’t.

Don’t be wasting your money on women you don’t know. If it’s beneath her to go to the cafe for a first date because she wants something fancy when you don’t even know her, that should tell you a lot about her. Fancy dates can come after when you’re building up a relationship.

Also the idea of men treating women out continuing long into the relationship, I wonder where this comes from. Did it come from the traditional role of the wife making dinner and treating her out is giving her a break from the role of cooking for the family? I do all of the cooking at home so my girlfriend started treating me out on all of our dates for that very reason, to give me a break from cooking for her. It’s a fair way to look at it instead of through gender roles if we want to pursue true equality. If one usually cooks then the other can treat, regardless of gender.

Male or female, no one is owed anything on a date. Men are expected to pay for dates because men keep doing it as the generally accepted gender norms. Male or female, if you ask someone to take time out of their schedule in order to try and build some kind of connection with them then why not pay as a token of gratitude for them agreeing? You then also get to set the terms of the date. If they aren't happy that you took them to an affordable place then they exclude themselves from future dates. If they don't seem interested or engage with you in a positive way then you no longer have to date them.
